The Updates are coming!

Its just about april and i cant wait for oddworld's site updates. I think something exciting and new may be revealed to us. I just set up this thread so people can respond to the sites updates!

Alcar 03-31-2004 09:49 PM

I hope they reveal more information. Lorne mentioned that he had some very interesting news concerning Oddworld, so, who knows.

The updates are coming! Proof that Oddworld Inhabitants are updating their website still: http://www.oddworld.com/oddworld/company/ow_press.html There are two new entries for March 30th. As well as what award Oddworld Inhabitants one at: http://www.oddworld.com/oddworld/company/ow_awards.html

In case no one has seen (as I didn't want to double post, so I edited it instead, meaning it won't put it as a new post for those that already saw the original), I have found an image of Oddworld Inhabitants' booth as GDC 2004: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showpo...2&postcount=52

exiting... :D You guys think there will be any news on the new quinto game or just on stranger?

Wil 04-01-2004 05:07 AM

The new Quintology game? As I understand it, that's a fair way off. Assuming OWI release Stranger in time for Christmas, it's then only possible that Munch's Exoddus (or whatever the next Quintology title turns out to be) will then enter production. Lorne is adamant that the Quintology requires suitable technology in order for it to be decently portrayed in games, so maybe we'll have to wait until the next generation of games consoles, although I sincerely hope it's much sooner than that.

EDIT: Having said that, the production design team usually starts working on one project while the afore one is still going through programming.

plz plz plz update the website i need more info, your killing me here :fuzzle:

Xavier 04-01-2004 06:20 AM

I don't think I will see any info before I return the 9 april
sad...

Esus 04-01-2004 06:35 AM

They probably wont update the site before the 9th. Remember, the February update hit the site on the 7th or so...

Nath 04-01-2004 07:07 AM

D. Caste Raider, pack Rat Palooka, Blistrz Booty, Filthy Hands Floyd, Meagly McGraw, Flint "Explosive" McGee, Mortimer Bang, and The Looten Duke.

I've never heard of these names before, but I got them off ign.com when they sent me an e-mail about oddworld info.

oddguy 04-01-2004 07:49 AM

Awesome pic of the GDC booth, Alcar. Can't wait for more.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Wrong so wrong!

Updated NOW AHAHAAHA

Ok, calm down nathan.

*takes deep breath*

Sorry but when I first noticed the update I bounced around on my chair for a few minutes making happy sounds. I had only checked it 10 minutes before but they must have uploaded it at 9am AEST (or 3pm SLO time).

That said there isn't really anything new. A few standard Alf questions (standard meaning someone who doesn't know anything about Oddworld asks something pointless and Alf makes something up to avoid giving an answer. He's a lovable rogue isn't he?) and an inhabitants interview. The closest thing to a scoop is that John Hood (the inhabitant profile) mentions D. Caste Raider but seeing that Nath just mentioned that name it isn't so amazing

Come on Oddworld Inhabitants! Give us some meat to chew on! But remember to provide some tofu for the vegetarians.

ps do we know which name goes for which character? I think someone mentioned seeing character cards at GDC

Fuzzles! 04-01-2004 12:38 PM

Oh my thank you for the update!!! I am just dying for info and of course the game!!!!!!!!

Oddsville 04-01-2004 01:45 PM

Well from what I've seen there isn't too much info on the next game but I still have yet to read the Inhabitants interview. Its nice however, to finally have at least some updates!

oddguy 04-01-2004 02:09 PM

Also, OW.com has the Polygon OW issue in PDF format for download.

Al the Vykker 04-02-2004 07:11 AM

Man Alf's question answers this month were great, I was laughing up a storm.

"Q: Will you be thinking about doing an abe trilogy just to top it off?

Alf: Well, I like to think more along the Alf trilogy lines, Alf's Oddysee, Alf's Exoddus, Alf's Wagon Trip. Then maybe the prequel series, The Alfster's Menace, Attack of the Scones, and of course, Episode Tea. Like you said, just to top it off."

Priceless, boy that brought a smile to my face.

Wil 04-02-2004 08:42 AM

I'm very surprised Dear Alf is updated... I repeatedly refreshed that page just minutes ago and was upset that it was still full of last month's questions. Damned cache. Even stranger, I completely deleted my cache and haven't visited the page since, until today. What trickery is this?

Good updates, and good to see a new Fan of the Month, and Atusi, congrats on your Fan Photo of the Month! Any spot the skin art section has also been greatly extended?

oddguy 04-02-2004 08:56 AM

I thought they just added the FOM's tattoos. I rarely go in there anyway.
Oh, and congrats Max on the recognized quote. :)

Wil 04-03-2004 10:46 PM

Ooh yes, thank you. I'm sure the skin art section was much smaller before, though, with one of the scroll menus found in the Universe section.

Hayley is reporting that Abe Babe turned the Polygon article into a PDF article. Coincidence, misunderstanding, or something I've stupidly overlooked?

quidproquo 04-05-2004 05:25 PM

what the hell!?

We wait a whole month, and what does oddworld give its loyal fans? NOTHING. Oddworld has taken the exact opposite of the course it took with Munch's Oddysee. Now instead a game being overly-hyped, we don't know anything about it (Stranger) at all. This is just as bad as oddworld's previous error in judgment. They could at least tell us a bit of this and a bit of that. Jeesh!

paramiteabe 04-05-2004 06:15 PM

No they shouldn't tell us anything because they want to surprise us with this new game. They did it with AO they are doing it again. Rest assured OW4 is going be amazeing. Lorne learned from what happened to Munch And he is not doing that again. And besides knowing how much OWI is keeping a lot secret. I am surprised we even have what we got.

Probably Alfs Assistant, now theres a scary thought.

Volsung 04-06-2004 10:45 AM

If not enough info is a mistake, at least it's a new mistake. Personally, I agree with PA on this. And if we hear just little bits of info, it makes it all the more fun to kick around and see what we could get.

Why do you always assume so goddamned much?!

"they want to surprise us"
"they shouldn't tell us anything"
"OW4 is going be amazeing"
"knowing how much OWI is keeping a lot secret"

Swhaa? You seriously do assume way to much and pass it off as fact...

Of course I dont expect to get everything. personally, i was hoping for slightly more than we did get - especially as much of the press have seen a lot more than us...

Fez 04-06-2004 10:50 AM

But amazinger then Halo 2, no not really, no.

Just no...

Shell Man 04-06-2004 11:33 AM

....

If Halo 2 is just more military grunts popping off aliens in sub-par desinged environments, Then Stranger will own it. :)

In all fairness, these aren't so much assumptions as conclusions based on what Lorne has said about the problems with Munch's Oddysee. If anyone remembers, MO was going to be twice the game it turned out to be. Oddworld threw information all over the place about stuff that would be in the game, including the elusive Sea-rex. Lorne felt that after unloading all this information only to have most of it shaved off the final product, fans were turned off considerably, not to mention the X-box conversion. They just don't want to get our expectations too lofty, to where the magnificence of the final product doesn't have the impact it should.

Alcar 04-06-2004 11:43 PM

I'm happy with the rate of information release as it is. Oddworld Inahabitants has let us known enough to keep our interest, while maintaining a strict code of mystery.

What we are currently receiving is grand :fuzzle:

Alcar...

Mac the Janitor 04-07-2004 05:27 AM

I agree with Alcar...they're actually giving us a good amount of info here. After all, we just recieved all those Outlaw cards...

Fuzzles! 04-07-2004 06:39 AM

Well I'm just trying to wait patiently for the game. Frankly, I feel that the less I know, the more amazing my first time through the game will be. So I'm happy with what we have.

Volsung 04-07-2004 06:43 AM

On the site with all those cards there's a release date projection of "fall" I know that nothing's official until OI says, but I was wondering how this matched up with previous theories.

Alcar 04-07-2004 01:19 PM

There was a picture of Oddworld Inhabitants with a note or poster saying "20 months" on the X-Factor program. Max the Mug concluded that since it was approximately dating from September of 2002, that 20 months onwards would be in the middle of 2004.

Alcar...

Wil 04-08-2004 09:02 AM

I'm perfectly happy with the rate at which new info is being released, now that I've got settled down to it, that is. I never expect OWI to update their site with any big news, and every month I am amused by those who are all like, "I can feel we're going to get something big this update." I'm not sure exactly what they're basing that idea off, except that OWI had promised to give us some decent info by this time. But, weirdly enough, I'd rather they concentrate on the game and their myriad of media appearances than work overly hard on the website.

I think I prefer the subtle hints in Dear Alf and the Daily Deception Online (though patronising content could of course always be toned down :p) to a sudden information burst. And as Mac said (Oh sheet, guess what I just typed out), we've seen the cards they handed out at GDC, and I'll be uploading a report on the opening sequence soon enough. E3 is just around the corner, and we actually have a member of the Forums going there this year. Therefore, I thusly and henceforth conclude that things can, indeed, only get, as they say, better.
