Share Your Miscellaneous and/or Failed Works.

(Mods... sticky?)

Anyway, this is a topic where you can post stand-alone projects too random to fit into any of your threads, failed projects, or works in progress. Don't feel confined to drawings either; it would be great to see a little randomness in the form of photography, 3-D art, poetry, prose, etc.

Please share your own triumphs and tragedies! :)

----------

This pic started off with a great idea and ended in disaster. The brush-head pen I was using started running dry halfway through the drawing, making the dark spaces look "splotchy" and generally... bad. I tried touching it up in Photoshop and ended up with jagged lines and messy blurs. Phht... it was only the 5.0 version. This was intended to be Chicago (a chain-smoking, fad-loving, "alternative" lifestyle-living bitch) looking all devious with some crap in the background. Her trench coat turned out shite. You get extra points if you can decipher the message on her armband.

"Children In Heat" lyrics copyright Glenn Danzig

EDIT: Damn you, Internet Explorer. Your poor image translation makes my drawing even worse!

oddguy 03-21-2004 06:18 PM

What're you complaining about? That looks great!
I do think us ourselves become our toughest critics. I'm really hard on myself when it comes to drawing.

Mac the Janitor 03-21-2004 06:47 PM

SeaRex, that is awesome. I think the smudgy thing just makes it even better.

Anyways, here's a scan of a thing I did for English for a poem I did about insanity. Ignore the crap poem in the middle.

http://oddworldforums.net/attachment...tid=1680&stc=1

Also ignore the fact that those are the Aquabats.

GrigtheSlig 03-21-2004 07:10 PM

I like the poem!

:

Insanity looks like an eerily lit Carnival with all sorts of un***givably groutesque creatures.
Insanity smells like the Burning, charred, rotting flesh of thousands of innocent souls.
Insanity sounds like vultures screeching in your ears.
Insanity tases like ******** blood.
Insanity feels like trying to breathe underwater.
Insanity is white, the color of nothingness.
Insanity lives on the M***** of others.
Insanity is that little voice inside your head theat tells you to do the unimaginable.
Insanity is life.

Fill in the blanks! I can't read the parts with *** in it.

oddguy 03-21-2004 07:21 PM

What part of 'ignore' did you not understand?!:p

VaniLLaKiLLah 03-21-2004 08:29 PM

I think, i'll like this thread.

@SeaRex: hey i think your artwork shouldn't be posted here... :fuzblink:

@Mac: nice poem.

.:VaniLLaKiLLah:.

.......................
Pic1: That's my brothers character "Rochet". (That name has style). When i coloured it, i thought it is good. But my bro said it looks like trash. I got pissed of and started hating this piccie.

Pic2:
Yameela. My character. I hate this one. i really hate it. Especially her lips, arms, legs, her clothes and her "pistol". I tried to make her look dangerous. Nice idea.

SeaRex 03-22-2004 05:08 AM

Mac, lovin' the bacground. Neat colors an' shtuff. The Aquabats do have a crazy air of craziness about them... and they're all staring at me. I can feel the grubby little eyes groping my mind... Mmm... brains. Delicious brains.

Vanillah, your brother is fru-fru stupid. The pic has the cuteness.

Keep stuff coming, peeps!

unimaginably; crimson; minds.

SeaRex 04-09-2004 01:33 PM

I did this little doodle while our class was watching the Rice Testimony. The whole thing got me thinking about what I would do if I were to be drafted... which is a very real issue if Bush gets reelected.

It's Ci-Ci in an army outfit. My scanner practically MAULED this sketch. Damn you, cheap scanner!

TheRaisin 04-14-2004 05:23 PM

Very cool, all of them. Mac, is that really what the Aquabats look like? I've never seen 'em live. I didn't really think they'd look like... that, but their songs are cool. And funny. Pizza Day and Midget Pirates-- so funny.
VanillaKillah, that's some sweet artwork. I especially like the one on the right, the pencil one. The fox (literally) on the left looks like she's in a weird position. And the clothing on both of them is... how shall I put it?... interesting, to say the least.
SeaRex, mighty fine drawing. The combination of uber-cute and ragged always makes for some pretty interesting and hilarious results. Looks good, despite your alleged cheap scanner (which I don't entirely believe, it doesn't look wrong in any way). I must ask you something, though... what the HELL is a Ci-Ci?

EDIT: Now I remember! Geez, that was way back when. Whatever happened to the comic you were going to do? And why is this drawing here? You should be posting it on your old art thread! C'mon, I needz more of those drawings! I printed off Patches and Cicada and the guy with one eye (I forget his name) plus that one with the whole group 'cause I loved 'em so much!
EDIT 2: Sorry, meant to ask: would it be okay with you if I printed this one off? I like it! It would be purely for my own enjoyment, of course.

Mac the Janitor 04-14-2004 08:19 PM

Yup, that's what they really look like.

They're superheroes, you know.

I have one of the masks they wear, and also the power belt. I'm working on getting an anti-negativity helmet.

BEST LIVE BAND EVER.

actually...

BEST BAND EVER.

ClaireBear 04-15-2004 01:12 AM

Who be the "Aquabats"?

British or American?

Again... crap! I know!

Mac the Janitor 04-15-2004 05:11 AM

Americans.

From Orange County, California.

Fairly small though.

Hardly anyone knows who they are.

SeaRex 04-15-2004 11:11 AM

*proudly raises hand* Oooh! Oooh! Me loves the Aquabats! Can't beat 'em. Completely original stuff... gotta love "Chemical Bomb."

TheRaisin, the comic thing is still happening. I'm working on a 7-page strip right now between character sketches and such. It's sucking. Hard. I probably won't be done for a while.

I'm fine with you printing off my stuff, btw.

Adder 04-15-2004 01:11 PM

I'm planing to expand on this.
Basicaly we asked the question: "What if our english teacher was cruel?"
We came up with this:

(The day before)
MR H: Anyone late for the bus won't be going on the trip

(T minus one minute)
MR H: "Okay, the bus is leaving in... 45 SECONDS, class!
A-HA-HA-HA"
*drops smoke bomb and disappears*

Student1: "Oh no... WHERE'S THE BUS?!"
Student2: "If we listen we should hear the engine start"
*silence*
*distant revving*

Student1: "IT'S OVER THERE! RUN!"

TheRaisin 04-15-2004 01:36 PM

Heh heh heh. Sounds just like my teachers.
SeaRex, I seriously doubt you could make it suck even if you wanted to. Your art is shibby. I'm using that word too much... What I mean to say is, your art is DYNO-MITE!!! Yeah. Haven't used that one in a while. Ah yes, and thank you much for letting me print that drawing. Too bad my printer is broken. Curse you, cru-el irony!

I officially love you now.

I am seriously obsessed with the Aquabats. Ask me anything about them, I'll answer it. Ask me to recite the lyrics to any of their songs, I'll do it.

And I'll do it with a smile, dammit.

TheRaisin 04-15-2004 03:04 PM

Recite the ending monologue on Pizza Day, the first verse of Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates, and tell me what the Midget Pirates were planning to pillage and the names of the band members.

........What the **** are you on?

Mac the Janitor 04-15-2004 07:37 PM

:

1)Recite the ending monologue on Pizza Day, 2)the first verse of Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates, and 3)tell me what the Midget Pirates were planning to pillage and the 4)names of the band members.

1) "Best day of the week! Says Michael Jackson of Encino (sp?), California. When he's not at his little theme park, he's eatin' pizza with the kids! Oh boy, Moonwalker's back...have a slice buddy! Take off your glove first...you'll enjoy it more. Whoa! Emphatigro! Wow."

2)Young Jim as a lad, he looked for adventure
Calamity, danger, whatever was free
So when he turned 10, he packed his belongings
and he left home to find his destiny

Jim just a boy, whose head full of legends
of dungeons and dragons and pirates and stuff
so, that summer he snuck on a scooner
to harpoon tuna and get real buff

(I think that's the 2nd verse too, but oh well:p)

3) The pillagers.

4) Current Lineup: The MC Bat Commander, Crash Mclarson, Prince Adam, Chainsaw, Ricky Fitness, Jaime the Robot
Past Members: Baron Von Tito (now the drummer for Blink182), Nacho, Wolfman Nick, Catboy, Dr. Rock, Ben the Brain, Mysterious Kyu

And that's just from memory:p

TheRaisin 04-16-2004 05:47 PM

One point I'd like to... point out. The one thing you got wrong was that the Midget Pirates were going to the Sandwich Isles, to pillage the giant Ham Farm. But I'll give you that one. And extra points for awesomeness, and for knowing so damn much about the band. Yes, that is how Encino is spelled.

"Well I remember my first day of junior high,
I had hairspray in my hair and my pants were way too tight.
And all the breakers and new-wavers and the rockers and the preps
would all be in their places on the front lawn or the steps.
I hung out with some punker kids who used to make me laugh,
got thrown in the dumpster by some rich kids near the caff.
Now as time went on, we had figured out it was totally uncool
to eat the welfare lunch provided by the school.
So in poseur punker fashion we just mooched off all the kids,
and lived by eating candy bars and bags of nacho chips."

Ahh, I misunderstood the question. I thought you were referring to the main chorus, which states they were "pillaging the pillagers". My bad.

Man, looks like we officially killed this thread.

TheRaisin 04-17-2004 12:42 PM

Hm, I guess we did. Sorry Rex, sorry folks. Please continue.

Okay, I'm done now.

I did it with a waterproof black pen.
actually my dad wanted to sell my computer, but i wanted to keep it, so i painted it.

Santa isn't grabbing his bum. He's just holding his hands on it somehow.
It's a biro my mom gave me.
I think I'll post a closer photo of it.

.:VaniLLaKiLLah:.

Majic 04-24-2004 11:41 PM

Vanilla, kick ass computer.

Mac, I wish I had your graphics talent:p

EDIT: I somehow managed to miss capitalizing both eyes. Eh... my focus is pretty shot at 4 am. I think I should be off to bed soon.

TheRaisin 04-28-2004 02:50 PM

Bohemian Rhapsody! That song rocks! Oh yeah, good work, Mac and Killah. BTW Killah, wherever did you get that avatar? Did j00 dr4wz it j00rself w1t j00r m4d L33T sk33lz?!?!?! Didja? Didja, huh? It be coo.

VaniLLaKiLLah 04-28-2004 08:20 PM

i got that picture from a wallpaper, drawn by matt page.
That's not my art.

.:VaniLLaKiLLah:.

TheRaisin 04-29-2004 04:27 PM

Aw, too bad. Who is this Matt Page of whom you speak? And how did he learn to draw like that? I love it when Americans draw really good anime/manga style art. We may not have very many good native art forms, but we can always replicate those of other countries! Hee hee hee.

VaniLLaKiLLah 04-29-2004 08:13 PM

here is a link to his gallery...

TheRaisin 05-02-2004 10:28 AM

Cheese and crackers, dude! That image on the site is much bigger and easier to see. Now that I have seen what the deal really is with that picture, I'm just a little bit surprised. There's already enough nudity in real Japanese manga and anime. Do the Americans have to do it too? I mean don't get me wrong, it's good artwork, but I think there is a serious surplus of full or partial or implied nudity in manga and anime, even things meant for young teens. I mean, okay, kids are probably going to see the stuff anyway, but still. It is just plain weird. Do they have less of a sense of modesty in Japan or something? And is that rubbing off on Americans, or were Americans already perverts?
Actually, this artwork probably wasn't meant for kids at all. But the nudity is still there. And it's always really, really young girls. I mean, I opened up the first .hack manga and there's a big two-page drawing of two girls in a pool. Of course, through expertly placed objects and the right "camera angles", so to speak, you don't actually see, well, anything... you kind of see the general shape, y'see.
And I thought, "That is REALLY messed up considering this is a kids' manga." But it didn't stop there. Reading on, I found out that the characters were MY AGE. Fourteen years old. There is absolutely no way of justifying that, even if it's just a cartoon. And throughout the whole book, it was scant clothing and underwear showing and extremely low shirts and high skirts and, when a character was actually naked, even partially, there would be an object in the way or they would be seen from an angle so you're seeing a lot but I guess it still isn't enough for them to call it actual nudity.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! Are people capable of good anime and manga without a substantial number of NUDE SHOTS of YOUNG GIRLS?! Yes, I know for a fact that some people actually are, but IT'S TOO FEW! I want to read good manga, but I don't want to have to hide it and not read it at school. Yargh! Damn!

That being said, I think it's some very good artwork. I enjoy anime and manga-style art.

Fez 05-03-2004 03:02 AM

I drew a really good picture of a sniper during a fictional war in 2010. I'll put it up now...ish.

Fez 05-03-2004 07:27 AM

And here it is:

Rex Tirano 05-03-2004 09:57 AM

That's a great piccy fez, I'm not sure the word for it but it actually looks like it's moving. Have you got any more? (If so post them up quickly. It's fantabbytastic!)

Fez 05-03-2004 09:59 AM

I'm drawing an anime one of me, Hobo and Henna tonight.

Fez 05-04-2004 09:45 AM

Sorry, thats not anime, but its baaaaaad. Muse looks to manly, i'll have to change it.

TheRaisin 05-04-2004 03:54 PM

"That's not anime, but it's bad"? Was that an insult to anime?

Ferill, your avatar animation... there's no single adjective to describe it. It's very... THAT. I dunno what it is, but it is very much it. Sheesh. Smilie porn. Good golly!

No one has expressed their moral indignation about the huge amount of nudity in anime and manga. Does no one else care?!... ah, on second thought, mebbe no one should answer that.
