OW4 + Xbox LIVE: Is it gonna be good to play together?

I was watching TV and saw a commercial for Xbox Live, and I wondered: Is Oddworld 4 gonna be interactive?

It would be cool to see the Oddworld guys expand into the Multiplayer idea, but I'm not sure if they're really still holding out on that for the Hand of Odd or not.

Anyways, now that the post is complete, feel free to discuss.

Well, before X-Factor, I never thought I'd see OWI do a first person shooter, so anything is possible. It would be fun to have a multi-player OW shoot 'em up. I can see it now. You could be Steef, Grub Hunter, Orc Guy or Buck-Toothed Man etc....
That would be fun on zee Xbox Live methinks!:D Although, I'm sure others here would find the idea repulsive.

I think a Game on Xbox Live would be great! even if I wonder how they will do that...
cooperative would be great!

but we have to know more about the game itself I think, we didn't saw any ScreenShots yet

Esus 12-05-2003 12:19 PM

hmm.. I doubt it but we can't rule anything out yet.

paramiteabe 12-05-2003 05:29 PM

Hmm maybe for Hand of Odd but not the main games like the quintology. Because that means a lot of people whome don't have the right internet connection or Broad Band wouldn't be able to play the game. Thats the only downside on this. A lot of people would loose out on the oppertunity to play it. Only people who have Broad band. And that is expensive! I just don't think its worth it in that aspect. I dislike X-Box live because a lot of people miss out on really cool games they wanted to see so badly but now can't because they don't have the right internet connection. I am one of these poor people. I have a dial up connection which means I can never play it. Which sucks for people like me. What they should have the option of playing it regularly and on X-Box live. That way everyone can enjoy it not just a selected few.

Esus 12-05-2003 06:17 PM

If it is on Xbox live, it will still be single player, multi-player will just be an extra, so you won't miss out of anything special, though rts's such as Hand of Odd are only really good online... it al depends on what market they're targeting.

Al the Vykker 12-05-2003 06:58 PM

I hope they wait and make Hand of Odd, and some other RTS/RPG forms of Multiplayer for Oddworld. Like have the Qunitology games, bonus games, Stranger series, and then have multiplayer in a different group and category.

The games that say 'Xbox Live' means it has the option to play online with friends......It doesn't mean you have to have broadband to play the game. You just need broadband if you want to do online multiplayer. That would really be a bad marketing strategy on microsofts part if Xbox Live enabled games were only availible to those that had Xbox Live.

didnt some one say that Hand of Odd wll be on PC format aswell?

Alcar 12-06-2003 07:13 AM

That was a hopeful addition. Hand Of Odd was always a game in the works, and hasn't been spoken about by OWI to the public since it was announced.

we absolutly don't know...
we didn't had any news since a couple of years. :fuzwink:

Al the Vykker 12-07-2003 12:12 PM

Well, maybe we will get some information on Hand of Odd or some other games, besides just Stranger, etc. It could be mentioned to be in the works again with this big announcement OWI is making in 04.

We also hope to have some really exciting news to release in 2004 about Oddworld in general
don't put your hopes to high, they "hope" but it isn't fixed yet! :fuzwink:

Sekto Springs 12-07-2003 03:17 PM

im not getting my hopes up too high, but i do hope OW4 info--no matter how small the amount--will be released soon.

Fez 12-07-2003 03:46 PM

that would rock! they should make it something like phantasy star on-line.

'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic' is on Xbox live. Anybody got it? If so, is it good?

[I meant on Xbox Live. Since i already have it and it does kick boxing-simians anus']

Unfortunately, the live is only for downloadble content this winter.

Its only single player. But that is well worth it. Its one of the best RPGs on Xbox right now, along with Morrowind, etc. But honestly, some others here agree, the game is really really good. So I still recommend buying it for either PC (Just came out) or Xbox.

Alcar 12-09-2003 10:36 AM

As already mentioned, I believe Hand of Odd would be the only game that could suit Xbox Live - so far. Oddworld might churn out another game with the right potential for Xbox Live.

But Hand of Odd is deffinately the only one that we know of so far that could be Xbox Live worthy.

I have to agree with alcar...
Hand of Odd is the only project we know about which would realy fit on Xbox Live!

oddguy 12-09-2003 08:53 PM

I'd be really patient if OWI annouced that Hand of Odd was in production. I'd want them to take their time and pay great detail to it, which I'm sure they would.

But others aren't patient, so I would guess that they would keep it a secret for quite a while.

Well, I would if I knew the public :p

Al the Vykker 12-10-2003 12:09 AM

I also remember OWI saying that for Hand of Odd, you would be able to download new content to keep the game fresh. New areas, new npcs, new units, etc. So the game would always have some new aspect for you to go off and see, or explore.

I think later in the Quintology, they could do a coop feature like the ROTK game for online. Where five friends could play together and each take one of the main heroes, etc.

oddguy 12-10-2003 12:41 AM

Kinda like The Sims, but better. I like it!:D I also remember reading something on Xbox at launch saying that the games could be updated and added to using the harddisk or something. Anyone remember that?

-oddguy:fuzcool:

Yeah I think I read that a long time ago too. They may have just been getting ahead of themselves, (X Studios) meaning they might have meant certain games could be updated through Xbox Live for additional content, etc.

Xavier 12-10-2003 12:23 PM

sounds great... I just hope the updates wont cost too much, because I'm sure I'll buy them all :fuzwink:

Al the Vykker 12-11-2003 07:41 PM

I doubt Oddworld will make us pay for new content. I have yet to see any companies charging for the additional content through live.

Xavier 12-12-2003 07:20 AM

well, I believe you had to pay to get the last updates for MechAssault:

Well like I said there are certain instances that players will pay, Mech Assault is one of them. But I doubt with Oddworld knowing some people wont be able to afford buying updates small or large through live, etc., That they would charge their fans for additional content. I would be a bit suprised if that happened though.

Dipstikk 12-13-2003 12:27 AM

I made one doozy of a thread, huh?

Finally! It's about f***ing time!:D

Alcar 12-13-2003 03:02 AM

I love the idea that you could download "patches". Though, if it was an online game, I'd say they'd mass update the server (where the game information) is stored. Like Final Fantasy XI which is online.

Any updates are made server wide. Thus, the only thing you need to actually pay for is Xbox Live, the game, and the yearly / monthly pay updates for Xbox Live.

*can't wait*

I must say the yearly fee for Xbox live is very cheap. Compared to how other online games charge like fifteen dollars a month, etc. Xbox live is just fifty bucks for a whole year of service. I havent played it a lot recently, because I need some new live games. But I will definately play when Halo 2 comes out also, and when I start getting a few games at Chrismas time.

Xavier 12-13-2003 01:43 PM

Exactly te same with me... even if I played a bit Unreal ChampionShip lately, I realy need new Live games... I realy NEED Halo2!
