the idea of an greeter in 3dworld
i think i now why there isnt a greeter in the MO
look the greeter has a line as a motion detector, but if there is a line in a 3d world you can easly avade the line, but i have an "good" idea, look the line can be rplaced for an streched out line like this lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll only sticked to eachother, while its circling aruond the greeter. like the idea:fuzsmile: ??? |
Yep, Greeters would be easy to evade in MO if they were simple conversions of those in AE. And idea already mentioned goes that the infra-red screen could encircle the Greeter as it wheels about. In 3D, of course, we'd be able to see the adverts on the motion detectors.
3D also means many other obstacles such as holes in the ground, meat saws, bone drills and the like are redundant, as the player can just have Abe or Munch walk around them. |
actually thats a kind of a good idea, you know sloghut28.. there bombs fall down but instead of bombs they could have drills coming downward fastly. and the holes on any open field they could have holes coverd with grass or somthin and if ya step on iit yould fall down into the dephts of oddworld. hey thats a site name:D :D :D
A Greeter would only really work in the 3D world if he were placed in a narrow passageway, over a bridge or in a cave type area. This way there would be not much room to move and you couldn't easily evade the sensor.
Abe Babe... |
Actually...check the Oddlympics site later this year to play as a Greeter...in 3d...isometric...yeah.
you mean 2d that looks like 3d?
Yes.
dont put an 1 word post read the rules.
Well, sorry, I was only answering your question...I had nothing to add...
Never mind <<<<<<<<< two words:D :D :D
one word is forbidden if you say something like "cool" or "great", but Mac was helping you and was answering your question...
oke sorry my bad

In 3D games there can be instanses when you have to avoid being crushed by something in a room or dodge falling objects. This could work in OW with drillerz. There could lined up from one side of the wall to the next. And there could be several lines of saws and each line could have drills going off at different times, so you'd have to time when you would go and which path to take. Kind of like a maze of death. Of course there would be spots to rest and get some heath up.
i imagined greeters, if they were in 3D, would have something like a red light shining on the ground, making a circle of red light on the ground you'd have to dodge, dort of like those motion lights in "the devious, thevious, racoonus" or whatever.
I imagine a large room full of greeters and all with their own paterns. It be like you haveing to get across to the other side and figuring out where to go which way and when, to avoid being killed.
Actually very good ideas Oddguy and Sligslinger. That would make sense perfectly in a way to use Greeters in 3D. I hadn't even thought of that before. The light patterns could be random, and you'd have to dodge them. The patterns could also overlap which would make it more difficult to dodge them.
Abe Babe... |
Or you can have the motion detector light, circle the greeter.
For instance you have a mine field with a bunch of Greeters moveing inbetween mines. Like these are smart Greeters. And there are Muds among the mines. One wrong step BOOM! The greeters go nuts and try to zap you and at the same time set off a huge chain reaction of explosions killing everything. That would add a rather unique stealth like gameplay in 3D. |
Sounds very oddworldish PA! Sligs are allways runnin' into bombs!:D In Feeco Depot, you can fool a greeter to run into those wall zaps! Mighty fun!
I imagin a red circle arond the greeter that keeps moving, like it gets closer and then farther away from it, that's how I think they'd do it.
I think greeters would have more sporadic role in future Oddworld games if the greeter is ever brought back. They wouldn't follow a set path, but be more random as they trverse a map. Of course, narrow hallways and corridors in factories would be more ideal. I also like the idea of greeters who detect ground vibration like from footsteps.
Also Imagine greeters who can detect where there are mines and act as "suicide greeters" and rush towards these mines when they detect motion near them. This is an idea I've had ever since I first saw a greeter, but it'd be hard to put to work. Also greeters disguised as vendos.....which offer a BIG SURPRISE for Abe or Munch. How can you tell if the vendo is really a greeter? hmmmmm.....fart bombs? heheh. |

wat do you mean:fuzconf:
simply a large red cicle around the Greeter that is bigger and bigger, then smaller and smaller, then bigger and bigger, ....
Greeters in 3D should have two or more motion detectors, which should look like horizontal lines. These are just like in 2D, but they are circling around the Greeter, like the real motion detectors.
ow think i gt it
Would these circular motion detectors (like a pulse from a sonar) still display the advertisements in 3D, and if so would they be scrolling around the greeter in a clockwise fashion? That would look great in 3D :fuzwink:
......You mean have the sensors be advertisements instead of plain ol' red? That would be hillarious......with greeters always trying to make that sale!:D
-oddguy:fuzcool: |
you mean text in the sensor cool:fuzcool: :D
I also did some crazy thinking that if Munch got too close to the advertisements, they would "lure" him in without the player being able to pull him back out. Like hypnotisation.

How about a Greeter Radar? Just like Munch's Sonar??? It'll just expand and expand, but eventually lose its effectiveness (sp?)...
That way, they could follow you, even when you are above them. How's that for a challenge? |

I do hope OW brings greeters back. -oddguy:fuzcool: |
i surely hope they do , the greeters broought the exitment in the game at least thats what i think
Personally I liked blowing them into oblivian with a possessed slig in AE
Yes, yes, the good old days... I like to touch their motion detectors from a platform above, then pull Abe back. Then the Greeter thinks I'm still there and starts going... until it bumps into a wall. :D

I always saw the greeters as an enemy that would do great to be expanded upon. I like all the ideas we're hearing here, and I sure hope if OWI brings em' back, they'll be able to give us some new surprises! -oddguy:fuzcool: |
