Actually, atheist is better suited for Mac.

Since agnostic is questions about believing in your faith, athiest is actually denying there is an existence of God. To be an agnostic, you have to believe in a religion, but not totally sure about it.

Abe16 08-03-2003 06:39 AM

I am a Catholic. I truely believe in my faith I was born in the Catholic church and baptised as a Catholic. Catholisism is rather interesting you have the really old cathedrals and churches with amazeing art in the stain glass windows and on the walls and cielings. The Sisteen chapel in Rome is a perfect example of such beauty in art depicting God and heven and hell and earth. You drink wine and you recive holy communion and mass is only an hour long.

I think just for once I am going to visit the Vatican in Rome and just see it for myself. I love going into real old cathedrals just to look around at all the unique arcetecture and art. I did visit and toured a rather amazeing church one time. It was actually a church inside of a church. It was a Masque on the outside and in the center was a huge cathedral. That was amazeing it reminded me of Highlander.

The Masque part of this reminded me of that underground city of the dwarfs in Lord of the Rings. You know those catacombs with the pillers. Well it was just like that It had vast pillers and the whole place was real dark and shadowy and rather cold inside. In the center was the cathedral and when you got to the center everything just went in upward fashion. It was cool.

Xavier 08-03-2003 01:11 PM

Church of Satan...
anyway that's the closest

edit: it isn't a religion, it's a philosophy

Na na na, athiest is when you do not believe in God, agnostic is when you don't believe it can be proved whether or not God exists and so you reserve all judgement (ie stay out of religion).

*votes agnostic*

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 08-03-2003 01:26 PM

I'm christian.

Wait, I thought atheism was not a religion, just a belief?

here's the dictionary's definition of agnostic:

a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

Also, some one said something about what about catholic, protestant, and baptist? They kinda follow the same category as christianity, and then they kinda don't. So I guess it's best to put them in the other choice...

SeaRex 08-03-2003 02:18 PM

Look all of you complainy people, I posted alternative beliefs as well as religions for more variety.

Let me clarify me beliefs while I'm at it. I was baptised and raised catholic until I was about 9 years old. I don't think anyone in my family actually believed in the faith, we were just going because it was "socially required" for us to do so. Eventually we stopped going to church all together, and I really didn't mind. Then there was a long lull where I was agnostic... but I've recently taken interest in faith again.

I claim no christian denomination; I'm non-practicing (I don't go to church). This is my choice not to do so, as I've never liked the idea of church. I believe preachers and priests are just an easy way out. Some people tend to take their word as infallible, which it isn't... they're only expressing opinions on what the think about the Bible. I study on my own and form my own opinions. (I wonder if there's a big, fancy word for that.)

Al the Vykker 08-03-2003 02:29 PM

Im a roman catholic (another branch off of Christian, and catholic).

I usually go to church every other week, but lately its only been every month. Yes, I am dedicated to my faith, and believe in god and Jesus, etc. But I also am not as strict as some in my religion, I have several interpretations on different beliefs and subjects in my religion. Plus I also am open minded on other people's beliefs, and also respect what they believe too.

Ah yes. Thank you for clearing that up for me, Max. I'd definitely be right under agnostic.

They're all denominations of the same religion, just as Sai Baba, Hare Krishna and Swami Narayan are all denominations of Hinduism.

Jacob 08-03-2003 04:30 PM

I'm Catholic...being Baptised and everything. But i do Witchcraft...although i am not in the religion. But i also am Agnostic...

OANST 08-03-2003 04:58 PM

Actually you don't have to believe in anything to be agnostic. An agnostic admits the possibility of a religion being true but is skeptical about it. That would clearly fall under not being religious.

Mac the Janitor 08-03-2003 05:17 PM

Isn't that basically what Max said...?

OANST 08-03-2003 05:21 PM

My bad. I was replying to Joshy. Next time I'll read all the replys before doing so myself.

Xavier 08-03-2003 05:22 PM

who is the other one who choosed the Church of Satan?
I'm simply a bit curious

That's true, they all believe in Jesus Christ and such. What I'm saying was they are somewhat not the same thing. They branch off of Christianity and there can still be some differences. I go to a non-denominational church (there is a such thing).

Catholics baptize children. Christians don't, we baptize people who are old enough to understand who Christ is. Catholics have statues and worship the Virgin Mary. We don't worship the Virgin Mary. Catholics have a purgatory and confess their sins to the pope. Christians confess their sins through prayer. Some denominatins do lenting. (which is 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday until Easter as a season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter).

You see what I'm saying? Not trying to start any arguments or anything.

Wil 08-03-2003 06:05 PM

Yeah, I know how the denominations' traditions, beliefs and values differ from one another. I've never heard of a non-denominational church, though. Do you know how it came about?

I'm not sure. I just know I go to one. I can find out for ya.

OANST 08-04-2003 01:20 AM

nondenominational is kind of a hodgepodge of different christian beliefs. They are the least judging kind.

Yeah, we are not restricted to or associated with a religious denomination.

Woot. I'm non-denominational! Let's here it for me!

Codek 08-04-2003 08:47 PM

Someone ought to make a religion and call it the "being nice to people" religion...

TheKhanzumer 08-04-2003 09:02 PM

I am a non-denominational Christian. I think most of you would call me Fundamentalist.

And non-demonitional is not a "hodgepodge". In fact, it is the original church that all the others are based off of. And often it is very judgemental, which is sadly evident in myself.

How many of you agree with me when I say there can only be one true religion or belief (evolution and all that is a belief too)? It doens't make sense that everyone is right. I grew up in the Church and have studied the Bible alot. Since the US is such a diverse place, I know about other beliefs. I don't know everything, but what I do know tells me that Christianity is the truth. But that doesn't mean I agree with all "christian" views. I try to be openminded, but the Church of Christ I have been raised in just makes so much more since than any other belief I have studied that I sometimes don't really listen to other peoples opinions. This means I am a very stubborn person, but I hope that if someone can prove to me I am wrong that they will take the time and consideration to do so. But that won't happen, I'm sure of it. But then again there is always room to grow.

A note to non-Christians. Please don't judge the religion by its members, including me. Find out for yourself whether or not it makes as much sense to you as it does me.

To evolutionists. Having studied evolution intensely at school and at church I can tell you this. There is no scientific PROOF that it ever happened. Only theory and interpretation of the facts. Don't just believe what scienctists tell you because there is a lot more information that they leave out. Study it for yourself, from a creationist stand point. You may or may not change your view, but at least you will understand both views.

Codek 08-04-2003 09:09 PM

I beleive in the theory that the reason all animals are shaped how they are is because it is the most energy efficient shape for what we do most often. For instance, if we spent more and more time in water of the next hundred thousand years, we would most probably adapt to it by developing a bodyshape that would allow us to do things more efficently.

But who controls this? What is to say that a higher being isn't in charge of mother nature?

I certainly beleive so.

OANST 08-04-2003 11:59 PM

All the nondenomitional people that I have met have been much less condemning then most. Maybe you are an exception. Maybe that is your problem. As for being a hodgepodge if every other religion is derived from yours then that would mean that it has elements of them all correct?

oddling 08-05-2003 02:05 AM

I see I'm the only wiccan here. GO AHEAD! BURN ME AT THE STAKE! YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE!!:fuzvamp:

Oddling l:c l

Codek 08-05-2003 02:16 AM

I've always found wiccans a bit immature about their beleifs. Bad experience probably, but I think it is a little far fetched.

OANST 08-05-2003 02:53 AM

Wicca is extremely far fetched. Its a cool religion. I mean I'd like to do magic. wouldn't you? Its a religion for people who want to be their own god.

Codek 08-05-2003 03:12 AM

Its a childish religion that makes people look stupid and sends mad people insane.

And it depends on what you call cool. Personally, I think that driving down sunset blvd in a Lamborghini Countache and teasing the cops with your far superior vehicle is cool. PERSONALLY I think playing a real life mock up splinter cell stealth game in an abandoned building with guns, nightvision and lots of smoke grenades is cool.

I don't think pretending you have magical powers is cool, I think it is childish.

Just my opinion, whatever turns you on, its your parogative, agree to differ, and other such lame statements that appear in the bestseller "how to be a teacher at a special school".
