Oddworld Oddysee Online (OOO!)
Wouldn't it be kewl if there was a multiplayer co-op online-gaming for Oddworld?
Multiplaying campaign can be played through Mudokons/Gabbits/fuzzles and wildlife against the industrialists... kinda like warcraft. It could entail bits of RPG within interactive gaming, use Oddworld map and literally produce a virtual world where our characters live in? What do you all reckon, what do you think? |
Yes, Oddworld had originally planned to release a game called hand of odd that would take place before AO. And it would be similar to other RTS online multiplayers, but a lot more like a real world simulation. Plus your idea about being the industrialists or the natives is exactly what was planned.
As of current date there has been no updates on the progress or any new information on Hand of Odd. |
But that dosen't neccisarily mean that they won't make it, right?
I hope not! I LOVE RPGs! Once my cousin got me hooked on Warcraft 3, well...I was hooked. (I'm saving up for Warcraft 3) |
Yea OWI is not currently in production of Hand of Odd but I am sure they will later. Right now they are working on Steef and the quintology and not to mention ME.
But that would be cool!:D |
Does Quarma effect you in hand of odd? Let's say your an industrial and you do all sorts of bad things, will quarma effect you later in the game? I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but Oddworld is big on Quarma, so it'd be impossible not to have it in, right?
Dunno, but I think it should! I'm glad OWI have been thinking of doing it at least.... can't wait until it's in action though.
Having an online playing game, such as "hand of odd", would increase Oddworld's popularity.
The quarma effect in Hand of Odd would be much different. Its an overall quarma, and what you do or what side you choose changes the whole world and characters and creatures around you.
Example, your a glukkon CEO, youve just finished the factory youve built but there is a large forest nearby, you have the workers use chainsaws, and gain the supplies and you can make things out of the raw wood, toothpicks, etc. Thus gaining more moolah. The treehuggers could then if they somehow got into that area either sabotage the factory, and then chant to regrow the trees. Or they could keep regrowing the trees and the industrialists could continue to gain money. I personally hope they still release hand of odd, it has much of the whole real life simulation with RPG elements. Similar to what munch was intended to include. |
Munch was intended like that just like Sim City. Total simulation.

There's a little bit of info on Hand of Odd on Abe Babe's webbie http://www.oddworld.au.com under games - Hand of Odd

An Oddworld game in the style of Warcraft or whatever would definatelly be great but if it was online it wouldn't mean much to me. My parents won't get high speed internet so I don't believe I'll have xbox live anytime soon.:fuzmad:
I hope a much more detailed and expanded map of Oddworld will be revealed as Oddworld progresses too.... I'm really interested in exploring the worldmap, I was expecting it to be like one of the Tolkien maps from Lord of the Rings.
As for the Hand of Odd.... maybe there should not only be an 'xbox-live' version, but also a general internet version... probably two different versions should be there just in case people do have normal modems, in like flash/java-type format. Guess it's one of those programming trivials I've no idea about! Sure they will though. |
Well broadband is getting more popular because of all the possibilties....like Xbox live for one, and I don't think a regular modem would be able to handle an online game of "hand of odd's" magnitude. I just got broadband yesterday and I'm loving it! I'm going so fast! Whoooooooooooooo! Thoughs who don't have broadband should seriously consider it. It's very much worth it.
Ive had DSL for about four years now. All I can say is its great for online gaming, and for internet use. I probably would have it no other way, unless I could get a T1 line.
Will hand of odd be on XBOX or what?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that the next three OWI games will be on the Xbox.
Most likely, if it were to be released. Alf when asked about Hand Of Odd, doesn't say much about it. I kind of concluded that Hand Of Odd was halted for good.
But there is the 99.99% chance I could be wrong :D Alcar... |
Maybe they'll bring it out when popularity rises. I hope so!
OWI better not make Hand Of Odd only playable on Xbox Live like Phantasy Star. If they do, I just might have to send my ninjas after them.
MO was an exclusive Xbox title, I don't know if OWI is going to do that with their next Xbox games though. Whoa Mac! I didn't know you had ninjas!
Munch's Oddysee was the first of four games to be exclusive to Xbox. No debate.
Except about why Munch's Oddysee is being made for the GBA. |
Yeah, I heard they did a press release that XBox and OWI had a deal with their games being exclusively released on xbox console. You never know, this may change. Hand of Odd not apply to this deal though.... got a feeling it won't be about for a long time after if not at all!:fuzblink:

Hey, if they need money, that'll make the money they need. I don't have a GBA, but if I did, I'd buy MO for GBA just to support OWI.
I don't think I'd buy it for the sole reason it wasn't made by our friends ar OWI. The 10 years old gamers can play the GBA version.
MO for Game Boy Advance sounds cool, playable MO in the car!
I seriously hope that eventually Microsoft will invest in making a hand held xbox. Possibly a year or two after xbox 2 is released. Plus I would hope it would run on mini dvds, and have similar graphics to the actual first xbox.
In my opinion its totally possible. Microsoft seems to have infinite resources at their disposal anyways. *Ponders the possibilities* |
I do think that is possible. Laptops are getting smaller and smaller these days, and I know Microsoft is capable of it. I have seen a sort of handheld version of PS1. *ponders possibilities with Al*
I actually heard rumors somewhere about a handheld PS1, forgot where...
I saw one in a magazine. It looked exaclty like the mini PS1, but the top flipped for the screen and I don't know where you put the disc or controler, but it looked kinda cool. The strange thing is, I haven't heard anything about it since. Hmmmm?:fuzconf:
The handheld Playstation 1 has been dubbed PSP,or Playstation Pocket.
When did they come out with that? Does it play AO and AE?
I'm sure it plays all PS games, but I haven't even heard of PSP in a long time. Is it still on the market?
I'm not sure if it's on the market yet, but it definitely exists. They have an article on it in this month's OXM.
Very cool. Another cool thing that isn't out yet is......Digi-Scents. Have you guys heard of it? Some company is trying to make a sort of "smell-o-vision" for video games. It works by having all sorts of different scented oils to make very common or unique scents. If it's raining in your video game.....the machine will produce a rain smell by heating the right oils and blowing it out with a fan. I saw this a long time ago in Gamepro, but I haven't heard anything about it since.
Ugh, that's a horrible idea...I don't even see why they would greenlight it...
Wouldn't you just love to play sewer levels with that device?
I'd hate to kill zombies and have to smell rotting flesh of the un-dead. But hey, in a wrestling game, maybe could actually smell what the rock is cookin'!

Xbox Live has the option for you to modify the sound of your voice. It would be very cool if Hand of Odd released Oddworld voices that you could use. A Slig, Glukkons, Muds and maybe even the squeaky-ness of a fuzzle!
