:rant:I didn't look at the streaming video, but I did see the picture, and I'm a little dissapointed.(Maybe my opinion will change later when I see them in action.)
I love oddworld for it's creativity and, well...oddness! I'm sorry, but the guys in the pic look like fat, hillbily chickens who lost all their feathers. Is it just me, or does anybody else feel this way? I know that oddworld is a huge place with many stories that have not been delved into, but I didn't want to explore the strory behind fat chiken guys! Personaly I'd like to see more of that hunter guy! To talk about the pic, the chiken guys have those ponytail things; kinda like mudokons. |
Sweet we now know the main charaters name! Yay we are finally getting information. Yay the wait the long tiresome, boreing 2 year wait of speculation is over. Yay Info!:D Has it been two years since Munch? Wow that was a long wait for some information on the next game sheesh the Big nothing inwhich I have been calling this wait has come to its end! Anyway I think its a good time to reopen the spoiler section since we are getting official information on Steef's Oddessey. Anybody Alcar what do you think? Steef what an interesting creature half horse half Gorillia. But I am sure the story will not say he is that. OWI probabaly just took those animals and simply made a character out of it. It will probabaly be some new race we will be introduced to. And those chicken things. I like those they look funny and they sort of look like Mudokins in a very strange way. But I am feeling a little concerned about this though. This is very different for Oddworld but we don't know much so I wouldn't make final judgements quite yet. By the way Steef is that Hunter thing. He looks awesome.

It's funny how everyone thought EGM was playing an April Fools joke on everybody! Steef is half horse, half gorilla, and I think thats his talking boat in G-Xis's post. Lorne seems to be really excited about this one!

Now we have to remember that these creatures will be their own unieque creatures of the Oddworld Universe. Don't worry we are not going have a half Horse half Gorillia running around on Oddworld. Most likely Steef will be called something Oddworldish. OWI probabally just use those animals to make their new character. Look at Munch hes half Frog half shark. This is no different only different animals this character is based on thats all.
I can't wait till StO. Its going to be intresting. Mann in those pictures the enviorments looked amazeing. Even the water looked better than what it was in MO. I betcha those images were part of gameplay. Well welcome our new star Steef! What is he? Whats his delema he faces? What kind of issues will we face in StO? It was such a rush to complete MO, since it was moved from PS2 to XBOX, and it looked great! Now that they have more time to make a game, I think It'll give OWI a chance to show us what they can really do! ...And there's a way to trully harness the power of XBOX and give us even faster loading times!(Not that I'm complaining.)

In the picture with the chicken things the buildings in the background look rather oddworldish. They sort of in a way remind me of Flub co in the shape. They look like giant barrels. We just don't know anything yet accept for the name Steef and that he is this strange creature which is based on a Horse and Gorillia and a talking boat. And then we got those chicken things. Wierd I have to say but cool! I wounder if we are going to see Sligs in the game?

arg... all that goodness, just today, right after a Marilyn Manson concert and I'm not able to think correctly anymore for a day or two.
the first think I tought when I saw this vidéo was: "damn that rumor about the horse-monkey guy and his boat is... TRUE?" anyway I realy don't like the chickens, they just don't look good. But Steef just look wonderfull and good! I hope we will get more information at the whole show on discovery channel |
I agree with Xavier on this one. I said the chhicken guys were funny looking, but it's not something I'd expect from Oddworld.
Steef does look Awesome though! And we know he carries a gun from video we've seen. So far, no main character has used a gun personally. |

All of this is just too exciting! :D I wish I wasn't so busy over the past week, as I've kind of missed some things, but then I check out everything today and it's like "whoa".
Yeah, maybe that EGM guy wasn't so wrong after all. I watched the IGN vid today, and I'm like, "hey, there's the boat". So my "guess" in my FOM interview is correct. LOL I know there's another thread on the new character, but I'll just post all my stuff here. I think he looks really cool ... actually he looks like he's Australian! ;) That had and that is really Crocodile Dundee! Maybe I should have given Lorne an Acubra hat instead of a digeridoo!!! But what's with those chickens? They remind me of something out of Chicken Run or something (but heaps better and more well designed, as I didn't like Chicken Run at all). Maybe they are going to be highlighting something to do with how Chickens are mistreated when they are used for laying eggs or for food, as that would go in with the whole message that OWI put forward. So maybe this Steef guy has to save them and the like. I don't think we'll see Abe and Munch much (or even at all) in this one, as Lorne says that they're taking a vacation. ;) I wish I was in the US and could see The X Factor. We have Discovery Channel over here, but they never have gaming shows on it ... so we probably won't get this one either. Abe Babe... |

Ee Gads! I go to work and something else happens! I could go to the bathroom and the when I got back everyone would have somehow beat the game! Ah well, it looks pretty great to me. I can't wait to get my facts all straitened out so I can start figuring out the story and the such.

First of all, I just have to say, and I don't really want to go into a long and boring rant, that on the whole the design of OW4 looks rubbish. When I first saw Steef on the X-Factor trailor G-Xis posted I though, "Oh dear, that doesn't look tremendously impressive, or even particularly odd." In fact I likened it to a pretty commonplace cat/human hybrid that you'd see in something like Fighting Fantasy, although the way he ran from the Hunter intrigued me. Now I've seen these latest pictures (I haven't downloaded the entire video yet) and I'm pretty down in the dumps.
Ooh, knock me down with a feather, birds with dungarees. Blimey. Their houses too, while faring better on the Scale of Design, aren't very impressive. They look like barns, and not much else. Barns...chickens...hmm... And the boat, well, it's a longship. How else can you describe it? *sigh* I don't what the new Oddworld Inhabitants design team are trying to prove. Perhaps they want Farzad, Paul O'Connor and all the rest back as much as I do and are trying to provoke some responce from us. Joke conspiracy theories aside, I'm severly unimpressed by what I've seen. Except the name 'Steef', I like that. |
Calm down Max, we have only seen a few very small clipits of footage. There is still over a year of development left. What I have seen, things look to be cooler and odder then ever. I don't know what your expecting, maybe you ambitions are way too high, give OWI some credit.

Well it seems like I missed a lot while I went to sleep. I think the hunter guy is probably my favorite new thing.
And Max, I understand a lot of what your saying with creativity, but remember what the official site said. Most of this new stuff from IGN is old, and from last september like the stuff in the DC program that will be on friday. The game possibly could have changed drastically from these original concepts. So yes, its good to have some oddworld information that is new, but technically it is new old news if that makes sense. Now though Im waiting to get the latest if any on where they are since the original concepts from these vids. -Al |

I mean, yeah I was also disapointed when I saw those chickens, and I tougt wath? all those designing about horce-gorilla and then lion to finally end on a human looking creature is just... well... I don't see the point of it but it can change, it can have change |

As for what I'm expecting. Well, I wasn't expecting anything at all, except I kept close to mind that OWI said that this game would make up for the inadequacies of MO. Now what EGM told us (a monkey/horse centaur who moves eggs via a sentient boat) sounds pretty nifty, and I'm not at all dissing the storyline. That's esentially because I don't know it yet, but then the basic storyline in MO was alright, if a bit haphazard (interesting enough at the start and end, but almost nothing going on in the middle part). Of course my main gripes with MO were the cartoon-iness of it and the apparently rushed gameplay. Again, we don't know anything about either of them for OW4, but if they're patched up I'm willing to overlook the poor design on this occasion. Time will, as it often metaphorically does, tell. I'm going to watch the video now. Seen it. Steef doesn't look too bad, actually. Did anyone else notice that there were Vykkers on Raymond Swanland's design board? It seems as though they might be involved. Kind of ironic for me, because I consider Vykkers to be the oddest-designer things on Oddworld - odder even than Scrabs and Paramites. I love them in that respect, so I've got no idea what it's going to be like watching them next to the chickens, lol. |
Well , I prefer the production drawings, that we can see in the video, but I think that Steef has a great design, and a big potential how a character.
P.D: I don't know that Farzad and the others leave off from OWI.....What a PITY!!!!!?????:( |
