Interns......what the odd are they!?
 

I know I have not made a thread in here for weeks. So here we are, something that can keep the people of GD busy. So here it is.......Interns Now think about it, where did this species come from? How did they end up working with the Vykkers? What kind of name is Intern for an Oddworld species, do you think that there species has a more suiteable name if any? Also whats the evolution of these Oddworldians?

OKay now that is alot of questions so go ahead and discuss. I just thought this place needed a little bit of it:D

Hmm interesting! We don't know much about the Interns past but I would like to know more about the Intern. Like do the Interns have a queen for their race? Were they once a peaceful race that have also been abducted by the Vykkers and now are working for them? But they too could have been thrown into mistreatment like gabbits and other races by Vykkers just like how we think Sligs could of been mistreated with the Glukkons. Maybe the Interns are also some kind of Vykkers expierment. I mean those stitches on their mouths have to mean that the Vykkers dident want them talking. But why? I feel we might know more as future games come out.

Interns originally worked with the vykkers as near equals. But as time passed the vykkers realized that the interns did have quite the same work ethic as they did. So the interns employment lowered from medical jobs to more menial tasks. Such as guard duty and plugging away at computers.

well I believe Vykkers helps Interns (look at the stiched legs of the interns...) the same as the vykkers ones.

Vykkers and Interns are allways in corelation... without each others they can't do much.

I think interns were created by vykkers to do silly chores. They look a lot like vykkers so it's possible that they were created from the genes, DNA, whatever of the vykks of course with minor modifications. Being so much alike could give both species better communication between them

You know Drogo that makes alot of sense. Seeing how Vykkers are very scientific in their work. Could it be more possible that they were simply created by Vykkers. I find that to be interesting. And it makes sense. I really can't imagine a Intern Queen, but it may be possible. Also the name Intern as I said makes more sense if they were created then if they were a seperate species, where I doubt their specie name would be Intern. I like that idea.

Well that leads me back to Drogo's theory. If the Vykkers had created the Interns geneticaly, then they may not reproduce, more will just be made. However, if they do have a Queen, then in that case I believe we would see the same reproductive paterns as the other species.

maybe they are a special creature who are half made by vykkers (modified by bith), and then are "bad" cause they serve them, but they can be some non modified who can help some of the natives by revenge

Could be, but are you suggesting this non-modified was given birth from a Queen. Or the Vykkers just never modified them both physically and mentally, if they were created?

Ah, well yes I agree with you. That even in many other industrial species there are some that help out the natives, and visa versa. So now what about this question. Consider, the Interns as a species of Oddworld born from a Queen. Now in what point of Oddworlds history could they have come from, and how, if they never knew the Vykkers did they become to work together. And would you call the Interns in you're own opinion slaves, or simple mutual bussiness partners with the Vykkers?

Intern basically means first yr medical student undergoing supervised practical training (From what i gather). So, Khanz's theory sounds the more accurate. They were equals but they were bumped down.

I understand that, but the concept here is, really, how did the become a aliance with the Vykkers, that part is not to clear. And I suppose only thoery at this point can be made.

Oh, well, what actually happened was the Vykkers were originally experimenting on the Interns prior to them working. Anyway, the work load got too much for the Vykkers so they began to try and find some helpers. The majority of helpers had either a short life span or morals so in the end they handed Interns the job. Giving them some personal stereo's and lovely swimwear to keep them happy. The reasin they have their feet hacked off is because they run faster without them and work more diligently.

First off Im sure that the Interns were not created by the Vykkers, but as far a geneticly altered goes.... well its possible. Like Khanz said the Interns once where equalls with the Vykkers but nowadays we see what the Interns have become, lazy, disgruntled, secruity guards. To prevent the Interns from doing more chatting and less working the Vykkers sewed thier mouths shut and gave them headphones to listen to instead.

Well, since Vykkers labs is [or was, rather] air-borne, I would think it's safe to assume they're not native to mudos....so, I would imagine that the interns aren't, either.

Although....Interns could very well be above vykkers, hence the stitched lips, and modified feet. I mean, think about it...The vykkers wouldn't want to be working side by side with a creature that could possibly outwit and/or over throw them, so they give them 24/7 access to music and drugs...and keep the interns busy with mundane tasks. Since the interns are also so lazy, it wouldn't surprise me if OWI was poking fun at their actual interns....you never know, I guess.

I have a vague memory that both Vykkers and Interns evolved in trees (maybe someone can confirm this).

Now here's my theory: Vykkers and Interns lived in the treetops of Mudos. The Interns were a harmless race that avoided the Vykkers as they sensed the evil in them. They weren't called Interns then. The Vykkers' sadistic impulses took over and they started experimenting on any creature that they could get their hands on. Unfortunately this happened to be the blameless Interns.

Now anyone with a good knowledge of Middle Earth knows that Melkor created the orcs from elves that he trapped and tortured. Similarly, the Vykkers' experiments on the Interns turned them into the creatures that they are today: cruel, violent and insane; only able to live through the day with loud music and pills. Also they took away the Interns' cultural identity so that all they were left as a name for their species was a job description.

I think that the Interns hate and fear the Vykkers but are dependant on them as they now have nothing else. Perhaps one day the Interns will revolt against their oppressors and join the revolution!

That is a brilliant, yet clear, and common cense type theory. I really like it. That bridges up alot of things, and nice comparison with Middle Earth. I like it, does anyone have comments on this theory?

Well, the Interns seem to be helpless towards the Vykkers, so they may be higher up on the evolutionary ladder than the Vykkers, but have been modified so that they think they arent.

As we know, the Vykkers are evil bastards, so somewhere along the time when they discovered their sadistic intentions to the present, they may have killed off a large percentage of the Interns original species, modified their genes, and bred them into a life of hard work.

There may have been a queen for the original speices, but if they were bred intentionally for work-related purposes, there probably wouldnt be a queen now. Maybe they are all just clones of the first modified Intern that was created, thats why there seem to be an endless supply for the Vykkers. But I guess we will find out more of their history in one of the next games.

Oddsville, the Vykkers were sposed to have psychic powers. It was something because of their spindly claws and they were unable to pick small things up. So they had the psychic powers to help them.

Either that or they created this harness type thing that allows them to lift things up with their mind.

I doubt the intern's are treated as badly as you think. Other than the stitches, I don't think the vykkers have done anything incredibly cruel to them.

I think the interns are actually a larger less intelligent subspecies of the vyyker.

The middle earth theory sound pretty sound too.

I'm sorry, all the "they were created!" and "beaten into submission and brainwashed" type stuff just seems stupid. For one, do you even know what the interns feet used to look like? Maybe they had hoofs or something, and it didn't work well on metal. Stiched up mouths doesn't seem like much. All this "Vykkers are all sadistic" stuff doesn't really sound logical to shutup all of their workers. Maybe it had to do with them like killing themselves, or uncontrolable eating habbits*burps*

How'd they get working together? Either they did scientific work together and the Interns moved on over to smaller stuff (laziness). Or there were a few helpers needed around to save the Vykkers times, I mean, they don't really have the greater hands. And it wouldn't be good if half the scientists were always on guard duty. Interns may have wanted a social ride up or something, or maybe just wanted an easy job where they get some shelter/food etc... in return.

"The Glukkons and Sligs came from the swamps. The Glukkons descended from octopus-like creatures while Sligs descended from a slug-like species. The Vykkers come from species that once lived in trees; they still have a tendency to try to live in the air. The Interns are a subservient race to the Vykkers. They are a bit dimwitted but make good assistants. "
Note: The Interns are a subservient race to the Vykkers. So they are sort of speciffically designed to serve Vykkers

No, Interns have their mouths sewn up because they have a very irritating tendancy to whistle while they work. Also they aren't given drugs, they pilfer them from drugs cabinets.

And I'd always thought that Interns were once aquatic. They have those huge hands that look like oars or fins. Granted, they don't exactly look built for the water, but then neither do Gabbits or snakes.

If Interns were capable of swimming in water wouldn't they have webbed hands? Instead they just have these spindly things, which, are much like that thing that lives in the trees and has a long spindly finger. Although their head is canoe like...which possibly allows for it to pass through the water alot easier.

Yeah, I was thinking of their fingers earlier. I don't think they'd need webbed hands to swim (our hands aren't particularly webbed), although it certainly would help. Besides, I would think that webbed hands would slow the Interns down in their modern lifestyle, so the Vykkers could remove the webs or do some genetic alterations.

Similar thing with the missing feet.

Fine, so the Interns are/could be/could have been/will be aquatic. What else can we say about them? How would their voice sound like without their mouths tied up? What do they listen to their cr@py headphones? Isn't it weird that they all live together, in a community but don't talk to themselves? Don't they fell they're life is dull?
