The sligs' story...

From my point of view sligs are awesome. But they're all sort of stupid. Although they are highly social, the average sligs in AO & AE are extremely stupid. It's like gluckons train them to be dumb. I would like to see a smart slig for a change. Although a smart slig with a gun can be more than deadly. And they all have the same mentality because of the influences they receive from gluckons and other sligs. Besides Lulu's valet they all want to the same dream: High rank and lots of mulah (I don't blame them though). Maybe in the future Oddworld games they will become more than measily little guards (don't count the Big Bro). What changes do you think sligs will have considering phisical adjustments (Big Bro, Flying), their believes and mental capabilities???

Xavier 09-27-2002 06:58 PM

as far as I know there are only a few "inteligent" sligs
The Valet Slig, who is a proffesional for entertaintment.
The Newcaster Slig, who presents the Magog on March.
Grig the Slig, who writes in The Daily Deception.

but I'm sure there are others, but I dunno why they are smater then the others

BigBro 09-28-2002 05:08 AM

I, personally, dont think a smart Slig would be very good for the Gluks; he could start some sort of movement and rebel against the Glukkons of the Magog Cartel. He would be smart enough to lead the other Sligs too, coz he knows what they want, all he would have to do is promise them Moolah, then have his Big Bros get rid of them all. Simple, but highly possible.

The reason there is no intelligent Sligs may be coz the Gluks do something to them when they are transferred from Skillya to make them blindly loyal to all Gluks. If any got away/the treatment didnt work on them, they were probably hunted and downsized.

no cause sligs are egoistich... they don't care for other sligs, they want profit for themself

Niteowl 09-29-2002 03:37 AM

How about that slig on the phone in AE telling the broker to sell the Soul Storm stock while the dumb gluks end up handing Soulstorm's achille heel to Abe.
"What if he gets to the boiler!"

Xavier 09-29-2002 03:45 AM

well, he is only a glukkon's personal slig. we don't know enough to know if he's intelligent

Drogo 10-03-2002 05:33 PM

Maybe smart sligs come from another queen. That way they inherit different genes. Maybe...........

ryu 10-03-2002 05:41 PM

i kno what ya mean but sligs can be easily out smarted by simply get them ta chase you then run and jump over a mine and then stupidly theyll run inta the mine! KA BOOM!

Xavier 10-03-2002 06:02 PM

it isn't 100% stupidity
1 they can't jump
2 they don't see the mine, they look at you

Jacob 10-03-2002 09:24 PM

Or maybe the lack of AI in the game could be the cause of such a thing happening.

The Vykkers probably dose them up with something at birth, something that destroys the braincells, only leaving enough for minor tasks. They then choose what Sligs they want to become more than the usual guards and save them the torment of being de-intellectualised.

(The Glukkons pay the Vykkers to do this by the by)

Xavier 10-04-2002 04:26 AM

Jacob, that sounds like a real good idea!
and it can explain lots of things
I like that idea

Drogo 10-04-2002 05:43 PM

The reason they enter mines when they follow you could be because of their helmet thing. This could give them low visibility. That could also answer why they bump in walls when they follow you (without noticing your not there anymore).

Xavier 10-04-2002 05:54 PM

well the first version of the mask aren't that good
but the second version seems to work pretty good
but in the Abe games all the gameplay sligs have the first kind of mask, it can explain the low visibility

Oddsville 10-04-2002 07:57 PM

Well, the main reason why Sligs are so dumb is because they are never put into any real schools. They may recive some small amount of education but not a sufficiant one. Another reason why most Sligs are dumb is because of thier lifestyle, hey if we lived like a Slig then this would be a messy, smelly, stupid world...

Jacob 10-04-2002 09:01 PM

Dont try and steal my Thunder, Oddsville...

brewmaster 10-05-2002 03:13 PM

you never know a smart slig may try and take over and kill his boss to become the boss.

Xavier 10-05-2002 07:27 PM

a slig will never kill his boss, cause he will get no mony anymore...

tybie_odd 10-05-2002 08:46 PM

When people have a person over them who has undisputed power, sometimes they act stupid as an instinctual act of submissiveness, to show that they are obediant and don't want to be punished. This can be seen in some situations with humans, how when someone thinks you are stupid, and yet they have ultimate power over you, you act stupid just so you won't have to disagree with them and make them angry. But over time your opinion of your own intellectual capabilities takes the form of the acted-mind you display day after day after day...

doesn't sound probable, but it's something to take into consideration...maybe...

Xavier 10-06-2002 03:20 AM

well, good point tybie_odd...
but I'm not sure it's like this for sligs

BigBro 10-06-2002 06:21 AM

I know Ive already posted in here and it seems I have been holding my peace for the time it has been here, but Sligs were, are, and always will be stupid. Its in their nature. If they were smart, then the games would be too hard coz you wouldnt be able to get rid of them...........*Waits for pies to be thrown*...

Xavier 10-06-2002 11:57 AM

how do you explain the some intelligents then???
like the valet, Crig, the newcaster,...

Oddsville 10-06-2002 08:21 PM

lol, sorry Jacob. *Sighs* What was I gonna post about?........... Oh yeah! I remember now, dispite Jacobs theory there are some smart Sligs out there. I mean there are always jobs that someone dosn't want and when that comes to terms theres always thoughs good ol Sligs to rely on. Unfotunatly the poor ol Gluks have to pay a sufficiant amount of thier Moohla from their vast account to pay for these certain Sligs' education for thier specilized jobs.

I was refering to the in-game Sligs.:p;)

TheKhanzumer 10-07-2002 01:11 PM

Sligs (like humans) have the capacity to learn and become quite intelligent. Most are never educated though which is why they are usually fairly stupid. Others, like the ones Xavier mentioned, are most likely self-educated and got lucky enough to find a job that they like better than being a security guard.

Oddipus 10-07-2002 02:36 PM

C'mon people! Sligs are dumb!
Even Crig, newscaster and Valet. Don't tell they have jobs that acquire them to have a higher IQ then the other sligs. Reading the news, serving a Glukkon, .... PLEASE

paramiteabe 10-07-2002 02:46 PM

I feel sligs are a lower lifeform than other races of Oddworld but still smart enough to fulfill tasks. When I think of sligs I think of intellegent dinosaurs. Stupid yes but still intellegent enough to be aware of who they are and what they must do.

I also notice how in each game the slig gets something new or looks improved. We saw regular sligs in AO but when AE came out the sligs changed a bit with their flying skills and their masks were altered. Then came MO where we saw a big change where now sligs have armor and have boosted their growth spirt as being a Big Bro. Whats next? Well I would like to see something to do with scuba gear for a slig. But the scuba gear would be for a certain breed of slig and not all.

Could you imagine the Vykkers performing surgery on sligs giveing them real body parts like legs so they could jump. And those legs would be from another species that is being tortured?
That type of slig that I have just thought of could be the ones to where scuba gear to go after Munch. It's sadistic and very twisted. I see sligs with real legs in the future and I see them takeing to the water with harpoons. Thats a theory of mine at least.

Or if you don't like legs some kind of new and improved mechanical leg that allows the slig to jump or swim. I can see sligs whereing special underwater masks and like flying sligs have small perpellers to guide them underwater carrying harpoons.

writing good articles isn't that easy, you need to write, to stay coherent,... and Crig do it succesfully, do you realy think he is dumm?

example of Crig's article

:

By Crig the Slig

What looks to be the only copy of a RuptureFarms employee manual was discovered in the outskirts of the infamous meatpacking plant. The manual was in excellent condition and appears to include the signature of former employee of the month, Abe the Mudokon. Once identified as belonging to the renegade Mud, a bidding war broke out throughout the universe and has not ceased. Extreme bidding traffic from the small continent of Australia as well as VykkersLabs and this newspaper has been reported.

Jacob 10-07-2002 05:58 PM

I like the idea of them taking to water, but i dont like the idea of them actually getting legs. They should just have mechanical pants that are like rotors and big masks on their faces or something...

I do think that plastic surgery and transplants will be in the OW games though...

Oddipus 10-08-2002 06:27 AM

Swimming sligs, I like it. But not with the fake legs, rather the mechanical way.

X4, I must admit, the reporter (Crig) has the job that asks for the highest IQ of the 3. But who says he writes his own stories? Maybe he's just the face. A Mud might be pushed to write the articles.

Xavier 10-08-2002 04:15 PM

there will be Interns for the aquatics guards... not sligs.
Oddipus I don't think Crig is a Mud, Why should alf lie us about thet... plus I saw a pictures of crig (maybe false, okay) and it was a slig head

Drogo 10-08-2002 05:10 PM

The newscaster could be the smartest. He could be far away from this part of Oddworld. The part where muds aren't sclaves. And that's because he makes fun of the three gluckons. So he's not obediant. So maybe he got to have a better education and not havind to depend on glucks.

Jacob 10-08-2002 05:14 PM

What makes you think the Interns will be aquatic?

And i think Odd meant that Crig tells a Mudokon what to type up and then takes the credit for it. Or he forces a Mudokon to type it all up and then takes the credit.

Jacob 10-08-2002 06:29 PM

Yeh, that doesn't mean anything. Interns just wear the Speedo's for fashion accesories and nothing more. They are all wearing swimwear...its like a slightly amusing thing. Thats all, nothing more.

Xavier 10-08-2002 06:32 PM

I'm sure you allways wear swimwear without ever going in the water... ahum

TheKhanzumer 10-08-2002 09:43 PM

scuba diving interns

Actually I believe interns were originally going to be scuba-diving enemies for Munch in underwater levels. But, like many things, that idea never made the final cut.

Xavier 10-09-2002 04:20 AM

yes Khanz... I saw something like that too, if there must be an industrial aquatic ennemy it will be an intern

paramiteabe 10-09-2002 11:15 AM

But do we have to rule out sligs? I mean what if there is some kind of offshore Glukkon oil rig that extends underwater through massive pipelines. I am sure we will see sligs underwater if there was something like that. The sligs suits will be like mini subs with little perpellers on the back. Just like the flying slig only as submersible sligs. I say thats Oddworld like. Ya Know?

Xavier 10-09-2002 05:11 PM

I doubt we will see under the water, I would prefer some other creature, new ones...

Jacob 10-09-2002 06:16 PM

Interns dont exactly seem aquatic-esque though do they?
