The children who have been lead astray by ODDWORLD(!)

Right, im sure you all know what im going on about. And if you dont then ill tell you. Im talking about kids on the forum wanting OW tattoo's like that of Abes. Ok...so, just to show that im not the only one who thinks like this could people please back me up on this...(!) I know Danny will...i hope he will. And i have a inkling (Thats a baby Ink) that Majic Abe will. But come on people, back me up on this...kids wanting tattoo's like Abes!! Just tell them its wrong!!

Doug 05-22-2002 08:50 PM

I don't think anyone under a certain age should be able to get a tattoo of any sort -- Oddworld or otherwise. I don't pretend to know what the cutoff age should be, but one shouldn't choose to get a tattoo without a bit of wisdom and worldly experience. Laser surgery notwithstanding, tattoos are essentially permanent, after all.

In Pennsylvania, it's a third degree misdemeanor to tattoo anyone under the age of 18 without the consent of parent or guardian.

I wonder if the kids on the forum could be talking about those fake tattoos, many of which look quite real.

Jacob 05-22-2002 08:56 PM

If you go to General Oddworld Discussion then one person has the Abe Tattoo on his chest...via NEEDLE

Majic 05-22-2002 08:57 PM

Tattos of Abe's scars! Thats an awesome idea! In fact, I want to go get symbols put all over my body like an alien freak! Jeez, real tatoos should really have an age line somewhere like Doug said. Besides, theres other way to express yoruself, mainly by personality, but geez, tatoos? Heh...

Melvin:squeeking paramite 05-22-2002 08:57 PM

I think that you have to be over 18 to get a tattoo, and 16+ with parental permission, but I may be wrong.

As for people wanting one of OW... Eh, I really think that people should think for a while before making such a decision. I don't mind if someone does, but they'll probably end up wanting it gone, because no one knows what the hell OW is any more, or they just lose interest. Then they would have to get laser surgery, etc...

Aren't they more likely to know now than in the past? Munch's Oddysee is one of the Xbox's launch titles and it's more mass-market than the previous games.

That's not what I meant... I meant that, when the kids that want an OW tattoo get old enough to actually get one, it's very possible that hardly any one will know what it is any more.

Nate 05-23-2002 01:58 AM

Personally, I think that if anyone wants to have a tattoo of an OW symbol, they should be forced to have a small (TM) symbol at the bottom.

That would make them think twice about it!

Mac the Janitor 05-23-2002 03:05 AM

I don't think ANYONE under the age of 18 should get a tatoo, let alone an Abe one.

Sure, they might think that it's cool now, showing it to other OW fans and stuff, but eventually, they'll hate it. They'll have to wake up every morning and see the big ugly thing on their chest. I remember when I was a lil' midget and liked Pokeman. (Ugh...what was I thinking...) Anyways, I was pretty into Pokeman at the time and wanted the Gameboy games. Problem was, I didn't have a Gameboy. So, I saved up some money and bought the Pokeman Gameboy with Pokeman all over it. My parents told me not to buy it and just get a plain one, but I didn't listen. I just said, "No way, I'll always love Pokeman!" And now I am stuck with a stupid, nerdy Pokeman Gameboy and I wish I would have not gotten it in the first place. Whew, out of breath!:)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp You know Jacob, even though I don't respond to a lot of threads I do read your topics and replies. I have come to a decision to impart to you my friendly opinion on how you handle things. It seems to me that if you want people to be considerate of your beliefs and lifestyle, then you should extend to them the same courtesy as you yourself expect. Am I right? I constantly see topics and replies from you in which you attack other members for their beliefs and actions. Posting your thoughts and opinions is more then fine. In fact, it's encouraged. What we do not encourage nor condone is attacking others ideas, beliefs and actions. You don't have to agree with me, but that doesn't give anyone the right to belittle anybody else here, including me.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I, myself, am one who is considering the possibility of getting tatooed. I mentioned it before, and I also said that I am doing it for reasons that probably nobody here could understand; I won't explain it further. Immediately I am attacked by someone who only, too, wants to be accepted for who they are and what they do. Yes?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I am all for one having strong beliefs and standpoints; you have expressed such, but for the life of me, I ask that you please extend a little more courtesy and respect to your fellow forum members.

Sal the Mudokon 05-23-2002 04:38 AM

Beautifully said, Pilot.

I think that age doesn't isn't usually a measure of maturity or wisdom. I've seen some crazy old people and some very respectable and intelligent junior high students. These are rare occasions, but it does happen. I think that anyone at any age should be allowed to recieve a tatoo, but anyone under 15 should have to have to go through not just a parental concent, but even a background check to make sure that they aren't doing it at the preference of their parents (reasons: surprise, surprise... we live in a pretty ****ed up world).
I, personally, may get into tatoos and get them for why I would like them: to show some of my personality.
For one: The fact that you HAVE a tatoo can show something of your personality.
And secondly: You can make a statement that you feel strong about or use the content of your tatoo to reveal some of your personality.
If I were to get a tatoo, I would probably get a religious one, first, which would probably be on my arm. Then maybe one that was some sort of strange symbol that I felt characterized me, which would be a little more hidden from view. And finally, MAYBE, I would get an Oddworld tatoo. It probably wouldn't be one of Abe's symbols, but rather a saying from the game or an image of a specific character. I would ONLY get an Oddworld tatoo if it truly made me feel like we shared ALL of the same opinions. I guess I would have to see more of the quintology before I would take the step of getting such on my flesh... and I'd probably like to meet the makers before that too.

Jacob 05-23-2002 11:51 AM

Its not that i dont respect certain members...well...it is. But as everyone know's i am IMMENSLY shallow. Hell, if i see a ugly person crying i wont console them...however, if someone attractive is crying then i will. My friends say i am nice and that im a great guy to be around so it must be with people i consider lower than me that i am a bastard to. I do apologise th0...if you want to ruin your sex/social/love life by showing what a gaming freak you are then fine...go ahead. But just remember that guy who played Counter Strike for over 24 hrs and died...i expect some of you peeps will be like that.

kleeng 05-23-2002 05:21 PM

O for crying out loud

DIDN'T YOU LEARN ANY THING FROM WHAT PILOT SAID!!

Hopeles compleatly hopeles.

Danny 05-23-2002 05:50 PM

I'm not keen on being the only one to oppose Justin here, but much as I agree that Chris could generally bear to be a bit more tactful, I think that this topic was a reasonable one, and I for one think that the idea of kids going out and getting Abe tattoos is a fairly disturbing one...

Jacob 05-23-2002 05:56 PM

Kleeng...i scan through the longer preachyness of some replies...i cant be bothered to read it word by word ok?

Majic 05-24-2002 12:59 AM

This has turned quite interesting. Like said before, it seems like the young (like oddling) don't have much "wisdom". I know that is somewhat of a generalization, but really, just because something is cool or you like it doesnt mean go get it put on your body, more or less permanently. Chris is somewhat radical in his views, but hes himself, and he just seems very outspoken, and who knows why he may have some small (ok, maybe bigger) problem with being considerate. Heh, but I agree with Danny on this, and tatoos are, I just don't like them anyway.

Pilot 05-24-2002 04:11 AM

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Jacob; Danny; There's no problem whatsoever with sharing your opinions with the rest of us. Like I said, I enjoy reading them. What I don't enjoy (and I sure everybody else agrees) is when that personal attack is put into motion. For the record: the reason I am considering getting tatooed is NOT because I think it's "cool," but because the symbols have come to form a completely new profound meaning for me. In a way, I have proprietized then to fit into my life, and I think it's something that would be perfectly suitable for me to do, given my situation. Back to before, what I don't enjoy is having someone say that I need to "...get serious help," or convincing me how bad it is without even considering that there might be some sort of other unknown background information. And just to put your concience at ease, I will be waiting a couple of years before I consider further having the tops of my hands permanently marked.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Sal, Thank you. You mentioned that "you'd probably like to meet the makers..." Well, I've done that as you probably know. And to this day... They have both (Lorne especially) made a deep impression on me. For me, Lorne was just that kind of guy that gets your attention, he has a real strong, welcoming presence. The moment I first saw him walk in the studio doors behind me I was in awe. My mouth hung open and the whole bit. And even still I am just swept away. Wise man.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Back on topic, I do agree in the area that a tatoo should not be gotten just because one thinks it is "cool" -- it could just be a passing fancy and in the end, you'll wish you'd never have gotten it.

Jacob 05-24-2002 10:36 AM

ooooooooooooooK. Not to leap on you some more (As it were) but you seem to have wasted quite abit of money due to OW. Making the microphone and then buying the Munch addition of Windows XP. Dont get me wrong, its alright to be a 'Die hard fan' but wasting your munni due to a game...its kinda...well...passé. It was the main thing a couple of yrs back, but no more.

Sl'askia 05-24-2002 11:48 AM

Chris just back off ok? As long as he is not threatening his or anyone elses life its none of our business what he does in his personal life.
As for me...I been thinking off and on about getting a small dragon tattoo...but that is not a major priority in my life.

Spider: what priorities?

Oh hush...

Teal 05-24-2002 12:08 PM

I suppose it's like hard-core Star Trek fans... they get a lot of flak from people, but who really cares what they want to do with their lives, and whether they look "sad" or not? It's not affecting my life if they want to wear pointy ears, after all.

Precisely. They're happy with it, and happy people stay off other people's backs ;) Most of the time, anyway (ahem). ^^,

I don't think anyone should give a damn if anyone else thinks their behaviour/thoughts are stupid... the people in question will either forget about the behaviour/thought or you can find a way to avoid them if you must. BTW, even though I believe this, it doesn't mean I always manage to be detatched from what needn't bother me. En contraire, I fail a lot, though it's getting less... slowly.

Can't we all just get along? ;D

Heheh, funny comment about the smurfs.

Now, there's the question. Are they talking about you? If yes, why do you care? ^_^ Why get upset about something that you may never have known about if this forum didn't exist? (evil forum *jk*)

I don't see your name mentioned (maybe I missed something?), so I'm hoping your post was meant more as an amusing sidedish of chips to the main course here, and not really taking the above as an insult to your persona directly :)

munch man Abe 05-24-2002 02:41 PM

Teal 05-24-2002 02:50 PM

Chris (eh, Jacob) is ALWAYS getting in trouble some way or another... And I didn't see any names mentioned, I just saw it as Chris opening-mouth-and-inserting-foot once more.

(Oh, and munch man abe... people would probably think you were older if you learned to type legibly. And rather than Underwooding/doubleposting, try using the edit button.)

Al the Vykker 05-24-2002 02:55 PM

Pilot you do have a point, if a tatoo is something the person wants because it means something to them then let the needling begin, it is their choice and no one can take that away from them.

But Jacob does have a point I don't think kids should be getting them either way, I'm fourteen and I would not get a tatoo because I one, don't think I'm ready, two I don't want one, and three, it is something I would have to really want, because it would be with me forever. So I don't think kids should be getting them even early teens because they don't fully understand what they are actually getting into.

munch man Abe 05-24-2002 03:06 PM

Anyway, yes, let's all just shut up and learn to coexist in a more peaceful manner (or else ignore each other better).

Jacob 05-24-2002 04:24 PM

Its interesting. I share my opinion...sure abit tactlessly...but still. And then i get comments which i have to correct and put down the person for making...ohhh, the chores i go through.

:

(1)Are yuo talking about ME!!!!!! (2) Well if you are do you actully think I'm 16I'm 20 (3) you Twit. (4) And lets see you trie and make a perfect Abe, Munch, Slurg,Fleech, crawling slig, glokkon and fuzzle clay modle (5) You may resume watching the smerfs
(1) - Erm...did you get a Abe Tattoo? If u did...then yes...i was.

(2) - I apologise...your IQ, age or common sense doesn't seem to get across that well...mostly cos you cant spell, you seem like a 10 yr old AND you got a Abe Tattoo.

(3) - How offensive...i'm a 'Twit'

(4) - I have a life...and i dont need to make models to prove my superiority over you...just spell correctly;)

(5) - yyyyyyyyyyyyes?

:

(1)because he's sixteen years old! I'm 20!!!!!(2) And He can't even come close to having any of my talents!(3) Clay modles is't my olny talent. (4)excellent voice mimicing and I can open two doors with my Feet!! (5) And Jacob is in BIG trouble on the forum
(1) - Sweet 16...moronic 20...nuff sed.

(2) - Oh yes...and i want to be able to humiliate myself in under 3 mins.

(3) - No...no of corse its not.

(4) - Yes...Yes...THE JOBS YOU CAN GET...YOU'D BE RICH!! RICH!! *Drips with sarcasm*

(5) - Reporting me? Ok...sure, but i didn't insult anyone out right. I put my opinion across...you threatened me with appauling spelling and grammer. Ugh...i feel so violated.

:

DON'T GET ON MY BAD SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes or he wont open the door with his feet again...be warned.

In conclusion...sure, i spose you can have tattoo's if they mean something...but its stupid getting it cos its 'Cool' or 'Hip' cos in the end you wont have a sex life...social life...or love life, they are prioritised in that order. Also...you wont be cool or hip...you'll be a sad 35 yr old virgin. Also, i might as well move onto the fact about society and how they frown upon such people. The different are not excepted...has anybody noticed that? And i mean different such as Star Trek peeps and geeky peeps like that...have you ever seen a load of Star Trek peeps out drinking with the Lawyers and people...? Have you?...WELL!? Oh...and Munchman...what do you do for a job (This is directed at the self acclaimed '20' yr old)

And i dont want this topic to be closed...its gettting interesting. The 3rd 'T' was for 'Truly'.

kleeng 05-24-2002 04:37 PM

I know tatoos arn't for kids but in any resonably sivelised country I don't think you'l be able to get a tattoo if your under age.

And Jacob's first remarks wherent against lille kids gettin tatoos its against gettin OWI tatoos in general.

:

Ok...word of warning for people who want 'Odd' Tatoo's. Ahem, i know i am going to come off as the forum bastard again, but please, i am older, kooler and a Hell of a lot wiser.

Ahem. Dont get them, main reason cos if you get a boy/girlfriend (Especially when your younger) the lass/lad will go "Wow, whats that tatoo?" and you will reply with "Its from a game." you will then get dumped. Also, its quite sad...when your my age you will realise how sad it is...getting a tatoo just cos it was on a game...OWI didnt want this to happen, they just wanted to make money out of a decent game, now all of a sudden there is lil' kids popping up and wanting to have tatoo's and stuff. Max...do NOT encourage them. They do not need people who are half way across the world saying "Thats cool." mainly because they will not make any real life friends. Even geeks will shun them. Its a sad truth but something you all have to know. Sure, the guys on the OWI body art page have them but...BIG DEAL!? It doesn't make it right. Nor does it make it wrong, but your gonna have a shit ride in life if you go through with this. I want a Tatoo...but im gonna get one thats decent...like a lil' Devil with a Halo over it with the words "Angelic Demon" or something visa versa. Thats gonna be cute, and attract friends and girls. What you lot are doing is just wrong (In the world of yr 7- 11).

O and you dont come off as the forum bastard YOU ARE THE FORUM BASTARD!
