music
so what are all you oddworld fans into music wise then?
im into a bit of everything from 80's gothic to black metal (its all good) i also like to take a route through the oldschool ska section to) |
I like all kinds of genres, but only one band makes my day: Apollo 440. Considering they do everything from ambiet/classic over dance and rock to heavy metal and hiphop, with a bit of jazz in this song and some blues here and a lot of drum 'n' bass everywhere... can't see anything else wedging itself between me and the Liverpool trio.
If you think they're uncreative then you've only heard their singles. ;) I don't know who picks the singles, but it's a crap selection. You might know them from their insanely popular evergreen "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Dub", or, if you're REALLY into 80s and know of Magazine/Devoto, you'll have heard of them. English people: NME thinks they suck for a specific reason: Noko was part of "Luxuria" with Devoto (a punk rock icon), and obviously Devoto is important. Well. NME seems to find Noko was trying to be too important back then, and so now that he's Apollo440's guitarrist, they diss Apollo 440. Sad picture, sadder excuse. Aside from that, I listen to Linkin Park (even if I realise they objectively aren't that good the music just GETS to me, people :D ), some Marilyn Manson if it's good, some Moby if it's good, some Anastasia, some Highland... some anything, really. Heck, I even like "OOOOHWEEEE!" or whatever the song is called. *laughs* Hmm... I really don't like 100% of R&B in the charts and 50% of all hiphop in the charts. I have a personal grouch against Destiny's Child, so if you're a DC fan, bring it on ;) I think that about covers it. Oh, Oddworld music obviously beats everything. Or not :D - TyA... or Neike Satana, highpriestess of the apollo apostels / the camden cult (yes, the cult is a big joke, you can calm down again) Edit: Oh! OH! I know! They can perform live with two drummers! ... ... okay. I'm done now... I think. o_o Edit2: And yes, Noko + Devoto are the same Noko + Devoto from my Noko + Devoto signature file. |
my kind of music is, hard rock, rock, metal
i hate, rap, country, pop and so on...... |
Ska rulez General! (did the "z" make me sound cooler?)
I'm more of a punk man myself... |
I like too wide a selection of music to list what I like... It would be a lot quicker to list what I don't like:
Commercial Pop Nu-Metal/Hip-Hop Rap (I'm overgeneralising here - some rap is good, but all too much of it is all the same...) Dance (Ditto to above - Also, I don't include in this heading a lot of genres that record stores tend to put in the dance section, even though they are good, e.g. Trip-Hop, Ambient, etc.) Hang on, I'll go and dig out one of the many topics that have been done on this subject before, since it would save me repeating myself too much... http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...ighlight=bands http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...ighlight=bands http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...ighlight=music - This is the one I actually bothered to list all the bands in my record collection in. Hell, was I bored... http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...ighlight=music |
Bad genres: (biased!)
Rap and hip hop (It pretty much all sounds the same.... I don't know if it's even music... The lyrics are crap, the tunes (if you can call them that) are all the same and annoying... And most of the rap people are incredibly untalented.) Pop (Okay, it's hard to explain this one... When I say pop, I mean the over-popular crappy boy bands, the over-popular female musical "artists" who rely on their looks, you get the idea...) Punk-pop (ick) MOST metal (Some metal is very good, but I hate most mainstream, straight metal bands who just scream meaningless lyrics into a microphone. But some metal is pretty good... I like funk-metal...) Country (I just.. don't like it) Techno (playing three noises over and over doesn't appeal to me...) Okay, so those are the genres that I don't like... But, of course, I can't stand some rock, classical, etc... My favorite band is Pink Floyd... I like Frank Zappa... Primus is a great, underlooked band... Mr Bungle.... The Beatles... Smashing Pumpkins... Radiohead... Bob Dylan... Pere Ubu... Tool... Nine Inch Nails... Oysterhead... Many others, and next week I'll probably like about 10 more bands... I need to try Faith No More for Mike Patton... But I've heard they're rap-metal and rap-metal is usually shit... |
I am not really into the new age type stuff. I live with the old rock music of the 60's and 70's like.
1. Led Zeplon 2. Jimi Hendriks 3. The Beatles 4. The Doors 5. Dylan 6. Rolling Stones 7. Janas Joplyn 8. Pink Floyd 9. Solos of Lennon and George Harrison. May they rest in piece! etc. Basically I like hippie stuff. Sometimes I wish I lived through that era. I would of loved to be at the first Wood Stock to see Jimi Hendriks play the National Anthem wildly on his Guitar in the summer of 69. All that I know is that nobody nowadays will ever get back the sound of those times. Those were the legends of true Rock n Roll.:fuzblink: It's cool sometimes my brother. He owns an electric guitar and he can play Stair Way to Heaven almost perfactly. I usually listen to that music when I am doing my art work. |
I to shall start with what I hate:
Rap *sudder* Thers like five "lil' " rappes now, and everything sucks.... Pop... Crappy boy bands and stupid freaks, dressing like lil pimps and such. Country... I personaly don't like (generalization) listening to old giesers sing about roping cattle and stuff. Heavy Metal, etc... Very painful to the ears, very indeed. Now what I LIKE: Um, alternative, punk, rock, um rock stuff, Yea... Like um, Greenday, Five Iron Frenzy, The Offspring, One Man Army, Rancid, Less Than Jake, AFI, 311, Dropkick Murphys, Eve6, Garbage, Stroke 9, The Ataris, Sum 41, um, yea... And classical and disco are ok;) EDIT: I don't see how, but I missed Bad Religion:eek: And The Beatles! Geez, I suck. |
hmmmm
well, I guess I'll just list some of my favorite bands, rather than preferred genre, since I enjoy boring you all to death. :D Rammstein, Soulfly, Sepultura, Black Funeral, Cradle of Filth, NIN, Static-X, Ramones, Bad Religion, Thrice, Blur, Coal Chamber, Seven Dust, Twisted Sister, Snot, Marilyn Manson, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Cypress Hill, M.C. Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Metallica, Powerman 5000, WHITE [not rob] Zombie, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Screaching Weasel, Pearl Jam, Tool, Deftones, APC, Danzig, Misfits[when danzig was doing vocals..can't stand Michael Graves], 6 feet under, dredge, system of a down [pre toxicity] , AFI, The Biohazards, and a BUTT load of local bands. Now, for the ca ca I can't stand: Blink 182, sum 41, new found glory, ANY pop, country, and most rap...I despise R&B as well. I hate a LOT of specific bands, but due to my short attention span, I shan't be listing them. :) |
Like most everyone else, I start with what I hate:
Rap/Hip Hop Commercial Pop (Britney Spears, Destiny's CHild, etc.) Country Techno Bands that I like are: Green Day Blink 182 Sum41 The Hives Unwritten Law Jimmy Eat World I also hate most Heavy Metal bands like Slipknot and Mudvayne. Maudvayne aren't even talented... Jeez. |
It all depends on what you prefer, morgan. For those people, like me, who are "in tune" to "metal" you can pick up on talent pretty quick. Now, while mudvayne aren't the best, they certainly aren't without talent. Not that they have much, but it;s there. Now, blink 182 and sum 41,those guys have real talent.....
|
I'm into classical music and opera and a few symphonies, Beethoven is good too.
|
I, personally, like music.:D
To speak of genres would be WAY too broad, so I'm going to try something to mention the one's that I KIND of think are ok, but in shitty types of music. Hate: MOST techno, minus that Basement Jaxx song, Nine Inch Nails (whatever Reznor is) and... yeah just those two. Pop, unless they are female and the volume is turned completely down and I am prepared to have an erection. Rap/Hip Hop/R&B/... I've come to the firm conclusion that, well, it ALL sucks. It's all the ****ing same! "Holla! Word! Pimpin Bitches, Money! Don't rhyme! I'm better than everyone, but have no REAL reason why!" there! I can sell that as a rap single. Retro-Rock: WHAT THE ****!?!? WHO'S SHIT-HEAD IDEA WAS IT TO LOOK AND SOUND LIKE SOMETHING THAT SUCKED THE FIRST TIME AROUND?! It's just an idiotic way to cash in on lack of originallity and get an audience that can listen to music with their grandparents. Like: Most Rock-type music: Nu-Metal...very little is worth listening to: Static X is pretty good, System of a Down is cool, most of the rest SUCKS(i.e. Mudvayne, Marylin Manson, Drowning Pool). Metal: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, and Judas Priest will ALWAYS be the gods of the genre, though most of the rest died or got really, REALLY gay. Punk CAN be good as long as it has a purpose. In example: Blink 182: good, has lyrics that are pretty good and UNGODLY ketchy guitar riffs. Greenday:FAN-****ING-TASTIC lyrics!! and guitar parts that set the mood of the lyrics. Sum 41: Bringing guitar skill to the nu-punk(whatever you call it) scene. Most of the old REAL-PUNK bands...but somewhere in there, a bunch of bands cashed in on Greenday's garage-esque appeal. They mostly suck. I REALLY hate all the guys who are trying to project the image that they arent getting a record deal because they aren't in it to project an image...hypocrits. That's music. **** all the rest. If you don't write it, if it doesnt have rhythm, beat, and a good sound, or isn't original in any way, get the **** out! |

HipHop
As much as I have to agree that a lot of what is in hip-hop is crap, I feel I have to defend the genre a little from all these assaults. The music idea itself is not actually crap. Maybe I'm blessed by living in germany, where german is a very good language for rap songs (see 3te Generation, even though that's not hiphop (pre-hiphop era)).
I think the problem is that most people these days are so on the look-out for new genres in the music business, like hyenas. So the second something comes up, they GRAB it, without considering whether they'll be good at it or not. It's new, it's hip, it's a chance to take! All the good hiphop songs are being drowned out by the utter mass of untalented crap out there (not saying the song OOOHWEEE is awfully smart, by the way, I just like it subjectively, not objectively), and it must be very frustrating for the bands that know what they're doing. I've never seen a new genre hit so negatively before. Maybe for once the "we must be bigger, better, faster" mentality is being a little crap - in thinking this, a lot of people forget what DIRECTION they ought to go in. HipHop is scarred. Maybe for life. - TyA |

You're next Dylan! :D But, after all, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, and everyone is entitled to an opinion. For what they are, (Alternative) I like blink and sum, especially sum. But they're new song: killer chords, killer chorues, but the rap! I can't stand it! They shifted from Neo-Punk to the Beastie Boys! No! Not cool! Since everyone else is listing music they don't like, I think I'll do it too. Stuff I don't like: Rap/Hip-Hop/R+B - Well, I don't really have a reason to like it, do I? But I like Gorillaz, I just wish they would lay of the rap... Pop (American) - You know, like boy/girl bands. Some of it is fine. I can't say I hate all pop, though. I've been known to delve into J-pop/rock many a time (Guitar Vader, Shonen Knife, BOA, Cibo Matto). Plus, I like Gorillaz (again). Nu-Metal - Now, I can tolerate it if there isn't any rap. I can see why ppl like the really screamy stuff, but it isn't for me... |

Hm, after some searchying I've found the German rap cd I have, the nice exchange student gave it to me. Lets see, Did Furma, um uhuh... Its actualy good. proably better to not understand the lyrics in rap;)
|
Oh, jesus Morgan, I was kidding around with you....lighten up!
as for me "badgering" you about your musical taste..come on man, stop being so dramatic.... and I must say, Luke, and Dylan, you two have successfully made me laugh..out loud no less! |
Like I said, leave me alone.
|
Well, the almighty god of music taste tells me blink 182 is rife with talent. Oh really? Well instead of the new Anthrax cd, Superhero, I will buy one of theirs instead!(Laughs maniacly) And you know what, out go Primus and Ted Nugent, and Megadeth, hell, I got Sum 41 to listen to! Dude, don't give other people crap about what they like. I am sure you have no appreciation of the Nuge, and you probably didn't know who Ozzy was until he got that, you know, show on MTV, and has just been "off the hook" ever since. I am sure you know all the words to the chorus of Iron Man by know. I am Iron Man, neh. neh. neh neh neh. nehne nehne ne neh neh neh neh neh!!!!
|
Faith no more isn't shit. They do a kick ass cover of War Pigs on the Real Thing, but their true true goods are the Angel Dust and King for a day fool for a lifetime cds. They got all "dark" then. I feel that they have mutured exponentionally with the release of these over looked gems while The Real thing got all the press.(Slap whoa, what happened? You were talking like a dumbass. Heh heh heh heh heh.
|
Well I'm bored so I list all the people I like:
Ben. E King, Bobby Womack, Teddy Pendergrass (my 3 most favourite black singers) The Beatles and solos by Lennon and Harrison, Roy Obinson, Traveling Wilburys (that has Roy Obinson, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Tom Lyn in it), Bill Withers, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Bill Medley, Randy Crawford, B.B King, The Dells, The Drifters(with Ben. E King of course), Simon and Garfunkle, Four Tops, The Platters, The Animals had some good songs, Cat Stevens, Chris Rea, Beethoven, Louis Armstrong. (That's not all of them) Now The stuff I hate: New age music all of it. |
:
And I don't even like rap! ;) Well... unless it's combined with stuff like NewAge (I like some of it, see 'Highland'), and I really avoid most hiphop - though, I repeat, not because it's hiphop, but because it's just bad. - TyA |
I like most of the music I hear in the sense that I don't dislike it. I'll listen to whatever's on the radio, be it the real radio by my bed or the virtual one on PGR. I don't think I've ever heard a song I dislike on the PGR radio (I use the standard one, not customised).
I dislike: No specific generas. I like: Most of the things I hear. |
i like rock, heavy metal, punk, some pop, the moulin rouge soundtrack(which I'm listening to at this very moment)
DI:hmmm.. why do we listen to music anyway? (di- my R.P.G chracter, needs to learn to enjoy himself) |

I'm more of an inderpendent person myself, but these are local Australian bands
1. The Al Jaffas 2. My Dog is a Cat 3. Dimmies but not Forges 4. Crazy Doctor 5. I'm a Liar They're funny sounding bands, but they are actually quite good. Watch out for The Al Jaffas hit "Rollin' down the Steps" |
I have nothing in particular against Blink 182 and Sum 41 (I don't like them, but I don't despise people who do), but I draw the line at describing them as "Alternative"... They are about as mainstream as music can get...
|
:
And on a similar note, I just got back from the "Pop Disaster Tour"! Wicked, wicked concert. What respect I had lost for blink-182 has now been restored. They played 3 versions of "Happy Holidays, You Bastard!" (Morgan knows what I'm talking about): the normal version, a super cheesey slow version, and a way fast punked-out version! And Green Day... well, it truely was the time of my life! *rimshot* I got punched in the face while moshing during "Jaded". It was great! :D |
Searex, you lucky bastard. Ack, but my brother went to the warp tour 2 years ago and earlier this year to a bad religion/ less than jake... Bah, lucky ducks... My brother said there was a little like 8 year old crowd surfing at the BR/ LTJ thing, thats just screwy.
|
I just had to respond to this...You bitches are full of ****ING SHIT.....not all of you but more or less, the most. First of all, you claim that all these types of music sound the same, but you know what? YOU all sound the same...you're repeating each other and focusing on so much shit. Second...you little kids obviously know nothing about hip hop. That shit on the tv? the radio? It SUCKS and its not hip hop. Ja Rule, Jay-Z and all those Cash money Hoes are not hip hop...I don't even know what the **** they are they're just terrible. You have to dig much much deeper to dismiss an entire genre of music like that. Go underground, way underground and you will find some incredible hip hop, that is not only good....(and I really mean it it sounds NOTHING like that other shit) but is very political. Most of the hip hop I have discusses topics you white boys probably don't think about, like terrible conditions in the ghettos, racial reality...and some you do....(anarchy, riots, legalization of weed)..open your eyes. Now that that's over with, how about some positive vibes..In rock I really love Bob Marley, as you can see....At The Drive-In is absolutely great, Nirvana is too, the Hives are the shit, Sparta. I love alot of reggae, but mostly roots. The new reggae is pretty awesome, they are always screaming in crazy accents. In hip hop I like alll the political shit, Dead Prez, The Coup, Dialated Peoples, Swollen Members, Jurrasic 5 etc. Its all good. Oh and another thing, MTV is shit.

I had thought that you were one of the more intelligent and reasonable of the forumers here. Indeed, I plugged you as an ally against the torrents of bollocks we recieve from some of the more moronic members, but maybe I was wrong... This post was arrogant and patronising, as well as totally unprovoked. So what if we don't like exactly the same music as you? You shouldn't take musical taste so personally. As for your accusation that we are ignorant of Hip-Hop: Of course we are. Why should we take the trouble to study in detail something that we just don't think sounds good? Be reasonable, here... How do you expect us to have heard any of the decent Hip-Hop when you say yourself that you have to "dig deep"? The only people who are going to dig deep in a genre are people who already like what they've heard, and since (as you said yourself) all the exposure is given to talentless f*cks with more money than creativity, how do you expect us to have got into it? If you want us to get into the same music as you, don't just hurl abuse at us, since that will just make us think you're a total wanker, and we won't exactly be eager to be like you... Point us in the right direction, instead of just attacking us, okay? And if we still don't like it, just leave us alone, since our taste is none of your f*cking business... |

Dance. Trance. Techno. Electronic. Anything with fake instruments. Some rock. Some abstract shit you hear on Triple J and you never know who the artist is or anything and it sounds totally crap at first until you find youreslf moving to it and thinking what the hell is this anyway!?! Sonic Animation. Scooter. Kylie Minogue. ATC. Brooklyn Bounce. Various Dj's. Teeny bopper chart singles can only be ok if they are completely re-mixed.

I posted this months ago in a thread of the same topic, but here it is again!
All I listen to is music from the 50's 60's and some 70's... but then I like most "old" things. Some of my preferred artists/bands include: The Shirelles Martha Reeves and the Vandellas Ritchie Valens Buddy Holly The Big Bopper Chi-Lites Jan and Dean The Animals Tommy James and the Shondells Beatles John Lennon Blue Oyster Cult Bob Dylan Elvis Presley Creedence Clearwater Revival Doobie Brothers Dionne Warwick Dire Straits Elton John Grass Roots Four Seasons Marvin Gaye The Platters Yardbirds Simon and Garfunkel Rolling Stones The Temptations Ben E. King / The Drifters Dion and the Belmonts The Doors The Moody Blues Neil Diamond ...... And many others. My list is getting profusely long, but you get the idea! I am also going to have to ask that the arguing and flaming come to a cease; I will take drastic action if need be. |
I really only listen to music from Final Fantasy now days. There is such a variety in the music (ranging from classical to even a heavy metal track). Nobuo Uematsu is a brilliant composer, being not only able to capture the theme of the games, but also producing music that is great to listen to on it's own.
I used to be a huge fan of heavy metal music, with my favorite band being Metallica. I sometimes listen to them still, but not as often as I used to (maybe I am getting old). Other than that I don't mind rock and alternative music. Or if a song sounds good (no matter what style it is), I will listen to it. Abe Babe... |
