Worse Problem Of Human Society Today?
 

What do you think is the worst problem of society today or problem that is slowing human progression that can be stopped?

I think it is overpopulation.......

I blame a lot of society's problems on drugs, everybody seem to be on a drug.

No, it is not. The whole human population could live very well if all the resources were distributed equally.

The worse problems of humanity are selfishness, greed, and intolerance.

Overpopulation is a problem because a successful society should only have about 2.5 billion people we are way over this, and this problem will only grow worse.....If resources were distributed equally what would be of this society, this is what are society is based on to run( three sets of classes): High- class, middle clss, and lower class..... Besides resources arent distributed so it is the worst problem.........This is a big problem...

Ignorance.

I think the worst problem would come down to either:

a) Intolerance

b) Lack of foresight

Jealousy and Love. These two are the most awfullest things in the world...and should never have been created or let loose (Pandora's Box theory.)

My thoughts:
1. Ignorance. I don't believe I need to elaborate any on that subject.
2. Censorship. That just really peeves me off. Art/Movies/TV/Music should be appreciated in their original form, not some sort of "clean" version to "protect" people. Damn that FCC. Damn it to Hell!
3. Discrimination (a foot note of ignorance). People aren't supposed to be judged by looks or background. I don't know where along the lines of society that was forgotten...

Nothing wrong with Ignorance, people... If it weren't for Ignorance, I wouldn't win so many arguments here... :D

Bah, I'm such a hypocrit. Everyone can be ignorant at one time or another. I think what I was trying to say was that certain "small-minded attitudes" (is there a fancy word for that?) are really annoying. Why can't be on more than one mind set; why can't they accept other ideals?

And from where did you gather this number? The world is capable of support a population of around 12.537 billion habitants, and we are way below it. I'll backup my data if you backup yours.
The wealthy nations use the overpopulation issue to blame the poor nations, since it's there where demografic explosion occur. what they don't discuss is the fact that this phenomenon is intrinsically conected to the lack of access to education, health and economic programs to the population. The wealthy nations don't want to change that because, this way, the poorest nations will keep suplying them with cheap resources and buying expensive products from the wealthy nations. Truly, there is only a higher class if there is a lower class to compare to. If you are in the first one, the world seems wonderful, but if you are in the second one, things don't look so pleasant. So, let's change our society arrangements. Let's get rid of the diferent classes and promote the equal development of all the comunities as a whole. Let's make the wealthy comunities a little less wealthy (it won't hurt) and make the miserable comunities a a lot of a less miserable.

To conclude, I will reassure my opinion in my first reply to this topic. The worst problems of human society are : selfishness, greed, and intolerance. Get rid of them, and our world will be a paradise to everyone.

Anyways...*is looking over topic so that he can contribute in a way other than spam* I think that I agree with Rachel in the fact that the biggest one is predjudice. I just moved from a very bad part of town (yes the ghetto of Ohio....:fuzemb: ) and right after I left, they had a riot at their high school because they had their very first black homecoming queen. Being biracial, I could not side with anyone (except for my best friend, Tiger [not the golf player] who is black), but I think that if prejudice (I'm gonna spell that differently everytime....) were abolished all together, we would have a hard time disgingushing good from evil. So in a way, it's needed, but I think it would kinda be better if we didn't have it.

And if anyone says "can't live with it, can't live without it", I'm gonna pop a cap in his...it would probably be a little more intimidating if I had access to firearms, first.

We will never have a society were every one is in the same class, it is impossible to distribute this wealth, and overpopulation will only get worse as time goes on, and holding a certain number of people is fine but will those many people be able to operate normally and will the society operate at the greatest effiency.......If technology doesnt keep up with the numbers, well, the future will take its effect.......

morphius, It seems that our views of "progression" are not the same. To me, the future of human kind is not a mathematical or economical matter. It is a moral one. Saying that overpopulation is the worst problem of modern society is an extreme oversimplification of the problem. Overpopulation is a symptom, rather than the cause of the problems.

The way you talk, Morphius, it sounds like you're not including everybody when you talk about "society"and "human progression". Twice you defended that diferent economical classes have to exist in order to our society to run smoothly. Well, I'd personaly like to change that.

Let's take an example of how "selfishness, greed and intolerance" can be a cancer to the world. For about two centuries, Europe depleted the african continent, and destroyed most of its local cultures, leaving it with the lower levels of misery in the world. Let's talk about Internet. There are whole countries in Africa that have less Internet conectinos than my street alone. How can they be included in the technological progression of human kind this way? Should we leave them out of this? IS it even my problem? Or yours? huh? So, of whom is it the problem?

Look at the whole middle-east issue. Americans used to think it was not their problem until the horrible events of 11 sep.

You see, we leave in a global world. The idea that, in order to a group to achieve its goals of developemt, another group have to pay for that, doesn't apply anymore. One wins if all win. That's the main goal from now on.

I'll tell you what will happen to the Earth in a near future: We will go through a planetary ascension, into a world of peace, love and equality. Those who don't adapt to fit this new model, will have to leave. Equality doesn't mean we will all have the same jobs, gadgets, resources or goods. Equality means we will all have the same rights.

Enough with tha random philosophy, let's continue to excrutinize the subject. It's a deep and very interesting one... :)

I think that things will get worse before they get better, but they will get better eventually. I think that things like Pollution and Capitalism will have to get to their worst before people will realise their evilness and turn against them. It is the only way, as people are too stupid to think of the future...

I still stand by the 'Jealousy and Love' theory since they are the main things that will force people to kill themselves/others. This causes a problem for society.

The problem with society is that there is society. People don't deserve to live, and they all should be disposed of. Now, back to building my air-armada of zeppelins and the stockpiling of nuclear weapons.

I think the single, worst invention to society would have to be the television.

HUMAN society? There is no such thing. Humans have so many different socities that its hard to say there is one that all humans class under. In every different part of the world, there are aspects to different degrees. Im sure many of you have not experienced completely different societies than your own....if you have, wonderful, I don't want to hear about it....so I don't think you have the right to say we all fall under something. Sure, people have ignorance and greed and such, but those are inevitable things, problems that will always be there. We should accept human traits not with the idea that they are bad and should be stopped. We are what we are....
What I think is terrible in American society....(this kinda falls under the UK also, but tell me if I'm incorrect)...is the important stress on looks.....de-humanizing women....the importance of tv.....un-accepting of other faiths(which was already said numerous times)...and an uncaring, un-generous (is that a word?) society. In America, and in many other places, I find we have a lack of respect and overal caring for the fellow man. That may seem small on a big level but it complements so many other things. If you go to the Middle East generosity is given to complete strangers....you can even ask to stay in someones house overnight, even a week and they will be alright with it. And people don't abuse this privlige in society....and no one better dare comment on middle east violence....that has nothing to do with what the people are really like. Thats it.

Oh, and whoever said that shit on drugs is a total **** head.

Problems and what I think definitely isn't a problem
 

The worst thing? Idiocy, Hypocrisy and short-sightedness. I have NO problem with Capitalism, but most who practise it are short-sighted, so short-sighted they damage themselves. That's stupid.

I believe in self-preservation as the highest law, and I could be classed an egoist (I directly or indirectly look to get myself happy), I suppose, but so far, I don't think anyone has ever felt offended by my attitude. It's not like I'll hurt people on purpose - it'll backlash on me! YEOWCH! *runs*

I really don't think money is bad. It's just indirect trading, really.

Another thing I can't stand (sometimes, admittedly not always): The media. They tell people a bunch of lies sometimes. I mean, just take the example of Satanism. They portray it as some devil-worshipping, death-metal linked, human-sacraficing religion. It's not. It's a philosophy based on Nietzsche and Anton Szandor LaVey. *sigh!*

And if I'm honest - Christianity as it is today. No offence to anyone, but a lot of Xians don't know their own religion, and those that do sometimes do a good job of pretending they don't - like this priest that visited my house once, who was so proud of himself he wouldn't listen to my arguments at all, and as far as I know, "pride" is a christian sin for catholics or something.

Well, that's just me. I still cry when I'm happy or if something sad happens, like, with real tears. Happens once a week at least. I believe in emotions, and in logic, which is not a contradiction - as nature gave us emotions for a reason, right?

Er, drifting off. The point of the last paragraph: A lot of people seem to think being moody/emotional is a bad thing. Maybe I just live in the wrong region, but that's something that bothers me that I have noticed.

I think blaming it all on "money" really isn't the answer. Greed and pride and these things, they're what make people creative. If you draw an image and you want to be praised for it, you're guilty of both those things. Even if you don't, you still draw a picture to be satisfied (even killing boredom falls under that)... so without greed and pride, we'd probably not get far with society, it would stop evolving.

Well, I thought Capitalism means something like "profit-greed". Even on a level of seeing 'profit' only to do with money, I think that anyone who really wants to make money - like, REALLY - will think twice about destroying resources, or at least put a lot of thought in how these resources can be recycled and such, so there can be MORE of it sold, and thus more money made...

It's the type of greed I refer to.

If you want a form of immortality (the only I see possible is via your genes surviving), you have to make sure the earth is inhabitable for you as an immortal being (even if it's only your children and grandchildren, it's a type of immortality).

That's why I'd say egoism and capitalism have, in their actual pure forms, nothing and nada to do with short-sightedness.
