Harry Potter let's children worship the devil?
I just read an article in "De wekker", a christian magazine about the church, believing, etc. And I saw an article about children in America that worship Satan! Why? They have read the Harry Potter books! They believe in wizardry and join Satans - churches to practice spells there! They say: "Jesus was a weak fool and the bible is a lie!" This makes me very angry! Just look (uhm, look at my personal photo!) at me! I am a Harry Potter fan. But I am not going to join such evil things. But now people say the harry Potter books are evil. All because those stupid children believing in the books and joining Satans churches! There are very much children that do that. This is not good!

What the !!!!!!
|
that's just (certain) christians being totaly idiotic...
when MO's released they'll be saying that MO makes kids be evil because Oddworld isn't real and it has evil characters... i don't belive in witches and magic (not in this world anyway)...but i think it's a pretty interesting thing to have in fantasy books/games/TV shows... the bible probably is mostly a lie considering it's just a way for ancient people to make everyone behave as they see fit...they probably invented god because they wanted a mother-figure to tell them they were doing what they should...then they made the bible (started as storys) to scare people into doing good, negative reinforcement, but ofcourse every intelligent person know that positive reinforcement works best... i'm just rambling now, i'll shut up... i'm not saying it IS a lie, i'm just saying it's very likely that it IS a lie... oh, BTW, just in case you want to research this christian stupidity thing...try http://www.no-god.com/ (funny games, funny hate-mail) as you can see i don't like most religious propaganda...some's just funny though...(see the above link for hilarious hate-mail) [ October 07, 2001: Message edited by: Gluk Schmuck ] [ October 07, 2001: Message edited by: Gluk Schmuck ] |
Oh OH OH!!!! *sees a big fight coming*
They worship Satan just because they´ve read Harry Potter???? Are they ill in their heads? Ok I haven´t read the books but I Harry Potter is a Kook for children and has nothing to do with the devil. That´s so silly! |
I can see or I can translate the article. It's really silly.
|
does anyone here read Harry Potter???
there are several kids my mum childminds who read Harry Potter and they're not evil |
yes...i sense a fight is going to happen too Freaky...
It is a shame that a lot of christian people think things of fantasy are the work of Satan (ie Harry Potter, RPGs, video games etc etc). They seem to think that just because we imagine ourselves being in a different world or reality, we are turning away from 'their' god and I word it that way because I don't really believe in their form of 'god'(as 'god' can assume any shape or form he/she wishes). This does NOT mean I condone Satanism or any of its off-shoots! (BTW...JFYI Wican is NOT Satanism! It is the worship of mother earth herself.) Satanism is the product of poisoned hearts and minds and it practices things that hurt innocent people! |
:
I not belive very in God, but, and I don't think Satan is a good solution... Must I believe in God or Satan? I dunno... I don't belive... |
It's sad what happens. Harry Potter os just a very good book, (I am a fan!) but look what happens now!
|
I have read the whole Harry Potter series and I'm Christian.... and I'm just as religious as I ever was!! How in the bloody heck is reading a fantasy book like that going to inspire children to become Satan worshippers? Harry Potter's a GOOD wizard and his friends are GOOD witches and wizards. Please, they're just making a big deal over nothing.
|
i am saying nothing here, except that this is as stupid as banning crime fiction because it encourages crime...
for details of why i am saying nothing more, see the "kittens..." topic a while back... |
*Gets reminded why Christianity is his least favorite religion*
No offence to Christians, of course. . . It's people like them who give christianity a bad name! Anyway, I've read all avalible HPs, but I don't see very much related to the christianity devil. Oh yeah, if anyone doesn't know, I am a non-religios folk. I don't know or care if any god exists or not, and reccomend people do the same, But I have no problem if anyone chooses to follow a religion. - DH |
I've read Harry Potter and there is nothing about the devil in the books. It's just like the thing with Pokemon (A whole bunch of people were saying it was evil because it used the elements in the game or somthing like that). Witchcraft is just like anything else, there is a darkside and a lightside. But really the Harry Potter books say nothing about the devil or Satan or Hell. People are just over reacting to somthing in an incredibly idiotic manner. http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/.../pmimisamu.gif

Like any religion, Christianity has it's extremists. Look at Reverend Jerry Falwell for example, who blamed the terrorist attacks on gays and abortionists. On the opposite side of the spectrum we have wonderful people like Mother Theresa.
Just like Osama Bin Laden doesn't embody Islam, neither do the morons who try to ban Harry Potter novels embody Christ. |
alright, time for my moronic input whether its worth it to listen or not. i am christian. yes believe it or not i believe in the God Almighty. but its people like this that make me sick. they dont even deserve to be called christians. extremists like that that blame these things on other people or things, should not be allowed to go around and call themselves christian.

Never having read the Harry Potter books before, I don't know the storylines, etc but I can pretty much guess. If I were a kid though I would say that I would definately read them, because I have always loved all stuff fantasy and that. I used to read heaps of books about stuff like that. Even now I love movies about witches and the anti-christ and stuff like that (it' ok, good usually wins anyway... I'm sure it's the same w/ these books).
Some people always tend to give things a label just because they think it is different or it's popular. I found an article on the net somewhere once that said Videogames were Satanic. I read it and not only did I laugh, but I also found a lot of holes and non-facts in the article. I'd post the link here, but it's on my home computer which is getting fixed at the moment. They probably reckon Abe possessing creatures is satanic (i.e. representing devil possession) and that the Xbox is a tool of the Devil. It's a wonder Final Fantasy hasn't been accused yet (maybe it has, I haven't seen it)... it's full of magic, summoning, beasts, sorceresses (FFVIII) and black magic/mages (FFIX/FFX). I even heard of some people that think that all forms of rock music are satanic (well how you you explain Christian Rock bands then???) and that anything that isn't "real" is work of the devil. It's almost like they think kids should not have an imagination. One church reckons that going to the movies or to a disco is bad. I am a Christian myself (in my own way, I don't go to church or anything), but I laugh at this kind of stuff. I think the majority of Christians don't worry about this kind of stuff, but the extreme minority give us a bad name. Abe Babe... [ October 07, 2001: Message edited by: Abe Babe ] |
Harry Potter has nothing to do with satan. I wonder what J.K Rowling thinks?
|
rock music satanic. that sounds like it came from the fifties or something. oh my god abe babe! your evil because you listen to metallica!

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while cuz I usually pretty busy.
I have read that book for lots of times but I am not evil! I'm a normal girl(muslim) and I don't believe in that...'satan' and 'god' stuff because I'm a muslim... BTW: I did nothing about the Osama bin Laden cuz I hate him! That is just not so true! It's a lie about Harry Potter. Sheesh! What are those writers telling about? Puh-lease! I'm not evil at all... |
I saw something like that last night on the christian channel. I find it devil worship because black magic, withces and stuff is against's God's will and is devil worship. And Have you notice, that Harry Potter has some blasemy into it? My english teacher is reading us that crap. We are not 3rd graders! Bwahahahhahahha! LOL. When I first read Harry Potter I noticed that, before I thought it was evil.
|
Well...I don't think Harry Potter is linked to black magic and all that devil stuff. It's just a story filled with imaginations.

(that's not rhetorical, answer it) -- BTW: has Buffy The Vampire Slayer been called evil??? -- ALL of the main characters are good but some of them are witches...does the 'not-evil' cancel out the 'witches'??? |
okay, before people start rambling on about the church of satan and black magik go read about it. you'll learn things like the only existing church of satan has nothing to do with god or satan, but with total narcissism. its founder was Anton LeVey, and he called it satanism so close-minded people wouldn't follow his "religion". And it's not really a religion, it's more of his philoshophy on how humans should act (which is like NATURE intended for us to act). I don't personally follow his train of thought, but i respect him, and the people who follow his work, quite a bit. and as for black magik it's part of a pagan religion that existed before christianity was made up. it's the reason you have christian holiday's on the days that you have them. which is due to the fact that the christian leaders wanted to make it easier for pagans to follow, so they just put all of these major events on the same day as the old pagan ritual days. Easter= Spring celebration, and so on. the catholic church has admited to it, look it up. this is one of the big differences between an orthodox and an unorthodox church, what days the celebrate thier holidays on. i'm not even getting into the harry potter debate, but i didn't want the whole church of satan/black magik bullshit to get out of hand. if you have any questions or comments please contact me via e-mail or a new thread, as i don't want to clutter up this thread with unrelated crap. thank you.
|
*slaps head to gluk's reply* never mind, you don't get what' i'm saying. God did not destroy satan because he wants you too see how powerful God himself truly is. God said it himself that witchcraft is against his will and it's kinda a communication to satan. and us christians can't read stuff like.
What's your problem Conzumah? ![]() |
I think I know why some people are concerned. There are some kids who, because of Rowling's fantastic writing, really start to believe that there's a Harry Potter somewhere in Britain and that they could get accepted to Hogwarts. On one hand it's kind of sad, because their hopes can't be fufilled, but on the other it's nice that kids can survive mass-marketing with their imaginations intact. I'm not kidding either. There was some interview with JK Rowling and she said she would always get letters to Professor Dumbledore (I love that name) with kids begging to be admitted to Hogwarts. When the books first came out a kid in my class swore he had a portal to Hogwarts in his basement and could go through and visit Harry. Personally I like the books, and don't think their evil, but I can see why some people think that. That's my opinion and I'm not going to get involved in the Satan/God thing 'cause I'll just offend more people. But I'll say this: With no evil in the world, with no adversity and hardship, would we be as strong as we are? Without challenges we will spend our lives stagnating (wow that sounded poetic)
|
As of right now i don't have much of a problem. people throwing around terms like black magik and the church of satan when it's painfully obvious that they don't know what these things really are makes me very....edgy. i live in a very christain community and am very much the minority. this makes me more prone to be upset by these things. it's hard to be a southern baptist for 18 years, go off to college and lose my faith, and then come back tot he same town and family who are ALL southern baptists. i get told i'm going to hell almost everyday in some way or another. i say all of that to say this: please try and watch what you say about things like the pagan religions and the church of satan. for all of you who think satanism has anything to do with your GOD or SATAN take a good look at this site: Satanism 101

But if people believe Harry Potter is bad, then let them think that or good. But I was like in elementary and we had to read him.
|
ok. harry potter is not evil because there is magic in it. im a christian too pinky. did you ever read 'the lord of the rings'? there is magic in there too, and it is one of the best selling books of all time! (except for the bible that is). many christians read it.
|
Hey, not all christians are not going to obey God you know and not all of them are going to read the bible or go to heaven. if a christian killed someone, and it was against our religion, would you do it? "You can't say, oh, but he's christian and he did it so i can do it too. I read Harry Potter before I thought it was evil like in elementary. But all that Black magic brings evil spirits to you house. Like what my friend's house, with all those spirits because she messed with that witchcraft and Oujgi boards and psychic things. Me and her were in the house. Her mom had to run some errands. I was like playing and torturing her animals or course :D. She was like up stairs but I think she got out and she said "Have you moved the dresser in front of the bathroom door?" And I was like "Um....nooo." And so we were scared. And we knew it was that witchcraft because when she stopped doing it, and reading about it, she had no spirits anymore, and she had to get her house prayed over. So, you really can't say that Harry Potter is not evil. She read some fantasy related books like that and I think there were some spirits in those books too! LOL
|
how can you have the gaul to say that reading a fantasy book is against christianity? sorry for you non-religious people, but it looks like there is going to be a fight between me and pinky. ignore if you can. i have read many fantasy books. does that mean im not obeying god? NO!!! it really offends me to see extremists like you downsize people who read fantasy books. its just a damn book! it is a persons right to read!! and killing people? i believe that is wrong in any reilgion.

this, my fellow Oddheads, just might be very interesting. unless someone happens to close the thread. i hope not.
![]() One more word of warning, pinkhaired one, speak of black majik one more time like you have ANY clue as to what it is and I am going to be a bit more than upset about it. Just because your preacher and religious influences tell you that X object or X idea has to do with evil doesn't mean it's true (you actually might try and apply that to EVERYTHING they tell you, but...), it just means that they think they have a good grasp on what magik is. you may just end up calling my religion evil one too many times and have an enemy for life. i suggest you read up on a REAL magik site, what it really is before you speak about it. ![]() [ October 12, 2001: Message edited by: Conzumah ] [ October 12, 2001: Message edited by: Conzumah ] |
Joe, over my months of experience in arguing with Pinkhaired, I've noticed something. There is absolutely no point in arguing with her.
You'll have everyone in the entire club on your side with facts and good arguments, while she has questionable "evidence". You make a good point, and she counters it with "What are you talking about?" or "No, YOU'RE ignorant!" or "No, that's not true because it didn't say so in the Bible" She cannot be swayed or convinced or even a TEENY WENNY LITTLE BIT close to even thinking about being convinced that you're right. And she'll still have the moxy to say you're close-minded. You'll give her good evidence and she gives you crap. No matter how hard you push, she won't budge. In that way, I respect her, but that is also her weak point. Of course you could try to have a dignified argument with her. No insults or losing your cool. But that won't happen either, because you will lose your cool. Eventually she will say something like, "Are you okay? You're not making any sense..." when, in fact, SHE'S the one not making sense. I'm getting angry just THINKING about it. So just back off Joe. Before you rip all of your hair out. I think I speak for us all (except Pinkhaired) that whenever there is a disagreement between her and someone else, the someone else is correct. |

sooooo, reading about 'black' magic brings evil spirits into your house...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... oh, BTW, that anacdote up there was really funny, you'd be great on a TV quiz! oh, yeah, you don't happen to draw pictures do you? 'cause the n=bible says you shouldn't do that...now that's stupid commandment if ever i saw one! |
*tisk tisk* you guys are not so bright after all. You got my explanation all backwards. And Daniel, oh, shut up. You are sooo annoying. You act one way on here, but when it's on aol instant or something, you act like nothing happen. Don't play that with me you "T". And Cozmuah, can you get along with anyone here without flaming at everyone all the time? And you call yourself 20 years old, you don't act it, stuff like that would not upset you. Stop getting upset over everything man. And Gluk, are you high today?! Because I don't know what you are talking about.

:) LOL. Not only am I adept at calling myself 20 years old, I'm also very skilled at actually being the age of 20. and as for flaming everyone, I'm just telling you to back off of talking about things you have no clue about, ESPECIALLY when it happens to be a religion. If i told you what I truly thought about your religion i'm fairly sure you wouldn't take very kindly to it.
I'm ending my posting on this thread with a line from Dr. Timothy Leary: "Think for yourself, question authority." :) [ October 12, 2001: Message edited by: Conzumah ] |
hey daniel, what a coincidence that after you said that she does the same thing eh? :D
if thats not what you meant, then tell us what you DID mean!! |
ohhh, that quote would be sooooo good as a sig *drools*, do you know who said it?
BTW: this thread seems to've turned into a religious debate...ahh well... |
