What is the best Platform????
There is:
PC => very nice, it's not only for game GameCube => not avaible now, from Nintendo XBox => not avaible now, from Microsoft, with Munch Oddyssée (yeaaaaaaah) PlayStation2 => From Sony, the best platform at the moment Dreamcast => From Sega, but Sega is dead Nintendo64 => from Nintendo PlayStation1/PSOne => from Sony What's your favorite platform ??? |
I chose my PC over any other console. Think about it - online gaming (for free - most times), we have MODs, and expansion packs. Sweet.
|
You can do that with the XBox to, you know ???
|
i love the pc but xbox has munch's oddysee and some other pretty cool games. right now the main contest seems to be between gamecube and xbox and although i hate microsoft i think xbox looks better.
|
Yes there is on Xbox:
SSX Tricky Rayman M GTA 3 and Oddworld: Munch Oddyssée Munch Exoddus Hand of Odd Squeeq Oddyssée |
I'd say xbox but in the future new ones will be made and they will be better as technology grows :)
|
PC, mainly because I prefer playing games closer to the screen than a console really allows. PC games seem more involving - maybe because of this.
Stupid, but aestheticss make a difference. |
All the consoles offer a true game lover many hours of game bliss. If possible own them all. Without Gamecube you will miss too many top "A" titles.Same with all the systems, you should play the best of the best, don't settle for second best.
XBOX has 15 titles coming in the next year that are must haves, the Gamecube has another 6-7 must haves, and the PS2 another 12 or so, I want them all, if you don't have all the systems you will miss out somewhere. Xavier : Belgium is the best, really, I believe so. I live in Newport beach California now, right on the beach, it's great, but for the most part I prefer Belgium. My Mother is from Belgium, Aalst is the beautiful town, right in-between Gent and Brussels. One of my CG studios will be opening in Brugge this November. By the way everyone, I will be going to the TGS in Japan this October, should be buzzing with news then, being sooo close to the system launch's of Gamecube and XBOX. I'm still debating on Spaceworld in two weeks for the Nintendo news. |
this is a tricky one.
GAMECUBE pros: best kiddy games cons: best kiddy games PSX pros: very good and popular games cons: not fast and is very dark DREAMCAST pros: neato graphics and titles cons: graphics are plastic XBOX pros: best graphics cons: i dont have one!!! |
PS2s the best in the buisness±!!!
|
i agree it is best in the buisiness!
|
i think the PS2 is probably an ace console...but the PSone is less than a 3rd of the price, and so are a lot of the games...
it's all a matter of economics... [ August 11, 2001: Message edited by: Gluk Schmuck ] |
Playstation 2 definitely. I mean, did you SEE all those must-own games at E3??? It's madness! Xbox is going down, baby.
|
Xbox is superior to PS2 in most ways...
most of the Xbox games are going to be better than PS2 because the PS2 is apparently sooooooo hard to program... i'm not saying the PS2 is a bad console...it's just (theoretically) not as good as Xbox... |
Ah ah ah, there is where you are wrong. Ps2 WAS hard to program for. Now developers are getting the hang of it and getting better at it. Currently, ps2 is the most liked console, and Xbox is the most UNliked console. Developers are seeing this, and so they are making more games fo ps2.
And how does the fact that ps2 is harder to program for make the games not as good as Xbox games? Off the top os my head, I can name over 20 awesome ps2 games coming out. Silent Hill 2 MGS2 State of Emergency Devil May Cry Resident Evil Code Veronica: X Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Dead to Rights Time Crisis 2 Grand Theft Auto 3 SSX Tricky Virtua Fighter 4 SNK vs Capcom 2 Timesplitters 2 Final Fantasy X Herdy Gerdy ICO Airblade Tekken 4 Stuntman Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 (Soul Revaver 2 doesn't interest me) Deus Ex Half-Life Dropship Now I know a few of these are coming to Xbox, but why spend $300 on a console that will have a FEW good ps2 games, when I can spend $300 on good games themselves FOR ps2? Now I have a question for you: Can you name over ten good Xbox games? |
Yes:
DOA3 GTA3 Halo Mad Dach Racing Max Payne Medal of honor: Allied Assault Metal Gear Solid X New Legends Oddworld: Munch oddyssée Project Gotham Racing Sillent Hill 2 SSX tricky Tony Hawk's Pro skater 2X Tony Hawk's Pro skater 3 You can chek here . |
DOA3
GTA3 [coming to ps2 first] Halo Mad Dach Racing [I meant GOOD games] Max Payne [ALSO coming to ps2] Medal of honor: Allied Assault [ ALSO coming to ps2 Metal Gear Solid X [Metal Gear Solid X??? What is that????] New Legends Oddworld: Munch oddyssée Project Gotham Racing [Doesn't interest me] Sillent Hill 2 [ps2.] SSX tricky [ditto] Tony Hawk's Pro skater 2X Tony Hawk's Pro skater 3 [Again, coming out for ps2 first] You have a pretty good list here, but only two games on the list interest me, Munch's Oddysee and Halo plus two games that you didn't mention: Project Ego and Jet Grind Radio Future. So together, that's four games and that's not enough to persuade me to pay $300 on a console and nothing else, when I could spend $300 on five great ps2 games. Especially when more than half of the xbox games are coming to ps2 anyway. |
I never thought I'd be saying this, but yesterday my brother and I went halves and bought a PlayStation 2! We only have one game so far, which is Gran Turismo 3 and from what I've seen I'm quite impressed. I wanted to get Onimusha too but they didn't have any copies left.
I'm still going to be getting an Xbox of course, because Munch's Oddysee will be on it. I'm going to reserve my judgement on which one is better until after I have it. I'm just happy that I don't have to be concerned over games being exclusive as now I can get games for either system. And I only had to pay half price! |
Heh, I can't believe you got a PS2 Sydney... considering you said you don't play games too much. I'm not getting my PS2 until Final Fantasy X comes out in Australia... by then they will likely ship with the hard drive so I won't have to buy it extra.
In the meantime I have more than enough games to tide me through on my PSOne. And Xbox really isn't too far away, and there will be hours of playing time on Munch's Oddysee alone. I'd tend to lean towards the Xbox due to the mind blowing graphics that we have seen fromt he movies and the system specifications. Although the PS2 is very impressive also. As with any console though, the early games never show the full capability of a console. Look at any of your early PSOne games, and the graphics are a lot lesser in quality than those on a later PSOne game. Abe Babe... Abe Babe... |

Time to straighten things out here. Life would not be as nice without a PS2 or a Gamecube. I want my top games from both those systems.
As Xavier pointed out with his list above, the XBOX does have many nice games coming.(Hey Munch alone is worth a purchase of the XBOX as far as I'm concerned). Here are a few more and I have played each and everyone of them realtime, along with seeing tons of concepts and having had many conversations with the developers. Kakuto X: Best fighter coming, bar none,it will out do all comers,i've seen footage and concepts, along with a 5 minute spin with an early version, and it already blew all other fighters away. Heavens beast: XBOX exclusive: 3RD person act/adv that is perfect, when you see the details and depth along with gameplay and graphics along with the level of A.I. you will think you are in the year 2007 playing a XBOX 2. 24 Automatons: Lemmings meets Metal gear, beleive me it sounds strange but it is a true next gen game coming in Spring 2002 only on the XBOX.It's a 3rd person act/adv with Lemmings type strategy in a gigantic fantasy world that has to be seen to be believed. Here are some more that I'll point out that are top notch games coming that should not be missed by any true game lover. Panzer Dragoon: Action-roleplaying, that far transends the old versions, backed by the power of XBOX the game is going to be a dream, Ive been given a short run with it,it's no longer on rails and it is all done with major poly counts on all beasts and sets, lighting and shadows all effects are already in top form.No limits, free flowing action and one that would be a pity to miss. Metal Gear X: New version for the XBOX, will be different from the PS2 version.New storyline options and will take advantage of the XBOX powers that be. Well here's some more with a quick discription. Enclave 3rd person act/adv Kleaners (wait till you see it) Orchid Next, next gen, trust me Terminal reality act/adv Project EGO: worth mentioning Malice Platformer Shrek Platformer Azurik 3rd person act/adv Xavier Fox: Will probably be the best game ever made when it hits in Spring of 2002. And plenty more but you get my point,I hope. Don't forget these are just the first year games coming, you get another 4 years or so after these, just think how great those will be. NO ONE can say the XBOX will not have "A" titles, there are many many titles coming. For someone to say that XBOX will not have great titles of it's own is just as idiotic as someone saying that PS2 will have nothing much coming. Get all the systems, and if you cannot afford them all then don't ridicule the one or ones you cannot afford for that reason. They all offer fun and quality, and that's the bottom line. And if I could only get one it would be an XBOX. And this does not mean that the Gamecube and PS2 are lousy, they too are very nice options for tons of fun. I think of it like this in a much smaller way of course: I'd rather have all three, Ferrari, Mansion, and lear jet than just one of them. |
Cool Paramite: here's a link to let you in on Rayman M. Have fun....
http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16338.html |
Marketing hype has barely ever supported a good game. Daikatana, Messiah, Tomb Raider games (ick) and even Black and White all failed to live up to the excitement preceding their release dates.
|
Hey, the fith Tomb Raider game on I-MAC (and P.C) is decent!!! Its packaged with a level editor as an awsome bonus!
|
Woah, Luxo! I don't EVER want to hear "Black and White" in the same sentence as "failed to live up with...". That is an amazing game. Probably one of the top three best games as all time!
|
I believe there was quite a lot of marketing hype behind games like Mario, Zelda, Resident evil games, Crash bandicoot, Sonic,etc,etc.... the last I checked those games did pretty well, did'nt they???
Bottomline is there have been many games that "have" come through with a ton of hype before there release. And yes there have been a few underachievers, that's a no brainer. Yes and Black and White is a game that has lived up to the hype . By the way no one has mentioned Jaxter and Dax or Maximo,Draken 2, and Shadowman -second coming, for the PS2. Those are two fine games with alot to offer coming on the PS2. Like I've said before playing GT3 and ICO on PS2 along with Munch and Halo on XBOX and Mario and Zelda on Gamecube, just a few examples, is the best way to go. In other words get all the systems if possible, how many times do I have to repeat myself. Anyway I've got to get back to Max payne another game hyped to the hilt ,but that has come through. |
:
Black and White is a great game - I just didn't think that it lived up to the colossal hype that it would be a 'gaming revolution.' Populous 1, an earlier Molyneux game I played on my Amiga, still stands out as one of those incredible benchmark games. It was groundbreaking in that it created a genre (God games) like Id did with Wolfenstein and Doom (realtime FPS). Black and White expanded a genre - it didn't define it like marketing said it would. Basically I'm saying that I liked Black and White. I also loved MDK2, but that wasn't groundbreaking - it was just damned fun. :
Besides, each of these has ridden on the success of the original in their series. They would be good games without the hype, since the teams behind these programs know what they're doing (Nintendo - duh, Sonic Team, the Crash guys that bagged Oddworld Inhabitants... :

I believe about 50 games or so that I can say were very much top level in my opinion for there time. That's about 5 great ones a year for the last ten years. I only play about 20-25 games a year out of the hundreds that come out each year.
However with the new generation of games here I can say that there are about 40 games coming in the next 16 months that are very much the real thing. However don't forget that there are over 1000 games coming. So 40 out of over 1000 is less than 4% in total. Talking about "HYPE", here is one in the complete opposite direction "ICO" for PS2 coming in mid September, very litle PR or Hype, but will be a certain hit with word of mouth when it does arrive. Some of you don't want to spend more for an extra system, wait till you read this. Get your piggy banks out, because this product is past the hype,I've given it a test run and it blows away all other 3D technology in the past. It is the real thing and worth every penny. Check it out here: http://www.coremagazine.com/news/4694.php3 Forget about "HYPE" or non-hype, what matters is what you feel and want from you're games, you be the judge. |
Steel Shark...
Have you played the ICO demo? If so, isn't it amazing? I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm afraid I won't have enough money. For my birthday I'm getting Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Devil May Cry. I am saving up, but I don't know what for yet. How is Maximo? I've heard a lot about how amazing it is, but nothing about it itself. I can't find movies anywhere or anything. And I'm also looking forward to Jak and Daxter. I'll probably just end up renting it a couple times like I did with Klonoa 2 (even though I only rented Klonoa 2 once and beat it), as I'm more of an action nut. Also, I was thinking of buying Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but then I remembered that I don't like Resident Evil games due to too much walking around and getting stuck and then realizing that you forgot something earlier on in the game, so you're screwed. Like in Onimusha. I got to the bee lady and I was fighting her and I used all my arrows and hit her a few times with my sword, but I could never beat her. Then I found out that I need the gun to beat her, but I never got the gun, so I was ****ed. I don't like how you have to walk around every square inch of the area pressing X repeatedly to make sure you don't miss anything. And even then, some times you miss stuff. Anyways, have you played the Devil May Cry demo? I haven't. I'm waiting for RE:CVX to come out, just so I can play Devil May Cry. One more thing: Have you played State of Emergency? What's it like? Is it more of a rent game, or more of a buy game? |
Hmmm... $325? It looks very cool, but not $325 cool.
|
Thanks for the link of Rayman M, Steel Shark. Will this game be for PC too?
|
Hi Daniel Brown: Yes ICO is pure "BLISS", no two ways about it. It has such a surreal feel and tons of grace and depth. I have played 2 levels of Ico a few months ago that go far beyond the demo, believe it or not the version I played was even better than the demo. The demo is a beginning portion of the game, very nice as you already know, but the later levels are mouth-watering. It will last you about 60 hours if played to the max with looking over all details,it's worth a purchase because of it's length and most importantly it's overall gameplay options.
Devil may cry is to me a stunner, atotally cool game. Everything any action or horror fan could want. I've played about 2 hours of a demo and am in love with it already. It is everything Resident evil is or was,and more. Free movement,non-linear gameplay, puzzles and action, action and more action, sweet as can be.Onimusha is fine but Devil may cry is on a much higher level,if you like action you will love Devil may cry. By the way don't forget about Herdy gerdy,it's a lot more than most people think as of now, just keep it in mind,it comes out on October 26th. Here's a link to some Maximo news and some screens and even a couple short movies. However thre game is better when in person and while playing, the screens and movies do not do it justice,I've seen it in realtime and it was much better than those screens and movies, but still it's worth a look for you. http://ps2.ign.com/previews/14156.html And in case you missed this, here is some more news for you about Jax and Daxter: http://ps2.ign.com/previews/16447.html And one more link to a look at Maximo, with screens and movies. http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters...374451,00.html Don't forget the actual finished product in realtime is much better than the screens and movies, although the screens and movies will give you a basic feel. And here is a link to 5 more Devil may cry movies for your viewing pleasure, these are the most recent, and will tide you over for awhile, not too much more of a wait, just another couple months,it's getting closer and closer.... http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters...445101,00.html Have fun... |
Cool paramite: yes it is coming for PC as well, don't you just love that limbless Rayman,it's a beautiful world they have created.
|
Yeah I am a big fan of Rayman, I am so happy it will be for PC too. :) Anyway, do you know or there is an official site of Rayman M?
|
