I want Hand of Odd.
I've been a happy chap most of the time but tonight I need to vent how displeased I am with the lack of progress for Hand of Odd.
There are no tycoon/building management games I know of that allow me to commit various atrocities involving slavery, genocide, extinction of animal spieces, and destruction of the surrounding environment. (Anno 2070 does the latter) I am a very tired Glukkon, waiting decades! MAGOG DAMNIT! &%%^@*$ ^$*#^$ *$@*$^#*! |
Ok.
|
So... you like Facebook games, right?
|
You could always play Civilization IV and deforest the world, refuse to build any health-producing buildings, keep the slavery civic well into the modern era, make all other civilizations your vassals or simply eradicate them one by one with superior technology, refuse to adopt any religion, nuke most cities on the map to cause global warming (somehow) and take advantage of all natural resources for profit.
If you find a mod that makes all troops look like sligs, it'd be even better. |
EVP_Glukkon, have you consider writing your own fanfiction about AEHD?
The game is playable online: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=22125 |
When will we be able to finally command Sligs on giant spiders?
|
I couldn't agree more.
|
It'll probably end up a Clash of Clans clone at this rate. If it ever does see the light of day.
Which is a shame because I've wanted an Oddworld themed RTS pretty much since I first got an internet connection and found out HOO was a thing OWI wanted to do. |
I really want hand of odd too tbh. Civ is great but the real worldedness bores me. I super love Civ: Beyond Earth for that reason.
|
yeah i love RTS/management/building games so i really wanted this to come out. it would probably be my favourite Oddworld game because i love the genre so much.
the only other game i really wanted OWI to do was Sligstorm. |
Okay sligstorm is probably the game I wanted more than any other, because I don't see how it could be not freakishly dark. I mean the concept alone was dark. I have no idea what kinda game it'd be, even, but I know the story would likely be the best in the series and would hopefully explore some of the most morbid parts of the world.
What even would the gameplay be like? would it be like some FPS or sidescrolling shooter or..? Would it perhaps not even be a shooter? Would it be a puzzle game like the rest but as a pantsless slig??? Sligstorm has so much potential it drives me crazy. |
Yes, yes, yes to Sligstorm. I've got a soft spot for stories that cast a normally "bad" race as good, and I'm so interested to see what a Slig protagonist would be like, especially one at the absolute bottom of their hierarchy.
Hand of Odd does sound like it would be amazing, from what little I know of it so far. Half sim, half strategy game. Hell yes. |

Sligstorm would've been really cool, yeah. I've always wondered how it would've played too. It probably would've elaborated on Skillya and all too. It's a shame that the idea kind of just faded away.
|
OK, my turn: he may be the first slig uncomfortable with his gender!
|
That's not how sligs work though. The only female slig is the queen AFAIK.
|
I hope Sligstorm is the AEHD equivalent of Alf's Escape. Or at least, comes out a bit later afterwards.
I think it's the next logical step towards a new Oddworld game without changing it too much for newer fans. But saying that, Munch's Exoddus could also work in that regard. |
If sligstorm ends up being AEHD DLC where you just play as a recolored slig I will be so upset.
|
Am I the only one whos still waiting for Oddworld: Slave Circus?

SligStorm could be a great DLC for TzF, they could change the mood of the game just for this DLC and make it dark and gloomy as hell. :
|
Blood Dragon was a standalone release, but I know what you mean.
I think DLC is the best way to go yeah. |
I'd be fine with a DLC (at this point I'm not picky about how OWI releases their games so long as we get some new ones at some point) though I still think it'd be really interesting to get a full-fledged story with a Slig POV. Like I said before, so far Sligs have just been generic, stupid, mass-produced mooks, so it'd be fun to see one that doesn't "fit in" like he should.
As good as the gameplay mechanics of the Oddworld games were (well except for MO, anyway) what drew me in personally was the overarching lore and stories. My experience with SW is a good example of that--I'm normally not a big fan of FPSs, but SW was unique enough to not feel like a generic shoot-em-up, and the underlying plot made me want to keep going to find out what would happen next. Stranger, gruff jerkass that he was, was still a pretty sympathetic character once you learn what he's gone through and I got pretty invested in his plight. After finishing all the Oddworld games, I still have tons of questions about the world and it's denizens, and I'd like to see them answered one day. Anyway that's my opinion. |

Maybe various upgrades to pants or something? Spring loaded pants so he can jump? :P
|
Is Slave Circus an actual thing, or...?
|
STM, so basically it would be like playing Abe with a gun and without the chant.
Alf Shall Rise, it's OWF's nickname. |
Vlam Sligstorm would be so cool, man. if you're just playing as a slig i doubt you're going to have the same limitations you have as playing a slig in AO/AE/whatever, like going through doors. it's an opportunity to expand on the slig universe. maybe you could get different weapons, or pants upgrades like STM mentioned, or visor modifications or something. plus you can still command slogs and talk to shit, maybe make it possible to talk to mudokons and lead them to safety, or get them to help you out. they could change the gamespeak too, don't forget. OWI could do anything with it, including changing the game mechanics of sligs (like making you able to hoist for example). just depends on which direction they want the game to go in.
|
Mechanics based around upgrading and modifying your pants/visor/gun would actually be really cool. Maybe with the addition of scavenging for metal and parts around the barracks to do so? Or you could risk straight-up stealing gear to get better faster, at the risk of dying or getting set back.

Don't think anyone would be too interested in reading about my Glukkon tales. :p |
re:Sligstorm
I have a feeling if the ability to use pants and weapons are present at all in the game it would be very limited since it's an albino slig slated to be culled. Consider this: they probably wouldn't give a slig they deemed defective at birth the proper training and resources they'd have given every other slig. Not to mention, without proper training, our little albino friend would be a very poor shot and might not even know how to work any of the standard slig equipment. That's not to say they can't learn, but I'm pretty sure if Sligstorm was made it wouldn't be just like possessing a slig+. The slig was born, immedately sent to its death because it was albino, yet managed to escape. It doesn't know what's going on just that it needs to find safety. It probably doesn't even know spoken language, much less understand it. Mudokons likely wouldn't be friendly to it because it's a slig, and other sligs know to shoot it on sight or arrest/detain it. Slogs are a toss up because, for all intents and purposes it's still a slig. It's only friends would probably end up being the pests that come in and out of whatever facility this slig is trying to escape. Bonus points, I suppose, if Sligstorm toys with sligs being natural caretakers and it happens to run into a litter of sloggies or ratz or something along the lines. |
He seems in good shape, probably a high-functioning alcoholic:

Obviously they were just so impressed by the unseen endeavors of Sligstorm they lauded him as a security slig after all.
A happy ending :') |

See, it's shit like this that makes me crave Sligstorm. And think about the possibilities for interactions with other creatures in the game. It wouldn't be able to possess anything like Abe can, so any wildlife it does recruit for a puzzle will have been of their own will. There could also be several different "rideable" creatures in the game, and there's a lot of ways they can get creative with the level design and mechanics for a main character that physically can't jump.

Right????
This one gets it. |
I might try to draw that later, actually. D'you think the slig would have a visor, or no?
And I'll try not to chickenscratch this time. |
