Jim Sterling has a Little Abe Figure on his Desk

The fuck is that JAW? You've got some explaining to do.

So yeah. I think they're prototyping a bunch of different Oddworld related merch. And Jim has one of them. I do hope that the figures become a thing though. I'll buy the shit outta a Abe Figure.

Also shitting hell Nep. That image is huge.

Just do it.

Nepsotic 08-22-2015 02:33 AM

It's a screenshot from my phone, I keep forgetting that it's a 2K display.

Alf Shall Rise 08-22-2015 04:02 AM

I'd also buy the shit out of that. That'd be so cool to have.

Varrok 08-22-2015 04:25 AM

Jim who

Jim who

Some guy from the internet

Varrok 08-22-2015 06:12 AM

Oh. Who cares

Nepsotic 08-22-2015 07:12 AM

He's fat, too.

Why would JAW have anything to do with it?

Crashpunk 08-23-2015 12:33 AM

Oh. Who cares

Well. He's a pretty big deal within YouTube and the gaming industry, on the same lines as people like Totalbiscuit. He named New 'N' Tasty one of the best games of 2014 so I'd assume he got quite a few people who have never heard of Oddworld to get the game.

He probably got the Abe statue as a gesture from OWI.

Varrok 08-23-2015 12:42 AM

TotalBiscuit has over 2mln subscribers on yt, with that guy having petty 259,069, I'd still say he's pretty nobody.

Plus I have heard about TB, and I did not about that guy.

Crashpunk 08-23-2015 02:30 AM

He's only really just recently started his solo YouTube channel. He wrote for the Escapist and Polygon for years.

Varrok 08-23-2015 02:34 AM

Wasn't The Escapist that site many people hate?

Crashpunk 08-23-2015 02:49 AM

I dunno. I just knew he wrote for that site for a number of years. It's completely irrelevant regardless.

He left traditional game journalism to become a YouTuber with Patreon funding.

Manco 08-23-2015 06:19 AM

I was being facetious before but yeah, he is a fairly prominent person in the games industry. Quit bein’ a goober about it.

(TB is legit awful tho)

Varrok 08-23-2015 06:41 AM

TB, awful? That's news to me.

Crashpunk 08-23-2015 07:07 AM

TB is fucking amazing. I seriously don't understand all the hate he gets.

Varrok 08-23-2015 07:56 AM

I share CP's opinion completely about that matter.

Manco 08-23-2015 11:33 AM

I don’t give enough of a shit about him to go off-topic to explain it.

Anyway, the figure is nice, looks like exactly the kind of thing I’ve been wanting them to make for a while. I’ll take figures of a Paramite, Scrab, Steef, Slig, Greeter, and Stranger.

Varrok 08-23-2015 11:58 AM

We can make another thread. Color me interested.

No, that's Polygon.

Varrok 08-24-2015 09:24 AM

Isn't that the same thing?

Nepsotic 08-24-2015 12:52 PM

I don't know, I just know Polygon's shit.

enchilado 08-24-2015 02:45 PM

TotalBiscuit? More like TotalArsewipe. Jim Fucking Sterling, Son, on the other hand, is an all-round fab dude.

Xavier 08-25-2015 03:11 AM

I've been following Sterling's work for some years from afar now and I usually agree with what he has to say.

Except that now that he has an Abe statue and I don't. My vision is so clouded with jealousy that I'm not even going to try to defend him in this thread. :p

Varrok 08-25-2015 10:26 AM

Yeah, what an asshole he is!

This reminds me of that time that you told me that following your dream to make videos on Youtube is more courageous, and important than working multiple jobs that you hate to support your family. I'm just saying that I find your ideas about Youtube, and what makes a person important, or "somebody" to be hilarious, and absurd.

Carry on, gentlemen.

I usually do when it comes to games but his stance on GG is disappointing. I much prefer Yahtzee. He's on the right side of the argument.

Varrok 08-25-2015 11:41 AM

Poor, old OANST... It's okay though, I can forgive you your blisful ignorance combined with weak memory (partially because it happened 2 years ago, and I had to refresh my memory as well), instead I'll just post you a link to the discussion you're probably pointing at, where in no way I said any of my dreams revolves around getting money from youtube. They don't. I did defend the people who get money from it, I think I still do.

As I posted this, I realized phrase "old OANST" is kind of redundant

Nepsotic 08-25-2015 02:57 PM

I don't get what's so controversial about the fact that people earn a living on YouTube. What's wrong with people actually enjoying their job?

Crashpunk 08-26-2015 01:33 PM

Because it's not classed as a "real job" to some people. Whatever a "real job" means. It's something new and people can't seem to understand how making videos online can be classed as a job. It's a very close minded way of thinking about it.

People just assume that they make crap videos with very little effort and get payed for it. Whilst hard working people do more and earn little in comparison. Whilst in reality, people who are big YouTubers are actually really hard working, dedicated and actually work more hours than most jobs out there.

It's a stupid argument which only makes you come across as jealous or just petty. The people who are big YouTubers got into it by luck. Sure a lot of it dedication too but and only a small fraction of people actually ever make it big enough to make it their job. So I really don't think it's worth discussing why "it's not a real job".

Also god forbid people actually enjoy their job. I guess that's what a real job is. You need to hate it and resent the world because you have it.

And as for TB. He puts up with so much unneeded crap. yes he has said some controversial things and maybe it's just because you don't like his videos or his sense of humor. But in the past but in no way can you say he's a bad guy. He just tries to make things right within the gaming industry and sheds light on topics which need covering.

I don't get it. Whatever the reason why, I just think he gets way too much hate.

What has TotalBiscuit done exactly to receive all of the hate he gets? I've never seen anything from him so I'm not for him or against him, but I've seen a lot of people complain about him, but never an explanation or reasoning as to why.

Varrok 08-26-2015 02:55 PM

TB is superb, he's rational, looks at problems from different angles, and makes hell lot of valid points.

Varrok 08-27-2015 02:29 AM

Seems like TB and Jim don't fight each other. Case closed, nothing to see here.

Crashpunk 08-27-2015 03:21 AM

TB and Jim are a great team. I love hearing what they have to say about different matters.

Jim was reviews editor for Destructoid for a number of years, and hugely influenced the direction of the site. He went to The Escapist for a year or so, but left for various reasons and went independent, now running The Jimquisition via Patreon.

In certain circles he'll be better known for his podcasts - PodToid, The Podcastle, The Dismal Jesters and Fistshark Marketing are pretty much all fantastic, as is his current games podcast The Podquisition.

Plus, he's in my game.

Back to the matter at hand, I want that figure :v

OANST 08-27-2015 02:06 PM

There's nothing controversial about earning a living from Youtube. You, and Crashpunk completely misconstrued that entire conversation.

But no, it isn't a "real job." Nothing creative is. That doesn't mean that it isn't worth while to do, or that it doesn't take effort, but basically, if you love doing it, it isn't a job. My objection was only ever making Youtubers out to be these great martyrs who are deeply important people, doing the Lord's work, while the rest of us, who took more realistic routes to ensure a home for our children, are told that we lack their bravery. That is what I objected to.

And I never said that Youtubing was your personal dream, Varrok.

Then yeah I pretty much agree with everything there, besides the "if you love doing it, it isn't a job" part. I think it's a job if you're earning money from doing work, no matter what the work is or whether you enjoy it or not.

Vlam 08-27-2015 06:29 PM

OANST is just a liberal.
