I had a spec thread up on the AE remake.... that disappeared... and now I swear I'm seein tumbleweeds in here. What gives guys?

This place has been pretty dead for a long time now.

I think a lot of us are either too busy with life or have literally nothing to talk about. Plus now we also just use Facebook or Twitter, making the forum kinda redundant.

Saying that though, It will pick up after AE remake is shown. :)

Yeah, for the last four years OWF existed primarily as a way for 20 or so friends to trashtalk each other. Now that smartphones and social media are a thing, OWF only exists as a space for people who want to talk about Oddworld. In other words, it's useless.

i like your enthusiasm, but i honestly don't think it will. without sounding like a drama queen, i think the best has gone. we won't ever get this place how it was again. it's ticking over, but there isn't nearly enough influx of new members. at least we can look back and say "yeah, we had a laugh". it's sad to think that way, but i think that's the way it's going to stay.

that makes me sad. i wish this place was alive as much as it used to be. i genuinely miss the old days when people regularly posted and we'd all take the piss out of each other and enjoy it. i miss DI and T-nex, god damn it.

now i'm fucking depressed.

Well for a start, look how outdated this place is. Potential new members come here and see the 10+ year old designs and immediately walk away. That's part of it at least. If you want this place to go back to the way it was I'd suggest starting there.

Google Now gives me updates on threads here on my phone now, in fact that's how I heard about this thread. So in a very round about way, OWF is part of the present.

Which is nice, I like this place. It's like the old basement/community center we all hang out at.

I stopped posting cuz I stopped running new n tasty. Or at least actively running it. I might come back to it in the future, but im preoccupied with other speedrun games atm. Ill be more active when Exxodus is closer to release, as Ill be running that as well.

I still check back to see what people are talking about every few days, and to see if anyone replied to the speedrunning thread.

People don't join forums these days. I think it's just not a thing any more.

Of course people join forums, I'm on another forum that's plenty active, we just haven't helped ourselves get/keep new members, ever, and now it's biting us in the arse.

I think that's a pretty important factor. I reckon (most of us) are being unintentionally hostile towards newbies. Inside jokes and "banter" etc. Not necessarily anyone's fault.

It was though, we've been a lot more accepting as of late but I think that's only due to the dawning that we've actually doomed this forum to die by being cunts.

Inside jokes are more alienating than being dicks. Especially since all our dickishness is one long continuous inside joke. It's an impenetrable culture we have hear, and joining is for newbies like trying to get in on an on-going conversation. Each new welcome thread is someone going "Hey guys! What are we all talking about?" and we carry on as normal and don't even look back when they fail to pick it up instantly.

Vexen seemed to integrate. He was even a bit dickish. Too bad.
