Alf's Escape Discussion
Here's the place to discuss the content of Alf's Escape.
So did you guys spot the special character in the new level? |
You mean Alf?
|
You mean Alf's in there too?
|
Uhhh, no I didn't...
|
I didn't see anyone special.. Unless the Slig drinking at the bar counts..
|
When I got to that bit, I actually chanted, I thought you were supposed to posses that slig, I thought that he would shoot Alf if he walked off.
|

:
EDIT: I guess that whole speech of Alf having his first beer in the desert at the end of AE will have to change now. :p |

|
Somehow I can't imagine Alf holding a bar and not tasting his own merchandise.

My Alf's Escape keeps crashing.. I get a blue screen saying 'An Unknown Error has Occurred' and shuts New n Tasty down completely :S
|
Is it the slig passed out on the ground?
I've only just gotten to Alf but man is this challenging! I love it! That part with the paramites and the saw blades. Foof. I'll come back when ive had a chance to go through it some more but so far im enjoying it a lot. Very challenging :D Also, I played and finished Abes Exoddus on vita today. I was missing like 14 muds and I swear I had gotten them all. I went and watched WarioPunks video to see what I had missed out...and this whole time.. I have been missing a HUGE secret in the game. Its the very very 1st one. Seeing that new area made me flip lol. Its the secret behind the debris. I felt so silly for missing it all my life lol Also, as you fall in the exit area before you finish the game, theres a spot with 3 UXB mines and a bird portal. Is anything there or no? ---- Sorry for going off topic :P |
Im disliking alf already. I cannot get past the massive slig and slog slaughter with abe in the middle. Theres simply not enough time for the possessed slig to turn around and run the other side of abe. Meh. Ps4 turned off.
Edit: It glitched and i got past it :D The slogs AI just stopped where the electric gate is tuned off.. Imma take this opportunity! |

|
Of course i know you checked, it was just insanely difficult
|
I thought that was one of the best parts!
Its really fun on hard. But fucking hell, the deva were right cunts making sligs walk in whilst the slogs are coming. |
This is hard as hard as hell. I essentially paid 10 dollars for it as that was the minimum gift card I could buy to add funds to my wallet, but still worth it. Good so far.
I think a death counter would be a fun thing to add some time, maybe in an AE remake if one gets made. I'd certainly like to see how many times I've fucked up already. ;) |
It was ridiculously good.
The difficulty was arguably the best thing about it, as my main issue with the main game was that I found it too easy. In this one even Quiksave didn't make certain parts easier, such as when the saws chase Alf. It just felt like a proper challenge, with new puzzles that were equally clever to those found in the original. And the environments were amazing. I freakin' loved it. |
So, who is the "secret" character ?
|
It was a pretty tough challenge. I managed to finish the main story without mastering all the full skills needed for Alf's Escape.. I'm also still unsure who this "secret" character is.. If it's in Alf's bar.. Theres literally the drunk slig, and 3 passed out sligs. thats all i can literally see.
|
Same here, this "Secret character" is bugging me
Ps, I found a glitch with the bit with the Sligs and Sligs coming from both sides I found that you can put Abe just one step to the right and you are still able to possess the slig, when the onslaught is happening, sligs who walk in from the left are still able to walk up to the trap door and not spot abe. |
Also, are you, or not, disappointed by the fact that Alf doesn't talk during his escape ?
|
I don't care if anyone says otherwise, but to me Alf's Escape will always take place in Zulag 5. Hardest part was definitely the sligs and slogs mayhem with the security screens. A nightmare. I did manage to get few a few puzzles by somewhat cheating slightly, but apart from that it was a pretty enjoyable experience.
7/10 on the Connell-o-meter. |

I'd do it but I don't have a PS4. :p |
There is Alf's escape walkthrough on Youtube.

1. The special character is indeed one of the passed out sligs. 2. It's the one still at the bar. 3. His skin is actually white. |
|
He was actually he inventor, and the main villain of the quintology

I don't like very or overly difficult games. They make me rage a lot. I obviously don't like to rage but it's pretty hard to keep it under control. Yes I understand why people do like hard games and yes I know the feeling once you beat is so satisfying. But I cannot play a hard game without raging at some point.
On that note. Alf's Escape is the cruelest, evil and difficult piece of DLC I have ever played. Most of it is fine. Pretty hard in places yet very enjoyable. Seeing the Paramite and Scrab in the same sections made the child in me jump for joy. (I've been waiting so long to see that.) Then I came across The Slaughter House. With the big saw... And controlling both Abe and Alf... Holy. shit. I'm not exaggerating when I say this. I literally went ape shit. In fact that's the most I've ever raged at a video game... I understand what I need to do. I was so close at one point, it's just I wasn't quick enough at the end. What really gets me is the saws which are nearly impossible to duck under that requires millisecond timing. Not only that, but you have to time it with Alf's level. After a few attempts I'd admit, It's pretty doable. But I was just so frustrated at the time, I just had to stop my recording. I was that bad. I'm going to return to at a later date. Hopefully I'll do it first time. |
Can't you play it on easy? Does it have difficulty levels?
|
Saws kill you in one shot no matter what difficulty your on? (I think)
Also my problem is the timing. The saw at the top catches up with Alf no matter what I do. |
I think the saws that go really fast is a bad point to this DLC, they are difficult to navigate, but it's not a fair challenge, it's sheer luck you are forced to roll under them, but abe rolls so slow now that it's near impossible to do it when you are taking your time, I think this DLC would have been far better if the saws were slower just to make the package play more fairly.
|
I've got to agree. The saws are stupidly fast. I understand it's meant to be hard but holy shit, it's nearly impossible. I often wonder if I'm I missing a lever to make them slower or something.
|
I'd just like to say I disagree. It's all about getting used to being aware you are in charge of 2 characters. All of the obstacles align to each other and it's just about choosing the time when it's safe to go for both of you. I would say it is a fair challenge. I could understand why some people would struggle a bit first time though.
Also, I'm sure you guys at JAW have already had a few notifications of this, but since downloading Alf's Escape my leaderboard has stopped working again. Same "connection error" problem. And I really didn't notice that "special character". Just looks like another slig to me. |
Even when you are on the way to find Alf, the saws are still near impossible!
|
:
As long as you're quick at the start and only really focus on Abe, the saws aren't much of an issue later on. And we assume when you play Alf DLC that you're already good with timing a roll under the fast saws. There's no trick to them, it's just timing and positioning Abe in the right place. http://i.imgur.com/aVkRefN.gif ;) :
We do have an issue with zero times on the leaderboard though that we're sorting. :
|
Honestly. I'm just butthurt because it's very unforgiving and find it impossible to complete.
It's not the game's fault I suck at it. |
Literally all the gameplay complaints I've heard since the release of NNT sound like timing issues on the players' end
Like for awhile I understood the controls were kind of clunky but watching people play it I have a hard time believing it's the controls at fault because the gameplay seems intentionally heavy anyways |
