New 'n' Tasty Comparison
Hello all Oddlings! I was looking through youtube to find some more video of New 'N' Tasty gameplay and found this video.
Video I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but it is super detailed from every level of the game, it's worth a watch f you are bored or are interested in a detailed comparison video. |
Excellent video, definitely worth 15 minutes out of my day, but that may be because I'm a huge nerd. However, seeing that beta footage has made me shudder, now I remember why I was so pessimistic about the release of this game. That footage really made it seem like they didn't know what direction they were going in. Happy to admit I jumped the gun on this one, though.

Very nice indeed. Seeing how far the game has come is really interesting.
I did the same thing on my channel a while ago. When New 'N' Tasty was first announced. I think I might improve it soon, make a more in depth comparison. |
Where did they get 2014 intro sequence from? I don't remember it from the newest trailers
|
Interesting video. Shows a lot more of New 'n' Tasty than I thought we had seen so far. Thanks!

The game has gone so far since the first preview of the game was shown, it just makes you even more excited after the latest trailer was released. OWI/JAW really pulled the game together this year.
Hopefully it will be soon that we get to experience this bad boy. |
Interesting comparison.
They said in one of the interviews that they entirely rebuilt N'n'T in a different engine after the 2013 version - You can see it clearly at 12:28 of the vid with the comparisons of the Scrabainian Temple bellsong scene. Also: http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1397598040 |
Great video! I'd never seen those old 2013 intro cutscenes before, it's definitely come a long way since then. It's so much more detailed and better lit.
Seeing the original and New n' Tasty compared so effectively, you really see the similarities and differences. New n' Tasty definitely seems brighter and more saturated, with the exception of perhaps Scrabanian temple, which seems the other way round. I think I prefer it darker (especially the moon cutscene), but that's just personal preference I guess. Seeing the stockyards footage got me thinking- in the original, the sky changed from green to deep blue night, but if you backtracked it would change back again due to the pre-rendered screens. I wonder if this is more dynamic in New n' Tasty, so if you progress then backtrack the sky remains dark, or even continues to get darker? |

Here's the link. |
Goofy-looking beta intro sequence - Also Varrok has seen it before 'cause he did a "That's all folks!" parody picture of it after E3 last year.
E: Found it. |
Well the two short 2014 clips were from the latest gameplay trailer, so I dunno.
|
The new one isn't blurry enough.
|
That pipe isn't glowing in the new one, either. Lift your game, Wil.
|
I enjoyed this video quite a bit. It does a superb job showing how close to the original NnT is going to be (except the part in Paramonia with the Slig sleeping that they got wrong :p).
There is a bit of gameplay I did not see before, in the Paramonian temple after the swinging balls. Thanks for sharing :) |
Well I still don't know exactly where did he get improved intro clips from.
|
The comparison looks great !
But I'm also wondering what platforms they will release this game on, my main guess would be they would put New'n'Tasty on Steam, but i think it would also be interesting to see it expand to the Xbox marketplace and/or the ps3 as well. Does anyone already know what this game will be released on ? |
Yes. PS3, PS4, PS VITA, Windows, Mac, Linux, Wii U
|
And they are trying to talk to Microsoft in order to have it on Xbox One also but Microsoft is being absurdly difficult...

Abe falling down the cliff was pretty cartoonish. Abe flying out of the Necrum Mines and landing on the tusks was very cartoonish.
I mean Oddworld is goofy. It always has been. Abe has always been a goofy protagonist. The Sligs and Glukkons in AE were goofy. Munch ran a little too far with it but I don't see any indication that NnT has geared it up. |
I definitely think abe hitting his head while on the conveyor belt was totally serious and had NO intended comedic effect.
|
The more time goes by the more I realise that Lorne's idea of Oddworld is a bit different to the taste left in everyone's mouth by AO.

New Scrabania qnd Paramonia are extremely fabulous with lighting. There was an ugly moment with chanting. The old sparkles are 100% better, than birds-out-of-nowhere.

Exoddus had a little more humor in it, but not a whole lot. It had more focus on the silly LED messages and announcements. The characters were always serious. It wasn't until MO that suddenly everything and everyone seemed to have jumped straight out of a comic book, including the sligs and the Glukkons. |
:
Abe hitting his head comically, Abe falling down the cliff comically, Abe getting the hand scars comically. The Mudokons in general are ridiculous. I mean the very last shot of the game is Abe farting. There's even a fart command. And in Exoddus almost ALL the characters were humourous. Abe continues to be goofy, the Newcaster is having a lot of fun, all the Slig and Glukkon characters were very funny, I mean the cutscenes are full of humour. Munch got it wrong in that it took that humour to very cartoonish levels. The atmosphere was also lot more silly than the previous two. What I've been seeing from New n Tasty is pretty much that same level of Dark Atmosphere/Goofy Humour as Abe's Exoddus. And I only say that because the Sligs represent the more comical Sligs with actual personalities from that game. |
The atmosphere in Abe HD is extremely light, as you may see from trailers. Now I feel not fear, but inner brightness and nature there.

It ain't me! It's that Abe guy!

'V.P. Aslik'
|
|
The only really serious character in the Abe games was Mullock. Everyone else was goofy and funny.
|
Yup Molluck was serious business.
Still I wouldn't mind if they tuned the goofiness a bit down instead of up. |
If they're making N'n'T's atmosphere more like Exoddus, I wonder how he'll be portrayed this time.

yeah, i was thinking about Molluck recently. He doesn't really have a personality in the first game beyond evil businessman.
In one of Nate's interviews with Lorne he seemed to discuss Molluck in depth and I was wondering if they'd make him more of a character in New n Tasty. Not make him goofy like Dripik, Phleg or Aslik but maybe add an extra cutscene or two to develop him a little. Or at least give him a distinctive voice (the Glukkons are a little hard to hear in AO). I mean he IS the big bad of AO (and even in AE he's almost the Glukkon bogeyman) |
