JAW Interview: "I don’t want to release PC and Mac the same day as console"
In this interview Stewart Gilray states that he really doesn't want to release a PC/Mac/Linux version of New 'n' Tasty. Guess that would explain why Playstation has been getting so much love from JAW and OWI lately and the PC platform have been hung out to dry (Munch HD? Where is it?).
While the article (or Gilray) doesn't flat out say the PC version will be intentionally delayed, it's pretty much implied. :
Thief, for instance, is set to release in three days (on all platforms at once) but the console versions for both PS3 and Xbox 360 have been leaked almost a week in advance. PC version? Nowhere to be found through illegal channels. Reason for it leaking this early? Physical copies have to be distributed around the world. Easy to steal a copy and throw the contents online. A month long delay for the PC version of New 'n' Tasty would be complete BS and I thoroughly hope this won't be the case. Steam has established itself as a platform solid enough to combat piracy for the last few years. Please reconsider this idiotic stance on release dates and just release everything at the same time. Thanks! |

Man that's shitty, the only Playstation I have is a Playstation 1, I was kind of bargaining on a Steam release so I could get it ASAP.
|
:
What's interesting is that I recall Lorne having a different opinion on the entire thing. |
This isn't news. JAWs have been talking about this for both the SW and MO HD updates.

Aw man. I was really going to buy 14 steam copies to gift out but my brother got a PS4 so i guess i can still get it at release.
I get that this might be a test for them, release the game a month late to test sales and it being strictly for market research. If it is for that reason then I understand. Because I too know a lot of people who say they will buy it if its good after pirating it, then not buying but loving the game. I mean, they might need the revenue just this once to break into the stream of things. if im making sense here. if not forget this post lol. |
I really hope they don't just cancel the PC port. I've always played AO on PC. If they still do release on PC, I hope the port will be proper, and not like the original port for SW, which was terrible.

I see where Stew is coming from and honestly I don't think one month is such a big deal (says the guy who owns a PS3, I know). |
One month is a fairly long wait. Usually other publishers will delay their PC port by maybe two weeks if not less.
It’s disappointing to hear because it’s yet another example of PC gamers being forced to wait because a developer doesn’t trust them not to pirate everything that isn’t nailed down. This despite the fact that Steam has proved itself to be a very successful platform to publish on. It’s even stranger to hear something like this from a developer who purports to be platform-agnostic. :
|
:
Unfortunately the favoring of one platform is exactly what is happening here with multiple games so far. |
Basicly, there are less people, who own PS, so there are less pirates. But the PS games are as primitive to hack as the PC ones. Plus, there are less potential clients.
It is a turn of pitch-and-toss. There is no sense of delaying, that is a naive cliché. |
PS4 isn't easy to hack. Because it's new.
|
Everything's easy to hack. It's all a matter of time and patience.
|
Let me rephrase myself: PS4 isn't hacked now. It probably still won't be hacked by the time of NnT's release (provided it'll be out this spring)
|
They said, it would be released for PS3.
Edit: I was mistaken. |

|
Huh? I was twice mistaken.
|
It's almost like being right
|
Sorry to be a dick, but I felt that it was appropriate to post this right now.

I had a feeling this would happen. I think OWI and JAW know the value of Steam but maybe the experience with the MO and the SW port have a bad taste in their mouth. It could be as simple as Stew's love of Sony and the Playstation and to give the PS4 that bit more appeal over the XBone? Who knows. Personally. It's only a month and I can wait. I've wanted a reason to get a PS4 anyway.
It could be worse. You could be a Wii U user. :tard: |
I don't own a PS4 so I guess I'll be waiting on the PC version.
|
This game is purely the reason I am buying a PS4 with my annual bonus. I may take interest in others after I have completed New 'n' Tasty multiple times.
|
Oh, I suddenly felt, that all my enthusiasm about NnT is absent. I shall never buy this game, as just a simple remake is not enough to refill a person with spirit.
The graphics and everything else is trully admirable, but constant repetition is arrgh. All that marketing fuss around the game is way too exhausting. Maybe, here I betray the Oddworld, however, however... |
It's not really a game to fall under "simple remake." SW HD was a simple remake. The many versions of SimCity 2000 were simple remakes. This falls under remasterpiece.
|
I'm curious; Will there be a difference in terms of graphical quality or gameplay (or anything at all) between the PS3 and PS4 versions?
|
Graphically yes, but as for everything else, I'd say no.

A game, which was created not by Lorne Lanning is not Oddworld enough.
Oh, is our god (LL) involved there? Then there may be a reason to donate. Really, I do not get that ominous spirit from the screenshots. Now it is like a bright and beautiful fairy tail. |
Yeah because, you know, Lorne is totally capable in this day and age of creating a game all by himself, seriously, go be stupid elsewhere. Lorne has been directly involved with this from the very beginning. Games are developed these days mostly by teams, which not only delivers a better quality product because you have specialists working on a different areas, but it also shortens development time because aspects of the game are all being worked on simultaneously.
|
Firstly Gishy. NnT is not just a simple remake of AO. SWHD and MOHD were simple remakes as they just increased the textures and revamped the models. NnT is a complete reboot made from the ground up. This is the newest Oddworld game since the original SW on Xbox.
:
Stew may be in charge of Just Add Water, but Lorne is in charge of Oddworld. He put his beloved franchise in the hands of Just Add Water because he trusts they'll revive Oddworld to it's original glory. And if you were talking about Lorne actually making the game, Did he ever make the games? i.e. the coding, models and the level design? I know he came up with the world and did the art and voices. |
I don't think he ever was directly involved with the coding of the games, the impression I get is that him and Sherry basicly gave their developers a brief on exactly what they were looking for, and of course the developers had to implement Lanning's art into the game. Like he said, he wanted to tell the story of Oddworld and felt that games were the best media to do that. I'm sure when the other games were developed though that they went through virtually the same process as he is going through with JAW now. Overseeing everything and making sure they are done to this satisfaction. It's not the most tradition form of game development but at the end of the day Lorne went out and got the investment to get it off the ground, so at the end of the day it's that basic notion of employment that you do what your superiors tell you.

One of the benefits of using Unity is that it (theoretically) exports seamlessly to several platforms. The differences will all be cosmetic, although the FPS change could effect some things. NTSC versions of certain PS2 games are better for speedrunning than the PAL releases, because certain things move a little bit faster at 60fps rather than 50. I don't know how much power Unity gives to its users about framerate-dependency, but it hopefully won't even be an issue.
|
I have no arguments to explain my feeling. I have just lost every wish to play it.
↓Spammer, explain your opinion by repdown and a message.↓ |
If you have no arguments, simply don't post anything.

Anyway, I’m guessing that the differences between the PS3 and PS4 version will be based around graphical fidelity – character and environment model detail, polygon counts, texture resolution, the amount of foliage in an area, etc. They’ll probably be trying to push the PS4’s power as much as possible, so I reckon they’ll need to cut back on a few graphical things to keep performance. Judging by how much they pushed that SWHD was a 60fps game, I think they’ll want to continue that. |
:
Not sure how you came to that conclusion but if it mean's that you are no longer interested in Oddworld then I'm sure we would all be glad to hear that. That's all I'm saying on this, I'm not having a spam war and ruining this thread. |
