I do come on the forums every now and then, but when I do I really just don't have a clue about some of the things being put on here, I know you have all been here a while, but all I see is sarcasm and just really weird stuff being posted, I really just thought it was about OddWorld stuff here, so if anyone can just tell me what's going on, that would help.

Oh and I mean everything on here.

Yes, we discuss things other than Oddworld. Yes, people here can be snarky and sarcastic. Because there was so much time without Oddworld news we now spend most of out time talking about things that aren't OW related.

Basically, if you want to discuss Oddworld there is a section devoted to that. If you want to join in the stupid fun then feel free.

This is an unofficial fan forum that's been around for a very, very long time (14-15 years, I think?), and as a result has evolved a strong community, something which a lot of forums lack. It's the reason why it didn't die after OWI stopped producing games in '05... Yeah that also means its harder for outsiders to get into and you have to be the right sort of person to be accepted by the people here, but hey - It'd be a boring place without it.

However it's also still currently the closest thing to an official forum for Oddworld in some ways, so I guess that's what confuses people. And it still serves as that - Anyone is welcome to post exclusively in the Oddworld Discussion and Oddworld Help sections if they don't feel like mingling with the community here.

You are allowed to indulge in the fun you know, Takeshi. You don't have to be serious all the time.

A lot of fan forums talk about things that aren't related to what the forum was made for. Surely everyone would run out of things to say if it was exclusively Oddworld-related? I don't understand your problem?

The reality is that this is an Oddworld Forum, and for the best part of a decade there were no new Oddworld games. If members hadn't started talking about other things, then I doubt the owners would have kept paying the hosting fees.

The place was reduced to ghost town, and then the trolls took over. It's basically Planet of the Apes.

This forum is dead. I miss the old crew.

Many active members between 2007 and 2011. Then many began leaving the forum or logging in even more rarely (as I did). What can I say? I think those are great memories of this forum. And I miss them.

They left for a reason. Survival of the fittest, man.

No, I was talking about the members from the really early era.

The overly nice members were before mine and AIN's time though. The absolute lowest point of the forum is apparently 2006 and we missed that noise.

Everybody in this entire thread. By the way, I didn't even do much searching to find that, any thread from around that time is exactly the same. I have a passionate hatred for anyone who thinks they're important enough to write their name at the end of each post. Yes, we can see who you are, and no, we don't care.

There's probably threads ten times worse than this, but this is just a random one I found. I wish you were more active back then, OANST, to put those happy-go-lucky spergs in their place.

A forum can't just be about only 1 single topic. It needs to expand to form a community with it's members.

I can understand a lot of in-jokes and memes are confusing for newbies, but you just have to live with it. It won't make you a better member if you do learn old in jokes anyway. For a reference, A lot of regular members (Including myself) all joined 2007-2011 and they've made a home here.

Like STM said, just have fun. :)

And as for past members, I do miss a few. Mostly T-Nex though. :(

Every time I look at this thread title I read it as "Cornfused?!"

When I joined I remember being really iffy about signing up because I lurked for years before signing up and remember watching a lot of shit go down and for a short while it was just nothing but rude asses for miles around. Honestly, I'm fine with the current community because while there's still a lot of snark most people got off their cruelty horse.

I'm really not sure if OWI and JAW working on (sort of) new Oddworld junk has anything to do with that.

To be fair, we would have said the same thing about you two or three years ago...

That thread took me back to a happier time in OWF's history. Oddworld had been effectively dead for a few months and people were starting to become snappy, negative, trollish and cliquey. I hadn't even become a super moderator yet, but I'd been around longer than anyone, long enough that even 7 years later the idea of calling 2006 'the really early era' is a massive joke, and I was distraught at the way the community was turning.

But looking back I can see it was small fries compared to today. Look, people having fun with a harmless game on a gaming forum! Don't see that now. The pain the community's evolution caused me then, in retrospect, is so much better than the numbness I have towards this place now. There are a lot of you I like and respect, but the only interesting conversation here now is back in Oddworld Discussion, and even that's so painful and acidic that I don't want to go there.

All of this venting utterly aside, if I see you using a slur against autistic people again I'm giving you a week's ban without hesitation.

Is it really that bad around here right now? I seriously feel like it's improved significantly since I joined, though it will probably never be as upbeat and welcoming as it was way back when. And hey, once they start producing entirely new material, maybe there will be interesting conversation going on once more.

Hopefully the new content also fixes the issue with hostility around here.

I miss when we used to talk about every Oddworld's details in the Q&A thread... I think we discussed everything, can you remember Wil?

They all have great minds! They were all our friends here and they all contributed in making excellent discussions. That is only a thread, you can't use it to judge how OWF was back in 2006. Newbies always used to start threads like that because they are often young people who want to talk about Oddworld!

The current assiness in OT is less assy than it was when I first joined.

OD and FC are also much less friendly, so make of that what you will.

Most of the assiness I see in regards to FC are towards it rather than in it. It gets tiresome looking at an introduction thread of a particularly quirky new member and everyone directing them to FC because they don't like them or it being bashed in casual conversation about the forum and its different zones.

Other than that FC is just quiet.
