Anyone play?
Whatsup you sexy bastards
Anyone play an instrument? (penis doesn't count) I've been playing bass guitar for quite a few years now..I used to be in a band called fingerblasterz..well it was sort of a one man band with many talents. I played the trumpet once and nearly developed an asthma attack..great fun! If so what do you play? |
Kazoo.

What are your favourite bass players? I will invest in a guitar, when the time is appropriate.
|
I play electric guitar and classical. Romance, Baroque, Flamenco, Classical, Rock, Blues and Metal are the genres and periods I frequent the most.
I was also learning to play the chanter - which is the practice instrument for the bagpipes. Unfortunately I hadn't the patience or the inclination to develop a real interest. My father on the other hand, plays regular for a regiment in London. |
:
You will not regret investing in one.. my first guitar was cheap as Hell with a tiny practice amp..and I never looked back.. I own a fender telecaster bass guitar now and it's my baby!!! |
I'm a singer, I sing opera and classical. Although I suppose that doesn't technically count. I also still play piano a bit.
I used to play violin but I was abominable. |
I can get a note out of a didgeridoo, provided it isn't full of spiders.
|
I used to play tenor sax semi-professionally with a local group, just in small venues where everybody was drunk and didn't give a shit - just danced to ska music while they vomited on their own shoes. I currently make no income at all from music, but regardless, I am an amateur guitarist and pianist.
And I'd recommend that as a bass player, you listen to Trevor Dunn. He's a competent electric bass player, and he also applies his technique to double-bass, on which he uses unusual extended techniques involving clothes pegs and serrated bows. If he doesn't make you want to explore your instrument to the nth degree, I don't know what will. |
Oh man, the didgeridoo is fantastic fun to play.
|
I used to play the cardboard tubes inside wrapping-paper like didgeridoos.
|
I play the pe...... Oh ho. You thought ahead.

One of those rare moments when I really am at a loss as to what to say.
|
I have played a few instruments when I was at school but I've never took the time out to learn any. I always thought it would be cool to learn Keyboard and Drums though.
|
I play the guitar

I play the triangle.

I have played and do play several instruments.
To save time, let's just cover the ones I play well: Banjo and accordion. |
I'm a classical flautist in training and jazz saxophonist.
I want a career as a flautist, but I don't know how feasible that is. |
I can play pretty much any woodwind you throw at me, but I'm most proficient playing clarinet
Chromatic instruments like Xylophone and Piano I'm fond of playing Kalimba. It has a nice sound to it. No stringed instruments (harps are the exception) I can not play them to save my life good lord Uhhhh yeah I think that's it. |

I play Bass like a wizard and have been learning guitar in the last few weeks, tomorrow I'm supposed to pick up a Yamaha Pacifica which is a wonderful mid-range EG. I use a great thumping fender Bass amp and a positively ear shredding distortion pedal when I can get it working. I'm by no means fluid with the following but I can carry a tune on thse instruments also: Mandolin Banjo Piano Drum kit and Bongos. I'm seeking some advice from well seasoned musicians right now (tl;dr below) and all of my friends who are such give me dodgy answers so it is up to you guys: As I said I'm on the verge of getting an Electric Guitar in order to make practicing on my own time easier. The instrument I have my eye on is a fairly basic Yamaha with a whammy and a tone knob that pops out change the sound of the bottom two pickups into one. It's also the colour of a bus station bathroom. This is 320$. My other option is a 170/185$ (can't remember exactly) whammyless epihone-looking deal. I played both at length at the shops but I just can't decide, because if I get the cheaper option I can also afford a computer (which I kind of desperately need). The Pacifica has a bit more of a classic rock guitar feel, warbly I guess. The Epihone is a bare-bones metal guitar through and through. tl;dr Since I'm still learning, would the more feature laden Pacifica be a better option, or is the basic Metal-oriented epiphone a better idea? It's totally my decision and there were some others I had my eye on that I might go with, but I'd love some input before I shell out 200-300$. Edit: I'd still like to hear your answers but I realized that since I'm learning through Metal music the latter would probably be the best choice. Also xbox or ps3? this is important too |
I forgot to mention before, you need to get better favourite bassists Git'Im.
e: Also, fucking amazing solo by Bob Mintzer. Seriously. |

No I don't nirvana & metallica are my favorite bands so....
:) |
Don't let your favourite band cloud your judgement of who the best bass player to model yourself around is. I love James Galway as a virtuoso performer, but he's definitely not on top of my list of inspirational flautists.

Gorilla guy from Metallica isn't cool. Despite the fact that Metallica is.

I tried picking up the accordian in the fall but I couldn't find anywhere to practice that didn't seem to bother people, but it's terrific fun to play.
My favourite musician is Buckethead, I just love the whole...thing he does. Something about bluegrass slaughterhouse music is pretty grand to me. But I couldn't say he's my favourite bassist. No, only one man--nay, only one GOD OF FUNK is capable of captivating me. And he is Bootsy Collins. This eighty second video is one of the best resources I had learning to play. |

Nowadays, I'm trying to emulate Yuri Lemeshev. You asked me to learn Mariner's Revenge a few years ago. I'm still trying. |

Surprisingly we have a talented bunch on OWF

Also there isnt such thing as 'the best guitarist' in my opinion.. each to their own. It's like arguing over coca cola and Pepsi. |
Well, Coca Cola is better than Pepsi and also Slash sucks. I don't think anyone has mentioned Slash sucking yet, but let's just get it out of the way: Slash can eat a dick.
|
I would play Vyrien's penis, but it's too small.
I'm so sick it took me two days to think of that. |
I'd love to be able to play drums, but, well. My bodily coordination is about as bad as my sense of rhythm is good. That is, my bodily coordination is terrible.
My fingers aren't long and dexterous enough for me to be very good at piano or guitar, though I did own an electroacoustic guitar for some time, and have a keyboard gathering dust back at my parents' place that I never brought over, because I'd rather have the space for a stand and a proper practice room. I could do basic accompaniment to my singing with my keys at least. Due to my short fingers I've considered taking up ukulele. I'm best with vocals but I'm not especially distinct, so I could probably never make a career out of it. Still good fun though. I guess I got decent voice control, good breath control, and I learned how to pitch myself better during my Music BTEC. Eh, I was good enough to land a role as Madame Thernadier in an amateur production of Les Mis. I was alright at recorder/tin whistle, but that was when I was a little shit. |
I play the PC. In other words, I press buttons and noise comes out.
|
I play Nepsotic's chin. Sort of like bongos.
