Howdy!

Well, I guess this is the place for presentations.

Howdy! I'm Haruka, I am 20 years old and I live in Portugal.

I'm an Oddworld fan for a decade. I met the series at my 10 years old, thanks to an ex-neighbour that was trying out Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee's demo. At first I got a little visually shocked with the ways that Abe could die, but as long as I continued to observe the gameplay, I was interested in the unique gameplay mechanics (Gamespeak, Slig body possession, choosing the destiny of Abe...) and really cool imaginary art behind the characters and backgrounds. Later I started playing the full version for PS1 from the same ex-neighbour, I became a fan. At that same moment I started to appreciate its humour and the story. I managed to get the good ending with the great majority of Mudokons rescued, but I only got after the 99 Mudokons thanks a guide. It made me notice that the game did had secret areas that weren't really easy to figure out alone at first.

An year later I tried out Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, and it is so far my favourite game of the quadrilogy. Much improvements were done when comparing to the previous game, and the Quick Save is a life (and time!) saviour! Saved also the great majority of the Mudokons, and managed after the 300 thanks to a guide.

While my hopes were lost in finding someone owning an Xbox (I only played in one once in my life), last year thanks to the release of the Oddboxx, I managed to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee for the first time. I liked the game, although it is weaker than Exoddus. Its kinda difficult from all sudden trying to explain "what went wrong". I managed to get 97% Quarma. I guess those missing 3% were the warriors that got accidentally killed in mines (while I thought the Quarma only applicated to the Mudokon workers).

Recently, I've been playing for the first time Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (HD)... in PS3. Not on PC because I own an ATi graphic card and I'm experiencing a ridiculous lag on the game, and patches still didn't fix it. I was with fear I wouldn't like the 4th game because of footage I've watched previously (I was really believing it has a TF2 structure), but I was completely wrong after playing 1 hour: its surprisingly good and not really what I was thinking at first. I like the concept of "Modern western landscape", "Litteral-Sheriff VS Outlaws" and "Hunting from fauna-ammo". I still didn't finish the game but I think I'm close to reach Sekto.

I own the Oddboxx for PC (STEAM), the original PS1 games of Oddworld, and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD for PS3. I might consider getting the GBC and GBA games but I'm not quite sure about their quality (Any suggestions?). I admit I watched on YouTube the first GBC game and it is ridiculously short. I also want to get someday the art book of the series in hard cover (Damn, the very limited edition isn't for every wallet!). I want to get Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD for PS3 when it gets released.

I'm very excited for the Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee HD (New 'N' Tasty!), I got amazed by the pre-alpha footage I watched on YouTube. I'll try to get it on release!

Resuming, Oddworld is one of my favourite game series and Abe's Exoddus is one of the best 2D games I've ever had the pleasure to play. My favourite gaming genre is Platforming. My two main favourite games (it is really difficult to just name one) are Croc: Legend of the Gobbos and Rayman 2: The Great Escape. I'm a big fan from both Croc and Rayman game series. I also like the game series of Mario, Worms, Portal, Pokémon and SPORE.

My interests are around gaming, technology and Arts (I'm an Art Student by the way).

Phew, I hope it isn't quite disturbing to have made such a big intro ^^'.

I hope I get along with people around here.

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 05:14 AM

Sounds like you really like Oddworld. There might be a place for you here, somewhere in the corner.

Varrok 10-31-2012 05:38 AM

Fan Corner, in case you didn't understand

Haruka 10-31-2012 05:56 AM

I understood, thanks!

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 06:04 AM

So bright and optimistic. That's unheard of 'round these parts.

Varrok 10-31-2012 06:08 AM

I'm sure she'll assimilate soon

Haruka 10-31-2012 06:24 AM

Is that a bad thing?

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 06:26 AM

Nope.

Haruka 10-31-2012 06:37 AM

By the way, what's the Reputation Power and how does it works?

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 06:40 AM

It measures how cool you are.

Here

Haruka 10-31-2012 06:46 AM

I see now, thanks again!

Ridg3 10-31-2012 06:51 AM

Hello.

STM 10-31-2012 08:29 AM

Welcome, I see you like Croc, that instantly puts you in my good books. ;D

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 08:46 AM

Man, I haven't played Croc in ages. I remember playing the demo for the first one on PS1 long, long ago.

I never did get the full game.

Wings of Fire 10-31-2012 10:35 AM

So, like, what Haruka are you named for?

Steamer_KING 10-31-2012 10:39 AM

Hey Haruka, nice to see someone from Portugal. Where are you exactly from, if ya don't mind?

Varrok 10-31-2012 10:44 AM

(Steamer_KING is secretly a rapist)

Steamer_KING 10-31-2012 11:07 AM

What? Who told you that? I'm not a secretly rapist, just a rapist. Man, the Internet these days...

Varrok 10-31-2012 11:08 AM

Shit, I'm so sorry :(

Mr. Bungle 10-31-2012 11:10 AM

Way to blow his lack of cover.

OANST 10-31-2012 11:10 AM

That wall of text is probably the smartest way to make a welcome thread. I don't have the patience to read it, and then troll you.

AlexFili 10-31-2012 11:19 AM

Glad to meet you. Welcome and have fun. Which reminds me, must remember to play Stranger's Wrath on my PC sometime.

Shit, I'm so sorry :(

It's ok. People won't remembered it after the Rohypnol.

That's nice to know! Croc is awesome, I just have pity to have known back in 2004 that Argonaut went bankrupt. Its sad because the company had plans for a Croc 3 and a Croc Kart for the next-gen consoles (PS2, GameCube, Xbox...). :(

So, like, what Haruka are you named for?

There's no concret reason. Just a random nickname, I've picked up. Friends call me like that.

I prefer to keep it confidencial. ;)

Thanks for the welcomes!

My nickname is a bit random too. It doesn't mean anything, despite the popular belief

Thank you.

Please donate money so Sekto Springs has somewhere to live.

My nickname means something. Actually it doesn't but I like to pretend it does.

Welcome! We aren't used to females around here, we only have Pupbenny.
Try to keep the talk of Oddworld down to a minimum and you won't get in OANST's bad books.

Quite apart from this being complete nonsense: ugh. "Female" as a noun is awkward and dehumanising and makes you sound like a misogynistic geriatric. Is it so hard to say "woman" or "girl"? Or even "female members"?

Varrok 10-31-2012 03:24 PM

He's not used to them enough to call them like that.

STM 10-31-2012 03:41 PM

Who the fuck cares it's a girl any way? Why is that even a point of conversation.

Moving swiftly on.

I didn't realise the company that made Croc went bankrupt, but then I never really researched it. Perhaps they'll get a reboot like Oddworld.

Fucking love those .gifs by the way, Haruka's and Steamer's.

Nepsotic 10-31-2012 03:42 PM

No, don't get me wrong, I like them, they're alright, they're much better than males, but, they're still people and I'm not really used to people. Not really a conversation point, anyway.

Edit: STM Is too speedy.

Both 'woman' and 'girl' imply certain age ranges. 'Female' is widely considered to be acceptable and you're the first person I've ever seen refer to it as dehumanising.

Varrok 11-01-2012 02:24 AM

You can use 'Female' to describe people or animals and with 'Woman/Girl' you can only describe people. I can see why he finds it less humane

There's still prejudice around girl gamers, you know.

Sorry to tell you bad news, but I heard from trustable sources that the person who is currently detaining the copyright is not interested at the moment or is interested in future to continue/revive the series. It disappoints me knowing a lot of people that miss the series on PS1 and wanted to see a HD remake or a sequel.
