Oddworld fan meetup

So I've been chatting to the guys in the office and the guy across the pond who's going to be coming across the pond, and something I would love to make happen at Eurogamer Expo is an Oddworld fan meetup.

So I made this poll happen: http://www.oddworld.com/2012/09/euro...po_fan_meetup/

I'd like to know who can attend. If we can get approximate numbers, we can book an appropriate venue. We're not talking anything fancy: no cosplay, no game playing. We'll probably be talking about a Q&A session, with time left for maybe signings and photos.

So, umm, yeah. You won't have to have tickets to Eurogamer Expo itself, just the ability to show up at whatever close-to-Earl's-Court venue we can get.

DarkHoodness 09-05-2012 10:56 AM

Yeah sure, I'll be there if there's definitely going to be an event.

Crashpunk 09-05-2012 11:17 AM

Well you already know I'm going :)

Also, Would it be okay if I ask you lot and Lorne to sign some stuff? Maybe a Oddworld game?

Bullet Magnet 09-05-2012 12:00 PM

If I wanted Wil's autograph I'd go through his rubbish again.

Wil 09-05-2012 12:42 PM

Yay, Marcus is coming! See you there, Marcus!

MeechMunchie 09-05-2012 01:28 PM

What're the times for this? I've already booked my bus ticket home, it leaves from Victoria at 8:00.

Hulaabeo 09-05-2012 02:14 PM

Cool, would totally go if I lived a continent closer.

JennyGenesis 09-05-2012 02:15 PM

I'd love to come, sadly it will be a busy time for me so I won't be able to attend :(

Bullet Magnet 09-05-2012 02:35 PM

I don't usually get Sundays off, but I'll see what I can do.

enchilado 09-05-2012 03:28 PM

I'll come if you pay for my plane ticket.

Jordan 09-05-2012 03:51 PM

I won't be able to, but hope whoever goes has a blast.

Asmoden 09-05-2012 04:23 PM

I won't be able to come, but I wish I could!:(

Xavier 09-06-2012 03:34 AM

This makes the fact not being able to join even more painfull.
Well have fun guys :D

Havoc 09-06-2012 05:08 AM

I would love to be there, but I'm just checking flight prices and it's just not going to happen. Would cost me no less than €200,- to go there and back on the same day, which is a little more than I am willing to spend on a simple meet up. Sorry :(

Phylum 09-06-2012 05:26 AM

I'll be there in spirit.

MeechMunchie 09-06-2012 08:08 AM

Make sure you collect enough Spooce.

Sorry.

Bullet Magnet 09-06-2012 08:51 AM

I got the day off, now I just need to decide if I really want to see you all in the flesh after all.

STM 09-06-2012 09:32 AM

I can probably make it but I think I'd have to bring along my little brother too, not certain on that second part but it's a likely possibility, hopefully if there's any tickets left I'll be at the expo on the Sunday. What time are you thinking as well because I'll have sixth form on the Monday.

Bullet Magnet 09-06-2012 12:33 PM

I also want to know the time so I can properly plan my lateness.

OANST 09-06-2012 12:59 PM

Wouldn't it be great if Patrick Vykkerz showed up?

Wil 09-06-2012 03:23 PM

Nearly 50 people have said yes in the poll. I think it's safe to say I can go ahead and organize something without the risk of three people showing up.

OANST 09-06-2012 03:26 PM

I voted 32 times.

Varrok 09-07-2012 06:26 AM

I voted 'yes', but then I read the question

Takeshi 09-12-2012 05:07 AM

Wish I lived closer, plus most of the forum knows each other and I dont really know anyone, but would be great to go

dodgysleeper 09-24-2012 01:00 AM

Hi, I have booked a day off and everything to go to the meet up because it said that you don't have to have a ticket to the Eurogamer Expo. I then got a message on my Facebook page saying you do, and its sold out now :( Help?

Hulaabeo 09-24-2012 02:17 AM

Hey guys is this "MudoCon" announced on Facebook at all connected to this? Because you lucky shits are going to meet Lorne Lanning.

Crashpunk 09-24-2012 03:09 AM

Yes it is.

And yes we are lucky. ^_^

Nate 09-24-2012 03:21 AM

According to Facebook:

What time is their presentation scheduled for? I'd like to be able to calculate my likelihood of being awake.

EDIT: As Cloverfield asks in the comments, would it be possible for the recording to be uploaded somewhere for time-delayed viewing?

Havoc 09-24-2012 05:44 AM

I believe its at 3PM local time.

STM 09-24-2012 06:12 AM

Just figured I'd ask, is there an actual Oddworld stand? I can't see any information about Oddworld on the Expo website beyond the talk with Gilray and Lanning.

Yes.

EDIT: Must have been some weird caching issue, because STM's post was not there when I posted this. To answer him, no, there isn't an Oddworld stand. There's a talk at 3-4pm and the fan meetup at 4-6pm.

STM 09-24-2012 09:54 AM

Ah I see, will we know where to meet you for the fan meetup closer to the date? =)

Hi, I have booked a day off and everything to go to the meet up because it said that you don't have to have a ticket to the Eurogamer Expo. I then got a message on my Facebook page saying you do, and its sold out now :( Help?

Actually I wanted to ask this too - Apart from Oddworld, there aren't enough franchises being shown off at Eurogamer which interest me enough to justify buying a ticket (and also 'cause I'm tighter than a nun's chuff, don't earn a lot, and train fare prices are through the roof) - However I was planning to buy one if it turned out that you were holding the meetup at the Eurogamer venue and not outside. If that's the case, it seems I've left it too late now.

So do we need a Eurogamer ticket to attend the fan meetup?

Nepsotic 09-24-2012 10:44 AM

I'm pretty sure you do, and the annoying thing is, I could actually attend this. It's not like I have anything to do, ever.

But you have to have a ticket to Eurogamer? Why? Wasn't it just a little thing that was organized as OW fans would be around there for Eurogamer anyway?

STM 09-24-2012 11:56 AM

You need a guardian over 18 to get into Eurogamer if you're under 16. As it stands I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull off acting as my brother's guardian.

Nepsotic 09-24-2012 12:08 PM

Nah, I'd have someone with me, I don't have a Eurogamer ticket, it's just bollocks that you can't go to the meetup without one.
Bollocks.

dodgysleeper 09-24-2012 01:09 PM

Ummm... it did say in the poll and this original post that you wouldn't have to have a ticket to the meet up... If you do need a ticket, then that would suck major balls. I've been talking about this meet up to everyone I know over excitedly for like a week! Might have to check out ebay or something...

Wil 09-25-2012 03:24 AM

The reason you need a Eurogamer Expo ticket is because this event is being hosted within Earl's Court. The Eurogamer people have been very accommodating and helpful to provide us with a venue when we'd left it so late to organize (which itself is because it only occured to me fairly late on).

The reason we said for the poll that you wouldn't need a ticket is because we hadn't started looking at venues yet, and as far as I was aware there was no chance of it being in Earl's Court. Once we knew there was the possibility, we stopped saying you wouldn't need tickets.

Obviously we've been putting out information in a confusing and misleading way. This is something I need to learn from. I'm very sorry that this has happened at all, and I'm dismayed that so many people won't be able to make it. There is a chance I could find a suitable alternative outside Earl's Court, but it's not that likely even if I can find the time to look between the dozens of other things I need to get done in time for Eurogamer.

DarkHoodness 09-25-2012 04:48 AM

Ah well, that's how it happens and you had your reasons. There'll be other opportunities, other expos, and other fan meetups in future, I'm sure.

Guess that means I'm sitting out of this one, but nobody is missing much by not meeting me in person. :P Those who are attending, make sure you all have fun now, alrighty?

Manco 09-25-2012 08:44 AM

You could always host your own meetup.
