New Guardian Angel

Hey guys, we all know about the guardian angel video from the PSX version of AO, the oddworldinhabitants YouTube channel has released a high quality version of it and it looks gorgeous. So I've embedded the original video and the high quality one uploaded by Oddworld Inhabitants, the thing to notice though, aside from the slight change in the voice is the change of dialogue spoken by the shrink, as he goes in towards Abe, in the original, he says "You need to look within, if you wanna be free" however, in this new video, he says "You need to look within, it's time to confess!"

Can anybody explain the change of dialogue?

Other changes in the new video include the addition of the OWI, PSX, GT and Windows logos at the end and the ESRB Teen logo during the gameplay videos.

ORIGINAL

HIGH QUALITY

If the Windows logo was the pearl and it said late 2012 or early 2013, I would've thought it was an Abe HD commercial.

Hazz-JB 04-24-2012 05:11 PM

That looks pretty good. I'd guess that OWI just re-did the dialogue recently. The "time to confess" line sounds like it's just an aggressive way of shrinks getting information from mudokons, like an over-zealous preist. It's not really relevant to the trailer, maybe they just wanted to give more insight into shrinks.

Nate 04-24-2012 06:10 PM

I'm not convinced that the line is 'time to confess'. I'm not sure what it is saying, but it doesn't sound like 'confess' to me.

I prefer the voice in the original video. Something about the new one grates on me. It's possible that that is the idea, mind you.

Hazz-JB 04-24-2012 06:40 PM

When the new one says "doesn't mean there's no hope" it sounds like a little sister from Bioshock. The old voice is more androgynous.

Bodd T.W. 04-24-2012 07:01 PM

It sounds like the line says "You need to look within, it's time to unflesh," which could explain why Abe is screaming at the end of the commercial.

Sekto Springs 04-24-2012 07:25 PM

I hear a definite "c" sound, so it could be "confess". "Unflesh", while unsettling, is not a word and isn't really in line with the rest of Shrink's dialogue. Whatever it is, I don't know why they'd change the dialogue. "If you wanna be free" kind of sums up the entire game in one sentence.

I'm sure if you ask them, they'll answer. They're usually pretty good about that, provided your question isn't buried in recent comments.

AvengingGibbons 04-24-2012 08:23 PM

It's confusing cause confess should be pronounced with emphasis on the 'fess' sylabol, but the video puts emphasis on 'con'.. it definately sound like confess to me, just not spoken as you'd expect to hear it.

Sekto Springs 04-24-2012 09:10 PM

Syllabic emphasis is pretty commonplace in acting if you want a lineread to seem dramatic.

Varrok 04-24-2012 09:36 PM

The new video is much smoother. But I dislike the redubbing. It have lost some magic imo

Can we just ask Glitch?

Sidewinder Fang 04-24-2012 09:54 PM

I'm not entirely sure it means anything, but it does say not only in the description but the title itself that it's "the original" trailer. I don't whether they're just saying that it's the Shrink advert or another version that didn't make the cut though.

Edit: Just noticed the "new" dialogue doesn't match up with the Shrink's lips, so I'm probably wrong anyway.

Jordan 04-24-2012 10:56 PM

The new shrink's voice sounds less aggressive in the new one, which I kind of like because it makes it seem devoid of emotion. I wonder why it's been changed though?

Hazz-JB 04-24-2012 10:57 PM

Also, the video looks a little out of place in HD, like it's in fast forward. Maybe it was designed for a lower resolution/frame rate, like how cinema still uses 24 frames per second to make films look more um... cinematic.

I've listened to it a few more times now and it might be 'confess'. I couldn't hear the 'c' the first time, as it's partially obliterated by the mechanical noises. But, that said, it might also be non-existent and merely my brain confusing the mechanical noises with the voice.

My first thought was also 'Unflesh', but I rejected that because it made no sense. Not that 'confess' makes any sense in talking about the game either...

I've noticed that it looks like it's running in a faster frame rate, but I think that could be down to the smoother animation given the high quality.

Unflesh would make sense since it looks like he is going to cut up Abe, but all I hear is confess.

I've thought of something.. They had to change the dialogue to get the advert on TV because the tv ppl thought the original was too creepy. The second one seems more relaxed and less likely to make any kids who might be watching tv shit their pants

Dynamithix 04-25-2012 01:22 AM

I didn't even realize at first that they changed the dialogue but damn, that's a really nice quality for the trailer.

I thought it only appeared on demo discs?

Can we just ask Glitch?

Nothing to do with me.

JennyGenesis 04-25-2012 02:45 AM

Anything to do with JAW?

Varrok 04-25-2012 03:13 AM

I figured you should now despite it's not your particular job

Wil 04-25-2012 05:46 AM

We have loads of copies of the Guardian Angel video in various qualities and degrees of completion. They all say ‘It's time to confess!’, and we just uploaded the highest quality one. If you went through our archives you'd never have any idea the line in the game was ‘If you wanna be free.’

Varrok 04-25-2012 06:14 AM

So it was an older version, then

Wil 04-25-2012 07:34 AM

Probably.

Crashpunk 04-25-2012 08:12 AM

Made my day. I want to see more High quality Oddworld cutscenes.

Also i'm surprised this didn't bring up a 'Who is the Guardian Angel and Why wasn't he in the game' discussion.

STM 04-25-2012 08:44 AM

Who is the Guardian Angel and why wasn't he in the game?

Sekto Springs 04-25-2012 09:07 AM

I don't know if 480p can really be counted as "high quality".

JennyGenesis 04-25-2012 09:20 AM

The quality looks way better than it did on the PSX though.

Sekto Springs 04-25-2012 09:28 AM

I guess. I've been watching it in full screen, which negates the crispness it has at it's original size. The frame rate is certainly better though.

OddYouko 04-25-2012 06:55 PM

Nostalgia.

Gosh, I've always loved the Shrink video. So friggin' awesome!

The new one looks great, too! Though I'll stick with the old voice, and line.
Confess doesn't sound quite right to me. Idk.

DarkHoodness 04-25-2012 07:42 PM

Ah but apparently that was the old line, and the one that you're all familiar with is the newest version. :P

Confused yet?

What I wanted to say yesterday is that I'm glad OWI are digging through their old material. It'd be nice if they showed more stuff like that.

Crashpunk 04-28-2012 02:51 AM

I want to see the Japanese advert for Abe a Go Go in full HD, 720p

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Phylum 04-28-2012 02:53 AM

Oh god.

Do it.

DarkHoodness 04-28-2012 04:14 AM

Yes!

Wow, just wow.

Yes, this is definately something we need.

Nepsotic 05-02-2012 08:05 AM

Why does it say "It's time to confess"? It doesn't make much sense, I love that aggressiveness in the voice at the end though, and all the way through the video it sounds more sinister.

JennyGenesis 05-02-2012 08:46 AM

Because it's a shrink, you tend to tell things to shrinks.

Crashpunk 05-02-2012 09:13 AM

In fact, How about JAW remake the Abe A gogo ad for the release of Abe HD? All the team has to dance whilst Stewart is dressed as Abe.

Wings of Fire 05-02-2012 09:15 AM

If it means we get to see Wil dancing then I'm in.

Oh wow......that would be pretty amazing.
How about an Oddworld themed Dance Central game for Kinect? A game in which Stewart Gilray comes into your living room and dances with you.
