Familiar looking creature.

Here's something you all might enjoy. I was playing Space Marine and I saw an enemy that is a spitting image of a Slog. I thought this was an intresting and funny coincidence. It cannot be a copy I don't think since Warhammer is much older then Oddworld.

Sekto Springs 11-24-2011 05:56 PM

Ah yes, Squigs. Nasty little buggers. Takes me back to my days of painting Warhammer figurines.

Really, a lot of creatures look like slogs. I always thought the Shriekers from Tremors also resembled slogs.

Mudokon_Master 11-24-2011 06:10 PM

Wow, even the name partially resembles Slogs. Moreover, Slogs resemble the names of Squigs. Though I've always had a feeling Lorne isn't 100% original.

Didn't we figure out there was an artist in common between Tremors and AO?

Jordan 11-25-2011 01:25 AM

I thought Skags from Borderlands were a lot like Slogs...

Wil 11-25-2011 01:36 AM

Farzad Varahramyan designed some creatures for a Tremors TV series before Tremors 2 came out, but Tremors 2 released in 1996 and Slogs were designed by Steven Olds in 1994/5.

To conclude: coincidence. Slogs are hardly a once-in-a-lifetime design. They're just exaggerated carnivores with no forelimbs.

STM 11-25-2011 05:11 AM

Lol, I never seen the resemblance between squigs and slogs until now. I didn't realise the orks had squigs in 40k though...

I forgotten that I had that opinion until you mentioned it.

I don't really see how, other from the fact that they both remotely look like dogs...

Jordan 12-02-2011 02:02 AM

I wonder why I said that now. I think it was an immediate feeling of familiarity, but now I don't really see the similarity. I think I was confused with that and the bug things being a lot like headcrabs.

I agree. Especially since some of them are big and some are tiny.

My sarcasm meter almost broke from this post.

Anyways, I never really related the general design of Giant-head-with-legs to Oddworld.

moxco 12-03-2011 09:43 PM

That thing also reminds me of a Munch concept.

It's a ravager from WoW.

Crashpunk 12-04-2011 02:10 AM

I think i've seen that before. It looks a bit like a Scrab.

JennyGenesis 12-04-2011 02:17 AM

Definitely more Scrab like instead of Gabbit.

Varrok 12-04-2011 09:35 AM

Definitely a gabbit - just look at this big head with large eyes and a giant foot, it's hard to tell the difference

hedjeroo 12-04-2011 04:36 PM

Haha, funny, I put the Ravager = Scrab thing on my blog about a week ago... I'm shocked it took so long for me to notice. I've been playing WoW since BC, and I've been following the Oddworld series since AO was released on the PSX. And I never noticed.

It's a paramite.

kapteeni13 12-07-2011 07:58 AM

Looks like a Fleech or Paramite...? *Dunno Move* :)

Phylum 12-07-2011 09:53 PM

It's a thing from Tremors, which have already been mentioned here.

Crashpunk 12-08-2011 06:25 AM

How does it look like a Paramite? I cannot see that at all.

Sekto Springs 12-08-2011 09:00 AM

I always thought the Graboids looked more like Meeches. At least in the mouth area.

Varrok 12-08-2011 09:05 PM

Well... he's blue and his nose is small (almost non-existent), and he wears shorts so he is kind of similar :P Can't tell how many fingers he's got from the pic

Sekto Springs 12-08-2011 09:13 PM

Well, they're also both named "Abe".
But beyond the blue skin and big eyes, I never saw much of a similarity. There's even less of a similarity in the original artwork, in which Abe Sapien is far more humanoid than his movie counterpart.

This guy is called Abe! what a rip off :tard:

Jordan 12-11-2011 09:56 AM

Oh my goodness, you're right Chris. It's just like when Dracula copied Twilight!

Sekto Springs 12-11-2011 08:08 PM

Wait. Are you talking to me?

I always assumed Abe was given his name after Lincoln, who freed the slaves. Or would the rest of you have preferred "Monkfish"?

Varrok 12-11-2011 09:10 PM

There was an "Abe" (Abraham) in Bible... No direct mention of sligs though... Still searching...

He didn't free any slaves though. Moses did that, as did Lincoln.

Jordan 12-12-2011 03:17 AM

Apologies, I go more with calling CP Chris cause I've met him irl. I usually just think of you as SS for the time being. ;)

Varrok 12-12-2011 04:56 AM

They say knowing sbd's name is like to have power over him... cool

Wil 12-12-2011 05:03 AM

Abe is obviously named after Homer's dad, what with the 'Odyssey' reference.

Please don't call me CP, I hate it. Call me Punk. I like to be called Punk :tard:

Wil 12-12-2011 08:39 AM

What about WP?

MeechMunchie 12-12-2011 09:24 AM

I call him Crash.

STM 12-12-2011 09:29 AM
