I can't stand desktop icons. On Ubuntu I can find any programme in about half a second by pressing the Super key and typing the first few letters of its name - I assume Windows has something similar?

I like to be able to see my background... well, not so much the current one since it's mostly blank, but usually.

I find desktop icons handy for quick access. But I hate it when there are loads and loads of them. 3 Columns maximum for me.

I don't know why but I love dull/ boring/ dichotomous desktops that insinuate a sort of drab dystopia...for some reason that appeals to me. For example I think Dynamithix has the best desktop atm.

Windows Vista/7 has a search bar in the start menu. As soon as you start typing the name of the program it imidiatly starts searching. The results will constantly update and will appear as a list in the start menu.

The desktop is cool because you don't have to search, but when there's too much it may become a problem.

In Windows 7, they got rid of the quick launch bar so now you simply pin programs onto your task bar via clicking and dragging or right clicking and clicking "pin to task bar".

Because of this, I use my task bar as a place to keep my icons.

The only icon on my desktop is the recycle bin because it can't be pinned to the task bar.

I maximize the size of the recycle bin because huge icons look cleaner and nicer.

The newer versions of Internet Explorer are quite nice. It just took a while to get there.

Indeed they are! I've taken a liking to pictures of wind turbines lately, so they've been my wallpapers too. And yes I have Spiral Knights. I only played it a couple of times though. There are a few on here who also have it!

Indeed, I've got mine set to cycle through pictures every 5 minutes, and at least half of the 80 background pictures are photos of space or CGI stuff like this:

For some reason I always loved pylons, their juxtaposition against natures seems oddly soothing and almost post apocalyptic, like if the world reverted to how it was before man, these iron constructs would always be there to show we existed. But I digress. Pylons - my desktop.
