MO and SW on PlayStation Vita
Good news! Following Sony's E3 press conference, Just Add Water have just tweeted an announcement that Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath will be coming to the PlayStation Vita this holiday season. It will include cross-platform cloud saves, a feature that was demonstrated at E3, allowing gamers to continue their progress while swapping between the Vita and PS3.

just take all of my money sony i don't need it anyway

Cross platform game saves.
Buy same game twice. Sounds good. |
Well I guess this is an interesting reveal. I'm guessing "cross-platform" means PS3 -> PSV, right?
e: maybe I should have read the OP more. Ah well, guess being able to switch between PC/PS/360 would be way too good to be true. |

I hope they'll release at least some Oddworld games for the Xbox 360.
:( |
I honestly doubt it at this point.

Since Munch and Stranger have been announced as remasters for the PS3, it's likely the Vita versions would be ports. Still, who knows? Maybe there'll be a bundle, like if you buy the remastered PS3 Oddboxx, you get access to Vita copies as well? |
When you buy AO and AE on PSN, aren't you able to play them on both PS3 and PSP at will? It would be sensible to have the same syncing with Vita. Also, I wonder if they'll have save syncing added to AO/AE.
In case anyone missed it, Abe HD will also be on the Vita. |
What is a Vita? Or am I being stupid here?
|
It's the new PSP, pretty much.

Finally, a potential solution to the annoying-as-hell overloading of MO's action button:

So, once again:

The Abe's Oddysee remake as been confirmed to appear on PSVita in the foreseeable future - not publicly, but during my exchanged words on the Facebook page: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4uz21w&s=7
|
I've played Abe's Oddysee on a original PSP and its quite good. I can't wait to see the AO remake and even the Xbox games on the Vita
|
Does anybody know if Munch and Stranger will only be available by digital distribution ,or whether or not we will be able to buy a hard copy ?
|
I wouldn't get your hopes up for a digital release.
EDIT: As Max points out in the next post, I meant physical release. Sorry. |
:
|
Digital only? So they will never release a retail game again? Aww, I want physical Oddworld games!
|
Welcome to the "evolution" of gaming.
Ever since Steam, game companies have been trying to turn games into a service instead of a product. In the next 5-10 years, companies hope to phase out physical game releases entirely so they can make you pay a monthly subscription to keep playing. It sucks, but c'est la vie. |
It couldn't hurt them to release it retail? I would think fans would love physical copies.
|
Well they'd have to pay for the production and distribution of those physical copies, meaning they'd be vastly more expensive. Or they could go with a publisher to do that and take a huge cut in profits, and the product would still be more expensive. Plus, we're all familiar with OWI's experience with publishers.
|
yeah they should make them retail and waste a bunch of plastic and paper so we can play our video games.
|
You have the wrong idea. They should do all that and charge more so that we can have a physical copy to waste space on.
|
i think psp go showed everybody why digital download only was a bad idea. Sure Apps are hugely succesful but thats only because theyre cheap. I personally would never spend 20-40 pound on a digital copy of a game :-/ Oddworld needs to realize that digital downloads are ok but gaming is stil truly in the era of physical media.
|
Are you fucking kidding? There's more money in digital distribution that physical releases. I'd say it was the future of gaming, but it's really the present.
|
:
Digital Download has already won the 'media wars' (so to speak). Billions of dollars of revenue are pouring through Steam alone every year. Last year, $4 Billion dollars was spent on digital downloads - a number which is growing every year whilst at the same time brick-and-mortar stores are closing down with unsurprising regularity. |
True, but I think many consumers are yet to be convinced about downloads. I don't think the problem is down to people wanting a physical copy as opposed to digital, but that many people don't yet have confidence in the digital system.
One thing I definitely don't like is that when you download digital software, you do not own a copy, rather you pay for a licence to use it. Fair enough, but with the PSN you get 5 copies before you need to pay again- and I have friends on their fifth PS3s. With a physical retail copy, you actually own something, and since you can use the disk as much as you want, theres no risk of losing what you have bought (well, except for actually losing it but you know what i mean :p) I personally would rather have a retail copy, but I do recognise the benefits of the digital medium. I just don't like that faults outside of my control could result in me losing what I paid for! |
no phylum im not "fucking kidding" you, i respect the fact that for music, computers and phones that it may be the era of digital download but for console it truly isnt. . If digital downloads were best then companies like sony , nintendo and microsoft wouldnt still be using physical media. and most of these companies have made it clear that they will continue to use physical media for years to come. I respect the steam argument however thats really only for computers ,where games are a lot cheaper in comparison to consoles and I believe (correct me if im wrong) that most games available on Steam are/were available at some time or another on a physical disc, etc. But until downloads are cheaper and much much quicker then i just dont believe that digital download only methods of distribution are going to be a better option to the consumer on consoles.
im not completly anti-download ,I just believe that at the present digital download only for consoles would be a big mistake and that if there going to survive and do well then consoles need discs, etc. The same goes for Oddworld, if they want it to be a big name again then they need to release on discs. |
There is an easy solution for all of this: just put everything on PC!!!
one day......:( |
PC-to-TV streaming technology is advancing rapidly, so it's only a matter of time before consoles are rendered obsolete...
