Fast Food

Thaaaaaaaaaaaat's right! Do you enjoy ingesting irreducibly inconvertible igneous-enhanced Milkshakes? Ever drowned your sorrows in a literal bathtub full of McDoubles? Ever even looked at Supreme Fries from Taco Bell? Then post about it here!
What do you prefer? Is fast food all the same to you, or do you understand the important distinction in flavour from restaurant to restaurant?

I like McDonalds. I really damn do. Not in large quantities, but the aforementioned McDouble is a work of culinary art, hoo yeah.

Vegetarians can post too

Daxter King 05-17-2011 04:08 PM

McDonalds is one of the better ones, for flavor. Their burgers and fries are better than both Wendy's and Burger King. They don't touch Whataburger though, but since McDonalds is more convenient I go their more often. They recently opened up an In N Out near me, gonna check that out pretty soon.

Ridg3 05-17-2011 04:24 PM

I like spit in my burgers too.

enchilado 05-17-2011 05:04 PM

I've not really eaten fast food before. I don't live anywhere near a fast food place and I'm vegetarian, so I can't/wouldn't eat most things anyway.

Mr. Bungle 05-17-2011 05:29 PM

McDonald's is fucking disgusting yet fucking delicious. However, I choose not to eat it often, like, at all. It's good, though.

My favourite is probably Harvey's, but A&W is great, too.

DarkHoodness 05-17-2011 06:55 PM

{insert rant here about how evil and harmful to the environment fast food is}

Actually do Pizzas count? It's been too long since I had Pappa Johns... Mmm. Hand made pizzas to order pisses all over Domino's. Domino's Pizzas taste like frozen supermarket pizza that they've heated in their oven and charged you £8 for.

Strike Witch 05-17-2011 07:32 PM

Singaporean Burger King. So good, I can't eat local fast food anymore.

Gwan-Thwei 05-17-2011 07:37 PM

Sonic has the best tater tots, hands down.
Artic Circle has great ice cream/shakes

And this last one is really a resturant, but whatever.
the eatery was called "A Taste of Thai", which served Thailand food. I got the coconut milk soup, which sucked balls because it had mushrooms and lemon grass. Which is normally good, but not with coconut milk. Anyway, I ordered a Chai tea...
And it was amazing. It was sweet and thick and cold and perfect. Though the glass was about a liter full, I drank the whole damn thing.
They closed the restaurant a few months later, but I will always remember that drink.

enchilado 05-17-2011 07:41 PM

which served Thailand food

Things from Thailand are "Thailandish".

THAI

hedjeroo 05-18-2011 12:50 AM

Sonic is awesome. I wish Sonic was in the UK.

I don't indulge in fast food too often due to money. McDonalds is an occasional treat, even rarer is KFC. Also the Double Down was overhyped.

If takeaways count, then a little more frequently I guess. There's a good chippy and a good Chinese pretty much round the corner from my uni house, and before the end of the semester it was pretty regular to go to the chippy up the road before heading to uni on a Wednesday afternoon.

STM 05-18-2011 01:08 AM

Eh, do protein shakes count? I drink a lot of those to build muscle.

Then again I do enjoy Wimpy's and the odd KFC/ McDonalds.

Ridg3 05-18-2011 01:42 AM

I had a protein shake this morning. After watching porn.

Subway anyone? I fucking love that place and I always get the same thing every time I'm in there. A foot long, steak and cheese on Italian herbs and cheese bread with lettuce, green peppers, red onions and jalapeno's. It's fucking lovely.

Dixanadu 05-18-2011 01:46 AM

Yeah, Subway is beast. Nothing like pointing at a load of tasty looking grub and throwing it between two bits of bread.

I used to binge at McDonalds a lot, but it's seemed to have gone out of taste with me.

KFC is pretty damn nice, too. As is Bridies, your typical chipshop.

Ridg3 05-18-2011 01:50 AM

The chips are nothing special from Bridies until you lace it with salt and vinegar, then it really comes alive in your mouth.

Nate 05-18-2011 02:58 AM

I grew up keeping kosher, so fast food was not an option for me. I'm also a vegetarian, so even now the options are rather limited. I've eaten McDonalds fries once in my life and they tasted like crap, so I'm not gonna bother with that again.

Takeaways are a different matter. I eat them whenever I'm staying late at uni. At home I always cook.

Havoc 05-18-2011 03:37 AM

You guys should watch a documentary called Supersize Me. It gives a very scary look into what fast food does with your body. I didn't eat fast food for like a week after watching it.

Having said that, I probably eat way to much of the stuff than I should. I like Mcdonalds, I like Burger King and any other kind of fast food. Mcdonalds has the best fries and shakes while Burger King has the best burgers (better taste).

Aside from fried junk, I'm also a big fan of pizza. I order a lot of New York Pizza. I mean a LOT.

I've also got this genuine Italian guy downtown who makes genuine Italian pizza's which are like 10.000 times better than the American junk most people call pizza's these days. His pizza's are fresh and actually healthy, which is a very big plus.

Wil 05-18-2011 05:20 AM

Once I learnt about the terrible things the big fast food companies do, I stopped eating there except for a) grudgingly when everyone else was (this happened at OddTour 2), and b) when I'd finished spending two weeks in the forests of Thailand and goddamn needed familiar, fatty, proteinous food.

Since I became vegan, I've never eaten in one of those places. Eating out is a pain in the arse as it is, and fast food restaurants are the least likely to give a shit about catering to me. That said, London has/had a couple of places:

On OddTour 3 (I don't want to keep bragging about how many OddTours I've been on, but they just happen to be to context of everything I'm saying) I sought out a dinky but awesome place called Red Veg, which I'd heard about a couple of years beforehand. I ate there with Peter, Nathan and Charlie.

Then on OddTour 4, I found that Red Veg had closed down so I had to look for other places in an Internet Cafe. Turns out there was a new place called Otarian, where I went with Dripik, only getting lost a tiny bit on the way.

Havoc 05-18-2011 05:27 AM

Called? Called what?! Don't leave us in suspense!!

Dynamithix 05-18-2011 05:33 AM

Yeah, tell us!

Nate 05-18-2011 05:48 AM

Red Veg wasn't fast food though.

Or perhaps that could be a question; I personally define 'Fast Food' as referring to franchises with centralised, factory-produced food that is only cooked (but not otherwise prepared) onsite. Anyone want to provide a different definition?

Hazel-Rah 05-18-2011 06:16 AM

Fast food is great comfort food and it is an instinct from our hunter-gatherer days to ingest as many calories as possible so stop trying to replace our French fries with apple slices...

My favorite fast food place is White Castle and lol @ Daxter King for thinking having a Jack in the Box compensates for not having a White Castle :p

Havoc 05-18-2011 06:17 AM

My absolute favorite fast food place by far is Pizza Hut. Why we only have 2 of them in the entire country is completely beyond me, though.

Wings of Fire 05-18-2011 06:20 AM

I like dominos, but only the barbeque base pizzas.

I also like subway and McDonalds, and I'll eat Burger King and KFC if I have to.

I doubt anyone here eats it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Every now and then, there is no real problem with it.

Havoc 05-18-2011 06:28 AM

It puts in contrast though. You can eat a healthy sandwich for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you won't get the same results by far.

Rex Tirano 05-18-2011 06:31 AM

Dominoes is my favourite. ^_^ It's just so expensive...

And Subway sucks. I worked there for a while last year and all of the food is frozen and processed and alot of the meat is reformed meat. But this might just come from eating subways 5 times a week for several months....

I eat too many takeaways. Especially at the moment, because it's the exam period. All I want to do after a revision session is eat some fatty food and vegetate.

Speaking of fast food, I just turned on the deep fryer because I don't feel like doing any extensive cooking. Yay for Dutch deep frying snacks.

I'm not clear on the definition. I've seen Nando's called fast food, but is it bollocks. But you know what I mean. Red Veg serves the same genre of meals as McD's, Burger King, etc.

Hazel-Rah 05-18-2011 06:40 AM

there's such a thing as "quick food"

Rex Tirano 05-18-2011 06:44 AM

Speaking of Vegan food, have you ever tried El Piano, Maxy? They're vegan and when I went there the food's delicious. Omnomnom.

Wil 05-18-2011 07:10 AM

I haven't, but I'll give them a try if I find myself in York. :D

Dixanadu 05-18-2011 07:17 AM

There was a fast food place in the city which was very nice until it burnt down years ago, probably some kitchen related goof.

The name was a tongue twister. Abrakabra something, fuck, I can't remember. It probably still has stores around.

I find the nicest things in obscure fast food outlets.

Like Wheelers!

Dynamithix 05-18-2011 07:20 AM

I don't like McDonald's but I do eat there occasionally.

Are you sure it wasn't Katayas?

Dixanadu 05-18-2011 08:26 AM

No, I distinctly remember it happened two days after starting that programme at Joblink after I left school. It was where Rockets is now.

Ridg3 05-18-2011 08:38 AM

Abrakebabra?

Manco 05-18-2011 11:16 AM

I enjoy fast food, and I'm lucky enough to have a fast metabolism.

McDonald's is okay, but personally I prefer Burger King's burgers - problem is McD's is far, far cheaper.

KFC is good every once in a while, but there aren't any close by where I live, so they're usually reserved for days out and such. Same goes for Subway.

If local takeaways count as fast food, though, I'm spoiled - great Chinese and a great Indian (who also do pizzas and just about everything else under the sun).

For some reason, pizza takeaways just never do it for me, with the exception of the Indian mentioned above - Domino's and Pizza Hut just don't taste right.

Also, I am a heartless person and don't get fazed by where my food comes from or what it does to my body. Tastes good, man.

Mr. Bungle 05-18-2011 12:14 PM

Ugh, I ate McDonald's for the first time in months today. Feels bad, man. The afteraste is awful. But I was hungry, and my mom was in a rush, so I couldn't have Subway.

Subway is the best fast food, I think. Meatball subs are amazing.

Havoc 05-18-2011 12:21 PM

Wait, you eat at Mcdonalds because you're hungry?
