A question about a new Abe game ...

I just wanted to ask your thoughts on this ...

What would you prefer to see?

A new game is an option? Well then Mr. Gilray, I would vote a new game. I love the whole HD remake and 2.5D platformer ideas but new blood is what the series needs right?

Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Abe steps into the Spoocum Hop accelerator and vanishes. He awakes to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that are not his own and is driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Alf, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a Weirdo Spirit that only Abe can see and hear. And so Abe finds himself hopping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and praying each time that his next hop will be the hop home.

Divine Comedy inspiration?

I think an Oddworld platformer would be excellent though, I know not the story line but if it was the same graphical intensity I would squee. My brother an I were actually conversing about this just yesterday while playing Return to the Stockyards (AO) on the good 'ol PS1

Hell, I'd like to see a new Munch game in the vein of the old Abe platformers.

A 3D platform puzzler that works better than Munch's Oddysee would sure be nice.

EDIT: I should add that while I'd like a totally new game, I'm not opposed to also seeing remakes.

Gilrod, please make a new Abe game in 2.5D! Please... I really enjoy platformer games, and best games in Oddworld were platformers. Do this for me, and for many more customers which love Oddworld particularly because of Oddysee and Exoddus!

Yeah I'm not really down with the remake. Since we already had both ps1 games on the psn store, the oddbox, and a soon to be release stranger wrath. A new game would be better....or a movie :D

Gilrod, I have an idea ... of course I would love a remake of Abe's Oddysee, but with new objects, a little longer and harder than the original and most mudokons to save that 99 of the original (eg In Super Mario 64 DS instead of the 120 stars that had the original N64 game added 30 more)

One of the philosophies of Oddworld was state-of-the-art storytelling using great art and graphics, pushing the limits of the day. I don't think that philosophy would be served with a new 2D or 2.5D game, however much we enjoyed them. I wouldn't mind remastered editions of the old guard, but I think Abe can go new places.

New game please! Also please no time travel in it. Sorry, but I hate stories with time travel, as they ALWAYS end up with various contradictions/stuff that simply don't make no sense, logically speaking.

I'd like a new game. I love the originals and they don't need to be re-touched. :D

I know that a lot of people have gotten the impression (correct or not) that with Abe HD and the PS3 Stranger coming out, the whole series so far may be getting the 'new 'n' shiny' treatment.

I have to admit, in a way this could act like a reboot of Oddworld. It's been so long since the last game, particularly for people who never had the chance to play Munch and Stranger first time round. Furthermore, as we are aware, there have been many problems with publishers etc. Maybe It would be best to effectively begin the franchise again, starting with the original games in HD before moving on to a fully fledged new title?

I honestly would not mind either a remake or a new game. I would assume that a new game would follow the remake(s) eventually, after all ;)

If at all possible I as a fan, and also from a bussiness perspective, would like to see the franchise relaunched, actually. Combine Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus into one game as a sort of backstory for the new games you can release after that.

However if you guys are set on just doing one game at a time I'd prefer to see Abe's Exoddus, simply because it had more locations, more interaction and more features like Glukkon voice locks and stuff like that.

I wouldn't mind seeing the story (new or old) of Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus/SoulStorm retold in a 3D game akin to the earlier builds of Munch. But with the old art and grittiness of Abe's Oddysee returned.

I have voted for a new game, but I would be happy with a remake of oddysee and exoddus as well.

A new Abe game in 2.5D is a must. If that isn't one of your secret game projects, I will lose a lot of respect for you guys. D:

For now that isn't an option to begin with, as it would require an enormous investment into licensing an existing engine and creating stunning 3D cinematics. With the Oddworld franchise being low on budget as it is, I think we should be happy they're starting it up again at all.

I would like a new game. Either Squeek's Oddysee or Brutal Ballad!

First preference: A 2.5D new Abe game.
Second preference: HD remakes of AO & AE that are identical to the originals.
Third preference: A 3D game that resembles the original MO cinematics.

I was gonna vote Abe's Exoddus HD, until I saw the "new game" option.

Re-makes are very nice indeed however us Oddworld Fans need something new

to suit most people it should be a New Abe game in the style of Oddysee and Exoddus.

maybe they change it up a little. would be great to see some extra environments with meeches. they where supposed to be in abes oddysee.
im not hostile to improvements as long as the old feeling of abes oddysee is captured. im curious...

So are we being asked so maybe what we say will affect what you guys are doing about a new game, or are you just asking for the hell of it, Mr. Gilrod?

Actually, I agree with this - People are more tempted to buy games when they're from a franchise that they're familiar with (well at least I am - I wouldn't have given Munch or Stranger a second glance if I wasn't familiar with AO and AE).

I think that a new game should be made, but since the old games are low resolution and don't look good on newer screens, they deserve a remake if done correctly, and I'd love to see them both get a new lease of life. Maybe remakes should be made first if it's easier to do, to help rekindle interest in the franchise before releasing a new game, hopefully meaning better sales and even more new games. :)

I know that microsoft own Munch's Oddysee...but maybe OWI could make MO remake HD by JAW so that people like me who don't own an xbox and pc is too rubbish to run MO, and have a perfectly good ps3 can finally get the 2nd chapter of the quintology from PSN
