Elder Scolls V Skyrim

Can't wait till this comes out.

Mr. Bungle 12-16-2010 05:20 PM

Same. I absolutely adored Oblivion, but I haven't played Morrowind much but I did enjoy what I played. Bethesda is one of the more consistent developers, so I'm expecting good things.

Phylum 12-16-2010 05:27 PM

Not only has this already been posted, but it has been posted in a thread for this kind of thing.

mr.odd 12-16-2010 05:39 PM

Okay, i didin't see the thread or the post. But i think the thread is rather pointless.

@Mr.Bungle
Yea, i never played morrowind. I might buy it off of steam to give it a try. Oblivion kept me entertained for hours. Bethesda packed alot more content into oblivion than they did with fallout 3 and new vegas.

Mr. Bungle 12-16-2010 07:19 PM

Mass Effect 3 has a thread, why can't this?

Phylum 12-16-2010 07:25 PM

2 wrongs don't make a right.

mr.odd 12-16-2010 07:28 PM

How is it wrong? That thread just defeats the purpose of having an entire forum for this kind stuff.

Wings of Fire 12-16-2010 07:41 PM

This game will almost certainly have more than enough discussion to warrant it's own thread.

Phylum 12-16-2010 08:25 PM

Will.

As it stands we really know nothing about it.

That said, I can't fucking wait.

Chubfish 12-17-2010 04:38 AM

I'm not too bothered by this game.

Bullet Magnet 12-17-2010 06:05 AM

A little bit miffed that it's set in the Skyrim province. That makes it unlikely that we will finally see and become Tamriel's werecrocodiles.

Oh, to be an Argonian werecrocodile! To be a lizardman who must painfully transform into a lizardman!

MeechMunchie 12-17-2010 06:09 AM

Much as I love the idea of going to Black Marsh, its own game seems unlikely since it lacks two important RPG qualities: 1) Varied geography and 2) Widespread permanent habitation.

Who knows, maybe us Argonians will get an expansion.

mr.odd 12-17-2010 01:20 PM

Hopefully. I would also like to see black marsh as well, considering i'm an Argonian player myself. I'm surprised they haven’t released some concept art yet. According to bethesda, they have been working on this for a while.

T-nex 12-18-2010 08:48 AM

Oh god how I fucking loved Morrowind. I spent a year finally completing the main-quest. I never finished thee expansion packs though.

Onblivion was great, but I've never finished the main quest.

This.. I'm so happy to hear they are making a new game :) I remember when talks of a new game was only a 'maybe' or rumors.
I really hope they fix the problems they had with Oblivion, such as kind of half-assed story-line and stuff. Dunno... Oblivion could just never beat Morrowind in means of storyline and atmosphere. Oh and the landscapes. I want wild and weird landscapes and... arrgh!!

I hope my comp will be able to run it. x_X

Alf Shall Rise 12-20-2010 01:16 PM

Looking forward to this.

I actually liked the storyline in oblivion. It wasn't no ground breaking storyline, but it was decent. I thought the ending was pretty epic at least.

this. i fucking loved Morrowind. it was in another league compared to Oblivion, i reckon.

i'm not really that interested in this Elder Scrolls V, seeing as Oblivion couldn't hold my attention for very long. it seemed too plastic, whereas you could fully immerse yourself in Morrowind.

T-nex 12-21-2010 03:36 PM

Perhaps they learned from the feedback of many disappointed fans and perhaps they will have improved their new game. I'm gonna give it a shot at least =)

Mr. Bungle 12-21-2010 03:45 PM

I should get around to playing Morrowind. I've owned the discs forever, just never gave it a proper play-through.

MeechMunchie 12-23-2010 05:30 AM

DO IT

DO IT NOW

Honestly, you won't regret it. The world is so masterfully made, I doubt we'll ever see you again.

OANST 12-23-2010 07:57 AM

A friend lent it to me, and it bored me to tears. I stopped playing after an hour.

Wil 12-23-2010 08:20 AM

I remember playing the Morrowind Loading Screen. Everything else on the disc was so fleeting I can't bring it to mind.

Wings of Fire 12-23-2010 08:33 AM

Apparently Morrowind was a very pretty game, but very slow and dull.

Oblivion however has vastly superior gameplay mechanics but more generic boring scenery.

ziggy 12-23-2010 09:37 AM

Morrowind has a very rich world, that's for sure. But the combat is very crappy. It takes so much leveling up to just kill a rat from the beginning. Once I started playing it for a while though, I got kind of hooked into it.

That's about it, minus the 'vastly' and 'very'. Morrowind didn't feel it needed to throw a monster at you every 30 seconds to keep your attention.

Dynamithix 12-23-2010 12:22 PM

I never completed Oblivion's mainquest because it was so boring.

I did enjoy punching people though.

Wings of Fire 12-23-2010 12:26 PM

It got better towards the end, but closing Oblivion gates always seemed like such a slog.

Bullet Magnet 12-23-2010 02:02 PM

I didn't get very far in Oblivion before causing some sort of zombie apocalypse. There were hundreds in some crypt or dungeon, I assume due to a glitch, and I couldn't kill them. And they followed me outside and wreaked total devastation. I haven't played that save since because it seems to consist of constant fleeing.

T-nex 12-23-2010 02:23 PM

Morrowind IS boring in the start. I kept playing for some reason though, and got hooked. I think it was my first real RPG too, so I was kinda kept entertained by the new type of gameplay.

Anonyman! 12-24-2010 02:34 PM

meh is gon be bad prolly

yes i mad

MeechMunchie 12-30-2010 04:52 AM

Interesting article: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/30/15...#comment-28632

I disagree with the points raised in 8, and made a counter-argument under the name of FlamingCarrot further down the page.

Strike Witch 12-31-2010 01:36 AM

Morrowind is basically a bunch of squished-faced mooks on an island made of varying shades of poop. You start off in dark brown muddy long-build up shit, slog through dried dust shit-flakes central, arrive at healthy brown fart-gas city, skirt green sickly see-a-doctor feces, and finally you battle the shit-tastic boss in red-and-black rectal reflux city.

Oblivion was not much better.

MeechMunchie 12-31-2010 05:11 AM

It was realistically ugly.

MeechMunchie 01-12-2011 11:44 PM

According to latest reports, Skyrim will feature:
  • No level cap
  • Dual wielding
  • Appropriate finishing moves based on weapon, enemy and movement
  • Trolls
  • Giants
  • Spiders
  • Elk
  • Mammoths
  • Saber-toothed tigers
  • Appropriate were-animals (Bullet Magnet will be happy. Currently the most likely is were-yetis)
  • Dragons
  • A enemy-levelling system a bit like Fallout 3's
  • Consequential changes in quests by your actions
  • Quests appropriate to your skills (no more lumbering barbarian courier jobs or Mages joining the Fighters' Guild)
  • Duelling
  • Better conversations (thank God)
  • High-res animated beards
  • Weapon tailoring (probably through magic gems and such - smells like Diablo III...)
  • Various distractions and day jobs (Cooking, farming and mining announced)
  • Civil war
Apparently it's being made 'streamlined and action-focused'. That's right, they're making another Oblivion, not the Morrowind lovechild everybody wanted. But hey, at least it's not generic Western fantasy - now it's generic Scandinavian fantasy! Also, shed a tear; Skyrim will be:
  • Removing the class system in favour of 'open levelling'. In other words, you can't specialise any more.
  • Reducing to 18 skills. 18. Morrowind had 27. You're going backwards, Bethesda!
  • This means that completely seperate weapon skills will still be smushed together. Bethesda seem to feel that daggers, swords and spears all work the same way. Ditto for axes, clubs and warhammers.
  • Teleport-happy Morrowind players share my howl of anguish: Mysticism is among the skills dropped! Nooooo!

Dixanadu 01-13-2011 02:47 PM

If it has more than four voice actors, and no criminal scum accusations, I'll give it a whirl.

Bullet Magnet 01-13-2011 06:17 PM

Simplification isn't necessarily a bad thing. Look at Mass Effect 2: vast improvement.

Wings of Fire 01-13-2011 06:34 PM

If swords and spears worked the same way then I'd be winning fencing competitions on a regional scale.

This is a classic fantasy RPG. It's supposed to have a sprawling sea of skills and incomprehensible stat sheets.

This. But fucking dragons! Shit just got really interesting.

T-nex 01-14-2011 06:46 AM

I just hope they make weird and surreal environments like in Morrowind.

Oblivion just wasnt that interesting. Except for Shivering Isles. That was a bit more interesting =)
