Oddworld.com suggestion thread
 

The new Oddworld site is live! And looking good so far :D

Anyway, with Oddworld Inhabitants expressing their desire to become closer to the fans with feedback, I thought it would be a good idea to post all your suggestions for the website/games in the one thread. With Mr. Gilray and The Native visiting the forums, it should be useful for all our suggestions to be in one place.

It should have a forum where the fans could post things like what they would like to have on the website.

They should have a History article.

They should have a blog. An odd one.

- The Blog should have a different name.

- Putting your mouse over a button shouldn't make the other ones move.

- The "Odd What?" button should lead somewhere.

- Abe's shoulder should be fixed.

We should be their brain trust.

-Whole button should be link, not just the text on it.

I like how you can click on the Odd Facts and a new one appears :D

And another thing, I know it's been mentioned in other threads, but the Munch's Oddysee description on the Games page needs to be changed.

EDIT: Also, they should announce all of JAW's projects on that site. Today. :P

They should at least link their website to this one if they don't make a new forum, oh and they should hint at the old stuff like environments, vehicles and upcoming releases like Squeek

It would be nice if their entire theme wasn't based around Abe - Oddworld's got tons of interesting creatures, why not use some of them?

True, when the exoddus banner is on, you actually have Abe 5 times on the homepage.

I'm bored so I just counted up; on the front page, Abe can be seen:

• In the page background image (1),
• Above the "Odd Facts" box (1),
• At the very bottom of the page (1),
• On the Exoddus banner - FMV screenshot and mugshot in the game logo (2),
• On the OddBox banner - in three of the four game box arts (3).

Abe appears a grand total of 8 times on the front page alone.

Well, that's the thing. We have waited so long, and then there's still major mistakes/things to be picky about. It should have been good firsttime round given the time it took them :P

Not related, but I think the same thing will happen with GT5. That game has been announced so many times, that now it MUST be PERFECT. Every slight little wrong thing will get major attention now, with the conclusion that GT sucks because of those little mistakes that will still be in the game.

That's how it works all time, so I think Stewart and guys/girls?? were prepared for these reactions anyway :)

They should defiantly have a fan section where you could sign up and post pictures and stuff to share with friends! I really hope they implement that in there :D They should also sell advertisements like clothes, hoodies, coffee mugs shape like brew bottles, etc.

So you want a) somewhere to share your fanart and b) adverts. Just checking.

Is the Oddbox button meant to link to the Games page?
Is the Odd What? button meant to link to the home page?

Hmm well, I think the old looked a lot cooler (just saying) but it's not bad at all. I like how you guys didn't just wait 'till you were ready to start advertising for your new projects and make the new website completely centered around them. I feel confident that you guys will be successful in relaunching this franchise. ;) Can't wait

The Munch's Oddysee Flash games from years ago :D

I just want to know who's brilliant idea it was to go from a pretty awesome flash based site with lots of background and info about the games and the company, to a goddamn wordpress blog.

Here's a few pointers:

- Double links, really? Why do 'Oddbox' and 'Games' link to the same place while it doesn't explain anything about the Oddbox?

- Your 'shop' is a list of links. At least name it 'Where to buy' and not a 'shop'. Also why are there only links for AO and AE? What happened to MO and SW?

- The 'About' page is filled with rather useless info. 18% of sales in Europe were female gamers? Looks to me like someone had a really really really hard time writing even 3 paragraphs of text about OWI and just threw in some random facts to fill the space. Nice going.

- Why are you telling the entire story for each game on their respective page? When I look at any other game's 'about' page I get a description of the game's mechanics, what you get to do and with what means, not the entire story of the game in a few paragraphs. God forbid they did/do that with Half Life.

- And there's a useless link in the navigation bar. Odd What? Come on...

You know, any fan base is notorious for always bitching at everything a company gives them. It's that way with any game franchise. But this makes it almost too easy. Aside from the fancy graphics that entire site is a joke.

You do have a point there, Havoc, but we should be happy that finally we have an official site for Oddworld. I'm sure it'll get updated later on.

Euh, the old site was not flash based. Luckily the new one is also not flash, as I pretty much hate flash based sites!

My favourite amongst Havoc's criticisms was the one where he complained that all the "shop" page does is link people to places they can shop for the Oddworld games.

I also like the bit where he thinks you can buy MO and SW online.

There is a difference between a shop and a list of places to buy something, you know. If I see 'shop' on a site, I presume I can buy something on that same site. Not get a list of links to some other sites. That's called a 'Where to buy' list.

If you click to view Abe's Exodus, it says its release date is 1997. That's not right is it? Abe's Oddysee was 1997, no?

Leftover retail copies that OWI won't make a cent from. Clever you. They should also provide maps so people can locate copies in store bargain bins. I'm outraged at their incompetence.

I would suggest making the titles of the news posts links to the full article.
