Super Meat Boy
Super Meat Boy was released on Xbox Live Arcade just a while ago and it seems very addicting and fun. If you don't really know about it, here's the teaser trailer for it:
Also, what are people's opinions about it? Has anyone on these forums bought it yet? I'm 70% sure I'll end up buying this sometime, but not for the next week or so, because I'm so gonna buy RDR - Undead Nightmare and Costume Quest! It also got some pretty damn positive reviews like GameSpot gave it a 9.5. |
I've yet to play it, but did watch my friend playing it earlier today. It looked pretty fun, reminds me of a tame IWBTG.
If it's a rather long game, I'd buy it. It looks great. If it's a short game, I'd only buy it maybe 2nd hand if it's really cheap. I really like action and puzzle plat formers, though that doesn't look much like a puzzle game, I was referring to AO and AE there. I think I like plat formers more than the 3D games.
I prefer the original.
Forgive me if you already new of this but I figure the best way for you to get an idea of what Super Meat Boy will be like is to play the prototype; Meat Boy.
Personally, I can say that you are correct. It's very addictive and very fun. Feels great to complete it too. Not as challenging as IWBTG however. ~Blessed be |

Looks like a very difficult platformer.
I've only finished the first world so far, but yeah, it's very good.
I played it about a year ago. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/463241
Yes. We get it. You played Meat Boy. That's great. But claiming that you played Super Meat Boy because you've played Meat Boy is akin to claiming that you've played Super Mario Bros. because you've played Mario Bros.
Hey, I killed Dr Fetus. If he's back...

I may buy this on Steam if there's a demo. I'm currently struggling to see the distinction between this and normal Meat Boy. And much as I love to be told what to like by other people, this isn't really the right kind of game for a Let's Play.
He is pretty adorable though. I might pretend to like the game just so I can fawn over the character. |
I'm having a hard time getting used to the weight of Meat Boy. He controls very differently from the N+ ninja and Splosion Man. That's not a bad thing. It's just that there's a learning curve there.

It won't. It's published by Microsoft as a 360 exclusive.
Watch this instead. This is the guy that beat me in the contest.
PHYSICS!
'SPLOSIONS!
AND 3 DIFFERENT CONTROLS!
What?
Left, Right and 'Splode?
I fear I may have misread their website. I knew somehing like that would happen, just when I start to feel cool. |
Probably what you saw is that they offer the ability to map your abilities to the buttons that you want. Which is a joke because every button makes you 'splode.
So you can't even contol when and which way you run?
I MUST HAVE THIS GAME |
The analogue stick makes you run, you smart ass.
So there are three controls. It's just that two are covered by the same appendage.
YES FINE THREE CONTROLS
I really meant that thing about liking a commercial game with no control over movement, by the way. That would be awesome.
But the joke's dead. Mood's gone. Move on. ♪ Yesterday, our troubles seemed so far away... ♫ |
I'm having a hard time choosing which one of these I should buy:
- Super Meat Boy, 800MSP - Limbo, 1200MSP - Costume Quest, 1200MSP - Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 800MSP I'm probably going for Costume Quest, but I still really, really want Limbo though. EDIT: Also, if I spend 2400MSP or more this month, I'll get free 800MSP in November, yay, that'll be enough for Super Meat Boy or Scott! |
Argh, such a tough choice. I'd get Limbo, but I'd also highly recommend Super Meat Boy, as that shit is sooo addictive. I haven't played the other two, but they seem pretty good. Especially Costume Quest, considering it's from the genius mind of Tim Schafer and the other dudes at DoubleFine.
I have tried both, Costume Quest and Limbo and they both are very good, but I'll probably get Costume Quest. The demo was sooooo fun, I want it bad! Limbo is very good too, but I want something nice and happy, so I'm going for CQ for now. I really need to get my hands on Limbo too though.

Super Meat Boy is fucking incredible. I beat the game yesterday, but of course that means that I've only accomplished about 40% of it so far. Some of the levels are so mind-bogglingly difficult that they don't even frustrate me. I have to actually believe that I can beat a level for it to frustrate me.
For instance, the three levels that you need to beat to unlock the character from I Want To Be The Guy are hands down the hardest levels that I have ever experienced in any video game ever. Ever. N+ expert levels are like a gentle breeze on a warm spring day compared to the ferocity of this shit. I worked on the first level (which is one single screen) for three solid hours. After three hours, I finally beat it. I was overwhelmingly ecstatic until I realized that it was but the first of three levels that increase in difficulty with each one, and that you have to beat them all in one sitting, or start over again. After an hour of working on the second level, I called it quits. I will be going back to it, though. |
I really like games with challenge, but that sounds so brutal. I'm still kinda considering if I should buy Super Meat Boy or not.
Here's a video of the I Wanna Be The Guy levels. I'm glad to see that the third level is really easy. I don't feel so afraid to try to do this again now. Of course, this guy makes the whole thing look easy, but trust me. It isn't.
I need this game. I can't stop playing the demo.
I really fucking wish I had not bought this game. Nothing to do with addictiveness, but even with perfectly acceptable system requirements and the lowest resolution, it plays like laggy crap. And the jump button doesn't work about 3/4 of the time and Meat Retard keeps falling through solid walls.
I blamed myself for pre-ordering before the demo became available, but even now after launch there isn't a demo. What a goddamn fail. |
Is it your PC's fault, or is that version just poorly made?
The lagginess probably is my computer's fault, but like I say, it meats (lol) all the published system requirements. The jumping issue is hopefully related to that. As for falling through solid walls, that can't be anything but bad coding.
Is the wuaultc.exe playing up? Mine does every day and makes my computer unusable.
