Has anyone ever heard of a Choupug?

Is this Oddworld related? I've never seen it before.
It is Lorne Lanning's Twitter picture.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I searched and didn't find anything.

MuMI 08-31-2010 05:27 PM

I would like to know that too!
And I also seen him only in his twitter...

FlakyRock 08-31-2010 08:23 PM

Whow, that scared me.
Hmmmm.... It does remind me of the game a little bit... lets RESEARCH! :D

Xavier 09-01-2010 12:37 AM

Hey, look at that, something new...

The Brewmaster 09-01-2010 12:46 AM

Something New?! .... nah its a trick, if you look close enough you can see that its an announcement that is actually not going to be announced untill September...maybe December :D :P

squeak117 09-01-2010 01:20 AM

This is interesting.
The name 'Choupug' sounds very much like the title of a type of dog. That's actually kind of worrying, seeing as we already have the Slog in Oddworld, which I would have to say is one of the most delightfully terrifying creatures in the first two games.

If it's an addition, I welcome it with open arms... but for all we know, it could be a straight up replacement. I feel as though OWI have had enough time to re-think their designs, whether we might like it or not. Here's hoping that isn't the case, though.

:

chou [ʃuː]
n pl choux [ʃuː]
1. (Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Plants) a type of cabbage
2. a rosette
3. (Cookery) a round cream bun
Well, there you go.

Dynamithix 09-01-2010 01:24 AM

This is interesting. Great find!

Nate 09-01-2010 03:37 AM

Are we even sure that it is really Lorne Lanning on that twitter account?

Of course not! This is the internet.

Xavier 09-01-2010 05:49 AM

He's following his long time friend Josh Gabriel and he's using one of his own made up words: http://www.addictionary.com/words/17695/diabiblical

Plus the picture looks totally new and oddworld to me.

So I'd say the chances of him really being Lorne are pretty good.

MeechMunchie 09-01-2010 05:49 AM

Is it really me on this OWF account?

Hmm. Chou-pug. An amalgamation of the words 'chew' and 'pug', creating a creature with a large mouth, big eyes and a flat face.

Well, it certainly fits the OWI creative process.

GlukkonGluk 09-01-2010 06:04 AM

After five years, I should certainly hope they've managed to come up with ONE new creature, don't you think?

Yeah, you're right about that.

MuMI 09-01-2010 10:22 AM

It sure is odd!

STM 09-01-2010 10:33 AM

I immediately thought of a pug dog and chou - chupacabra

paramiteabe 09-01-2010 04:25 PM

Maybe its a revision to Fuzzles? But then again maybe its Oddworlds version of a small dog like a Chinese Pug.

Alf Shall Rise 09-01-2010 04:43 PM

Certainly looks weird. Let's hope it is some kind of new creature. Its eyes remind me of a tarsier's eyes.

jmchandler 09-01-2010 05:39 PM

Maybe it's a Mudokon which has turned into a WereSlog.

Mr. Bungle 09-01-2010 06:33 PM

A "Wereslog"...I'd have to encounter one of those, seeing as regular Slogs are vicious enough!

Interesting find.

ziggy 09-01-2010 06:51 PM

Does it look like a Boombat's face to anyone else?

Mr. Bungle 09-01-2010 06:54 PM

What is a Boombat? Can't say I've ever heard of one of them.

Is anyone following this Twitter account? I tried, but it said it was protected. If you are, is it confirmed to be Lorne's account?

ONE new creature would completely change the way the game is played :p

This is a boombat:

And I can't follow Lorne, Max apparently managed to, but Lorne didn't tweet yet.

Abe's Oddysee, Exoddus.
Not much Munch and Stranger's because, you get what I mean. :fuzwink:

Wil 09-02-2010 12:45 AM

So I'm the only one who doesn't think it's particularly Oddworld?

STM 09-02-2010 12:55 AM

I think the colour scheme of the creature and the art style is oddworld but the picture is big enough to be definitive.

It could be a creature from an other universe then oddworld, but you'll have to admit it's the same style.

MeechMunchie 09-02-2010 03:27 AM

I looks like Rat(z) but angrier.

Phantasos 09-02-2010 05:26 AM

That is pretty intriguing. But why has Lanning protected his tweets? What's up with that?

Nate 09-02-2010 05:27 AM

Maybe he actually wants to connect with friends and people he cares about without fans butting in and harrassing him like they have with poor Stewart Gilray.

There's always that..

Or

Perhaps he's hiding all them announcements behind that account. The fiend!

Anyway, that picture alone has excited me somewhat enough to come to terms that they've possibly been working on.. something.

crimsonxking 09-02-2010 06:19 AM

I'd say it looks Oddworld enough to possibly be something from it. I'm curious to see a full design. But, it's also possible this is something else completely.

Well; what I've noticed, as the Oddworld game series has progressed...we've been introduced to a whole range of different looking characters with their own unique looks. In AO; a lot of the characters are quite menacing in terms of looks (Scrabs, Paramites etc.) but in AE, we are introduced to some slightly more wacky looking characters (most notably; Greeters) and in MO and SW; theres even mixture of both. I mean if you saw a Fuzzle and a Slig both on their own and had no idea what games they were from; you'd probably assume the Fuzzle is from a kid's game and the Slig is from an action/shooter style game, thats the wonderful thing about Oddworld...theres a huge variety of characters. :)

So I think dismissing this as not Oddworld is a tad bit hasty; we need to find out more info on this thing first. :P

Precisely! I found that myself.
The Clakkerz and Outlaws I first felt weren't very Oddworldian in the slightest, they felt very platformer/childish - as if something from Spyro, but then looking back, there are a lot of varied species in Oddworld.

OANST 09-02-2010 04:15 PM

As much as I loved Stranger's Wrath I still think that Clakkerz were poorly designed and stupid.

Whilst a lot of that is due to the different vibes of each game coming out through the designs, it also has to do with who were the production designers in OWI at the time.

Dynamithix 09-02-2010 09:41 PM

I keep remembering that there were some Slog like creatures in Stranger's Wrath...

Slergs or something. Am I right or is it my imagination running wild?

squeak117 09-02-2010 10:06 PM

You're right, they're called Slegs.

Xavier 09-03-2010 02:33 AM

Yep, Slegs, like slogs, but wilder

I think how I came to accept them just that little bit, was that their feet are somewhat reptilian and their noses are bizarrely positioned on their faces..

The first Sleg compound you come across in SW, just after your first encounter with the Grubbs, has a sign with a Slog on it opposed to a Sleg. I always thought that strange, furhtermore, I was kinda relieved that they weren't Slogs.

Slogs terrify me more than Slegs, but maybe that's just because Abe doesn't have a crossbow..
