Various errors
 

Has anyone else been getting any error messages along the lines of "You do not have permission", "Database error" and others when trying to view the Forums? I've mostly been getting them when trying to look at the main page or new posts list, but they disappear when refreshing.

I've only started noticing them in the last couple of weeks and I wondered if anyone else was similarly effected. I'll start recording the exact error messages I get.

I had a couple this morning, if it happens again I'll report my error messages.

I haven't received any as of yet.

I have just had two "no input file specified" messages in rapid succession.

Is it a VB problem or are the forums just exploding?

This one was weird. First time I got this one amongst all the other error messages I've been getting.

I've gotten all of the messages before. But not since I posted this thread.

I got one clicking this thread, ironically.

Also, when I click on my name to view my profile, I see OANST's. I think he's assimilated my account.

This looks like an available memory issue. I'll have a word with our host and see what's going on.

As really should be obvious, you guys need to tell us what theme you're using.

Database and config errors have nothing to do with template, silly Nate.

Truth be told, I didn't bother reading the error messages before my last post.

Reading them wouldn't really have made much difference to my understanding of them, mind you.

I had a similar message on another VB forum about 2 days ago. None here as of yet.

Wierd. I've never had any of these problems. I'm using Firefox with all types of code enabled and the native theme if that helps..

Could this be related to the Reddit-caused influx of guests?

The number of users isn't very high - so I doubt it.

That's what I wondered, but the errors have been appearing for much longer than we've been on Reddit.

I had a database fuck up just now when i tried to get into Kastere's blog.

I am no longer an error virgin.

Suddenly I got a whole massive wave of error messages. Current Active Members is the unusually high (and binarically significant) 255. Make of that what you will

I'm getting it when I try to go Back to the New Posts page from a thread.

Had one "No input file specified".

I also had the "forbidden" one and stuff.

I just had 6 different error messages before I could finally sent my PM to Kastere. This is unacceptable!!! *Rage*

Trying to access UCP:

I had a whole wave of them earlier today, about the same time Nate had his, I think. Over several refreshes, pages weren't loading properly, with white backgrounds and images not appearing, interspersed with not loading at all and getting various error messages I didn't really look at. After a minute or two everything went back to normal.

Leading on from my last post, and a discussion with Max last night, is it possible that vBulletin and/or the server has a hard coded 8-bit limit on the number of simultaneous users?

I doubt it - the errors are occuring during low-load periods as well. Once I've heard back from the server guys, I'll let you know and we can go from there.

If it isn't something easy to fix, I may have to see about moving to a different plan. One such might be the option to have our RAM increased/decreased on-the-fly relative to load - would cost a tad more, but if I recall not overly much.

I can't imagine that being the problem. There are what, 30 people logged in at the same time on a good day? If your hosting service can't even handle that I'd get the hell out of there and get a decent host.

The issue is due to a server hard limit of 1,000,500 files open at any one time. Don't forget we're on a shared server, so while that figure is ridiculously large, it isn't when you factor in how many other accounts are sharing the same server.

I've sought comment on how to move forward with this, and I'll keep you all informed.
