Munch's Voice...
 

I haven't played MO before (looking forward to the Oddbox) but I watched 1 or 2 videos recently. Is it me or is Munch's voice a little annoying? Does it work when you play the game?

I just don't think I'll enjoy a game where the central character pisses me off every time he speaks...

Well, it isn't a very good game. So, I guess, don't play it.

Since Munch is essentially a giant frog, Lorne was trying to give his voice that croaky-ness. I find the voice kind of annoying, but to his credit, it's a very unique voice that I doubt anyone could imitate without a case of laryngitis.

I didn't have a problem with Munch or his voice. I just wanted the game to be good.

They fixed that in Stranger's Wrath, though.

Munch's voice annoys me a lot less than the Crappin' Elum, who thinks it is funny to post pictures of the execution of my Great-uncle (through marriage) Lenny.

I found Munch's voice far less annoying than the sound of his footsteps.

I liked Munch's voice. i found it pretty clever how they put croaks in it to imply that he is a frog-like inhabitant

That makes sense. I just think he should make the voice more likable like Abe's.

i like munch's voice, i just don't like him, or the game, it seems even though abe's in the game (and one of the main characters) the whole game seems to revolve around munch, and i wish they had'nt taken out lots of unique things from the previous 2 games, like shrykull, healing rings and stuff. why in AE and AO scrabs are so terrortorial and in MO they run in packs together?

I thought Munch's voice wasn't as good as Abe's, but it fits his character, personality, and figure, and it was a balance to the squeaky and fast-talking Vykkers.

That's a complaint. And even if he's a main character, it's not his story, it's Munch's. If it was called "Abe's Oddysee" I'd unserstand this complaint.

Anyways, Abe's story was meant to be larger in scale, in regard to his mother, but development troubles meant they had to remove her from the game.

I too was pissed off that Munch got all of the spotlight. Yes, I am aware it is Munch's Oddysee but, to me, is appeared that Abe was pushed to the side. I don't really like anything about the new games. I still prefer the good ol' 2D Oddworld adventures to pretty much anything.

I thought Munch's Oddysee was a decent game, if a bit rushed, especially in terms of story line. Although, I wouldn't put off playing it just 'cause Munch's voice is a bit irritating...:P

Hardly. I think most people here will agree that they chose to play Abe over Munch every chance they got because Munch was slow, annoying, and fairly useless outside of the game mechanics built specifically for him. As far as his involvement in the plot... it's Munch's Oddysee. His adventure. Of course Abe was pushed to the side, he was just there to help Munch along. If anything, Abe was probably used much more in the game than they originally intended.

I think Abe was pushed to the side because

a) The game wasn't about him, it was mainly about Munch.
b) At the time, OWI probably thought they'd be sharing the spotlight evenly between all of the Quintologians. They'd put more focus on Abe when they'd come full circle and celebrated all of the heroes.

Abe is a better character than Munch in my opinion, but Abe was never going to be the focus of all the games.

You're not going to handle the new games at all. If you can't take the fact that Abe won't be the star all the time then you might as well quit while you're ahead.

I don't really hear a similarity between Droopy and Munch. Maybe the somberness of their tone, but that's about it. Munch isn't deep or jowly enough.
