Oddworld models
Hi everyone,
Finally managed to get some decent images of my Oddworld models!- Modelmaking is my main hobby, I've been a fan of Oddworld since the beginning and have really enjoyed making the characters from the games. Hope you like 'em! :D They range in size from 5" (Molluck) to 3" (Munch), and are all relative to each other. Click the images to see them larger :) 11572 11568 11570 11569 11571 |
That slig is amazing, along with everything else, even if Abe does seem a tad short. I hope to see a paramite as well though.:D
What really strikes me as amazing is the coloring. |
These are awesome! How did you make these?
|
Oh... my... giddy aunt...
The slig is fantastic, could pass for official merchandise. The scrab is a bit too bright, I think, but shape is perfect, love the teeth, and Mullock is good, too! I want that slig!!! :p |
Thanks, glad you like them :D
They're made with air-drying clay, which is great to sculpt with, and I then painted them with model paints. For some reason, when taking photos of models close up the colours and proportions do tend to distort a little, but I agree Abe is a tad short- I made him and Molluck several years ago! The slig is my most recent one, I finished him a couple weeks ago. I do feel like I've improved in that time, (plus having the Oddworld art book now really helps! :)) Funnily enough was going to make a paramite instead of the slig at first but changed my mind. Hope to do one eventually tho... oh, and a Mud riding elum- that one's been on the cards for years but never got round to it :D |
Wow that slig is amazing! You sure do have talent, I would buy the slig of you if you made another one ;D
|
Holy shit these are fantasic! The paint work is just perfect especially the Slig.
1 rep, If I could give more i will :D |
Crashpunk, you have rep power 4.
|
All amazing, but the Slig is definitely the greatest. +4 rep :D
|
Your comments are great, nice to hear what people think!
If you have any more suggestions for Oddworld characters that I could make I'd love to hear them- might be a while before I make another though, I'm making a 12" Chris Redfield from Resident Evil 5 at the moment :D When I make more Oddworld stuff I'll add photos to this thread :) |
Ahhhh
OMG U BASTARD! Look what I've been working on for the past few days!!
Damn you I was making a whole number of these for a game I was thinking of making. Ahhh. On another note, these are freaking amazing! That slig is like a real miniature! + rep |
@Scrabtrapman,
Haha :D I like your idea btw, an Oddworld miniatures game would be awesome! The slig was the only one which needed a base to stand up (for obvious reasons :p) and I see the resemblance to miniatures- did you ever do any Games Workshop stuff then? Thats where I learned to paint models, before I moved on to making my own :) |
Yes, I used to paint those miniatures a few years back, y'know the Tau and Necrons? I gave it up quite quickly however when I realised that it was in fact quite sad =(. I wasn't that good a painting but made quite a few good battle scenes (I forget the proper name for that)
|
Yep, tho I never really got into playing the games myself, just liked the challenge of painting the models (You wouldn't believe the stick you get from people for playing the battle games! :D)
I haven't done any for years now- like I said, I just moved on to making my own. Its great not being restricted to stuff you buy, I find its much more interesting making whatever you want! |

Anyway, I hate to sound like an echo but that Slig is fantastic, as is Molluck. Abe is a tad stocky but the painting on all of them is very good. |
Slig have just perfect proportions! It's painted just amazing. I wish i have enough skill to paint my Dark Angels :)
|
@Splat/MeechMunchie: The ironic thing is when I was in school people would always make fun of playing battle games, but if you actually ask them it seems they've all played them at some point! I just don't understand it...
On another note, seems u all like the slig best so I used it as my avatar! :D Also meant to say if anyone else has made any Oddworld models, you should post your pics on this thread too :) |
Nice work on the Slig's legs there, mate.
Sculpting is tricky business and you've done a pretty good job with these. It's very hard to impress me with fan art, but you've pulled it off, good sir. Keep up the good work! |
@Sekto Springs: Cheers, glad u like them! :)
I actually forgot to say the slig is not entirely clay- the body, face, arms etc. are, however the legs are made with lots of different things (hope this doesn't disappoint you!). The ball section where the slig sits is clay, but the legs are pieces of aluminium tubing, plasticard (basically very thin plastic sheets cut to the right shape) and wire. I really wanted them to be accurate, and wasn't sure I could get the right effect trying to sculpt them with clay, so I searched through some bits and bobs to find stuff with a good smooth finish. The knee pads are actually some washers filled in with clay, and the pipes coming from the mask are the plastic coating off some garden wire which I managed to pull off :D The legs had to be pinned to the base for the finished model to stand up. Again, the barrel of the gun is aluminium tubing- Its all a pretty low-cost affair really; I'd say the actual materials cost per model is just a couple of quid (plus about 20 hours of work! :p) |
Heck, it doesn't matter what you made it of. It's still incredible.
|
Of course the legs aren't clay. It's damn near impossible to achieve that kind of linearity with a soft medium. Love it all the same! :)
|
Yeh, looks real good if not better than just clay!
|
I've been thinking probably the next Oddworld model I make will be either a paramite or a Vykker, but can't decide which :fuzconf:
what do u guys think? |
Great models Michael, and the paint job is especially brilliant given the scale you're working in. Nice work! :D
and my vote's for the Vykker. |
i'll repeat what more-or-less everyone here has said and tell you that slig is amazing. bloody hell.
i reckon a Vykker would be a good bet. |
Wow. The attention to detail you have is remarkable! Everything fro, (I'll use the slig for my example) the proportions to the lines on the hands are perfect!
I'd love to see you do a paramite. |
Votes for both Vykker and paramite!
I'll have to do them both eventually :p Does anyone know how big a Vykker would be in comparison with, say, Abe? Unfortunately I never got the chance to play the xbox Oddworld games (can't wait for the Oddbox :D) so never really saw them in game? |
This ought to give a rough idea of the height.
http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...=RAMO0158.jpg6 EDIT: Also, it'd be nice to see you make a snoozer considering how well done the slig pants are. |
@Phylum: Thanks for your help, don't think I've seen that pic before :)
Also a snoozer would be really cool! like the slig, I doubt I'd be able to make it that well with clay, so I'll have a look to see what I can find... :D |
OMG I remembered the name of the thing with lots of miniatures, a diorama, you should make a diorama of a slig commanding a pack of slogs at a mudokon worker scrubbing a locker. Ehem. Pardon Moi
|
Like it! A diorama would be something different for me to do, coz at the moment all my models are individual :). You just reminded me too- I need to do a slog! I wanted to do one ages ago but I forgot! :D
|
Go me! Lol, if you actually did a diorama like that I would rep 10 times!
|
Any more models news?
|
i love the slig, like everyone else, but i think you should do a paramite, it would look great! or, a flying slig, you could put it on a stand!
|
oo, or how about a mudokon worker scrubbing the floors?
|
don't double post OitB. Please.
How are you getting on with things by the way Mike? |
