Interestingly, Almost all non-Marvel and DC comics (and a lot of them have been doing shit lately too) in the US sell crap compared to Archie, which basically sells like gangbusters. The reason? Archie tends to be sold in places like grocery stores along with magazines and in newsagents that don't carry other comics.

Everybody's going to line up to buy the new Fag Archie comics; they'll be the coolest children in their education receptacle

Heh. I wonder how many grocery stores and newsagents will refuse to stock this edition.

Seriously though, if this has at all been advertised I can't see it as anything other than a shallow publicity stunt.

Just like The Simpsons' overpromoted and rather dull gay episode.

The Simpsons had a gay character on back in the 90s, Homer started off liking him but ended up hating him because he was afraid he'd make Bart gay. I remember the episode well.

EDIT: And by 'Well' I do of course mean 'Basic premise'.

I meant the famous 'coming out' episode that was promoted months in advance so that people could theorise and place bets on who it could be. And then we all were resolutely unsurprised when it turned out to be Patty.

So famous I've never heard of it.

As I said, this isn't the Bronze Age of Superheroes. Advertising things like this as something out of the ordinary is an unfortunate implication in itself.

Unless it's a coming of age/out of the closet story, that's about as much space such an announcement needs.

Maybe he'll even become famous. It's not like there are any gay super famous comic book heroes around all ready...
