I'm looking for some interesting stuff to finish off Abbey's Christmas gifts, and wondered if anyone has any suggestions. I'm going to put forth some criteria, though.

1. Don't suggest something that I will have to ship from overseas (this means you, Strike Witch). That sort of thing gets really backed up this time of year, and I don't want to take any chances on it being late.

2. Don't suggest things that I am obviously aware of, such as Transformers (this means you, Strike Witch, and Kastere).

Other than that, suggest away!

She likes monsters, and aliens, and stuff like that. Not a real girly girl.

i had one of these in 2000. a lot simpler and the display was black and white, but hours of fucking fun.

i honestly cant think of anything else. i just keep going from metal detectors to air rifles. almost suggested a slingshot.

I would suggest Lego. Six-year-olds just can't get enough of that taste.

As a kid, I also only played with monsters and boy'ish toys.
I mostly liked creatures rather than humans though. But I had a few spider-man toys cos they had cool features :p Like sliding from one spot to another with his "web".
If your daughter likes features, like I did, then give her something that's interesting and explorable.
At that age I was also fascinated with lifesized things. I remember for either my birthday or christmas, I chose this giant rabbit-puppet that I still have. I liked being able to interact with things my size. I could even dance with them.

Meh... But I'd always go for explorable things. Or maybe some toys that make cool "art". Stimulate your child's creativity =)

Edit: The Yoshi thing is super-cute.

Not a toy, but wonderful nonetheless, though Abbey might be a bit old for it. I just finished reading The Story of the Little Mole who knew it was None of his Business while taking a short break from my Lord of the Rings marathon. It is one of the greatest books I have ever read. A tour-de-force of biology and the quest for revenge. Can you believe it was once banned in the US?

Spore. She can brainstorm for hours.

What about an antique toy? Like one of those cheesy robots from the '50s? I got one of those when I was younger. Or maybe just some cool looking modern day tiny wind-up toys or something. I got some at Radioshack last year that looked pretty sweet.

What about some modeling clay or markers? I went through so many marker packets when I was her age.

Art book full of scince-fiction/fanasy drawings? I always liked getting those. I once got a book called Starquest that had both kick-ass drawings and had objects scattered throughut the page that you had to look for.

Strike Witch: She already has that exact Yoshi. I bought her a ton of Lego's for Christmas already, and she has guns, too.

Enchilado: Already bought lego's.

Tnex: I'm not buying her a fishing rod in December. I should probably get her some cool art shit, though.

Used: My computer doesn't run pc games very well, and she already has two big antique wind up robots.


To get rid of people recommending things that I already bought her, I am going to list her presents so far.

A lot of Legos.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
A bunch of Mario action figures.
A winter cap with the power-up mushroom on it.
A bunch of Kirby action figures, and a plush Kirby.
Stuffed Gerald and Piggy from the Elephant and Piggy books.
Pigeon backpack from the Pigeon books.
The Maw plushie.

Thought this looked interesting :p Though she may be too young for it, or not really be her style at all.

If she likes robots, how about some Gundam kits?

These guys are based in the US, I believe.

It's be something you'd have to put together together, but there's no glue or paint, it's just snap-fit and stickers. the finished models have some great posability and they look really cool.

I'd recommend this big guy, specifically because he's two robots in one.

Bionicles were damn fun, but JUST THE TOYS.

There was a robot-trend right before Bionicle from Lego that I liked more. MY firend used to get lots of them, and we'd make em together. Then play with them. The designs were so much cooler/dynamic.
Dunno... I never really liked bionicle. Maybe it's cos I think their masks are ugly.

Robo-riders, Slizers, or Throwbots?

Googled around a bit. Im pretty sure it was the Slizers... Don't remember exactly though :p But I think so.

They had em right before Bionicle started taking over. Then they slowly disappeared.

This is something I can honestly suggest in a non-nerdy way.

They're spring loaded, pretty small and simple to convert back into vehicles. It's the only Transformer I can recommend that happens to be eight kinds of kid friendly AND dirt cheap, apart from the Deluxe Animated figures, but I doubt she'd care for those.

Obviously I understand if you don't care either way, but I figured I'd throw it out there.


Otherwise, if she likes random monster/alien crap, pick up some Ben 10 Toys. I don't actually know much about them, but the designs are neat.

There's also some generic robot/monster things in the Iron Man: Armored Adventures toyline, also pretty cheap. Same with any residual crap from the new Astro Boy movie, neat designs etc...

I had them as a kid, I made thousands of them. I had boxes full of them. I definitely recommend them. It works sort of like an Easy-Bake oven, so there is a small burn hazard, but I know you'd never let her play with it by herself.

As for toys, Todd McFarlane puts out some insane figures, though some of them may be a bit too scary for Abbey. I dunno just how jaded she is yet, so I'll let you be the judge.

Christmas is a time for selectiveness in terms of toys. Most kids will want to play with them as soon as they're unwrapped, so naturally a slip-n-slide is sort of a no go.

I could picture some MacFarlane stuff being good kid fodder. There's some generic robot baddie from Spawn in bright ass colours.

The only problem is that MacFarlanes products tend to be fragile, statuesque bricks.

When I was little.. I really wanted Alien toys... The HR. Giger ones. But you can only find those as collectibles though :( Or at least they were nowhere to find in Denmark.

Buy her alien toys :D And then let her watch the movies! And she'll be alien-scarred forever like I was.

Yeah, the McFarlane toys got less and less practical and more about the complexity of the sculpt.

They were more action-figurey in the early 90's though, I recall.

At this point, Neca is the company that pulls ahead in both bitchin' sculpt and functionality. Their painters are a little sloppy sometimes though.

Until then, I'd say you could always go with pretty much anything from here. If that's not cute enough, I can personally say that these little guys tend to win just about everyone over.
