Another one of those rep question thread things

sorry if this has been answered in a previous rep discussion thread, but i did skim through a load and didn't find the answer i was looking for.

just how does the rep limit work? yesterday i hit the limit, came back today and i was still apparently 'at the limit'. then it lowered, i repped 2 people that i had been meaning to do for a while, and now its back saying "You have given out too much reputation in the last 24 hours".

how does it work? so i can get a better gist of it. i know about the '10 reps a day' rule and spreading it to 5 other members (if i'm not mistaken). i thought once 24 hours had passed it would be cleared, but i got confused when it blocked me again after just 2 reps.

and if anyone else has stuff about rep stuff, post that stuff here.

enchilado 12-03-2009 03:31 PM

I think after giving someone rep you need to rep two other people before you do 'em again (not 5). I think. I learnt that when I worked Ackro back up to positive reputation.

I wouldn't mind knowing what affects your rep power. Is it your time on the forum or something?

used:) 12-03-2009 03:34 PM

It's like a combination of years spent on the forum, post count, and I think how much rep you have yourself.

:

The rep powers are now calculated as follows:
1 point for joining
1 point for each year the person has been a member.
1 point for each 1000 posts.
1 point for each 500 rep points.

This even things out a lot and also puts a higher weight on a member's history with the forum rather than simple popularity.

from here.

wont let me quote it directly, but i removed the stuff about the previous rep system to avoid confusion.

Thanks :)

The rep limits are:
  • Maximum of 10 reps 'in a 24 hour period' (as quoted from vBulletin options)
  • You must give to three other people before repeat repping an individual.

I'm not sure whether the 24 hour period is rolling, or from midnight to midnight in your local time.

MA 12-03-2009 04:53 PM

pretty sure its rolling then. tested it and its just done it again. though i repped an hour or so ago, i definitely didn't rep 10 times between now and earlier when it stopped me.

Nate 12-03-2009 05:06 PM

How the hell are there ten posts a day that you think are worthy of rep?!

I think we should lower that limit.

enchilado 12-03-2009 05:09 PM

Make it you get to rep once for every point of Rep Power you have.

Wil 12-03-2009 05:14 PM

Yes, that's probably lower than ten.

i have never come across it myself before, hence the thread asking how it works. it isn't a habit of mine.

but now i know how it works.

In his case it is.

Wil 12-04-2009 03:01 AM

I misread.

OANST 12-04-2009 07:59 AM

All I know is that Nate is doing his damnedest to keep my rep in check. So fucking MEAN.

shaman 12-04-2009 08:08 AM

What is he? Some kind of traitor?

MA 12-04-2009 08:10 AM

He got you, cunt.

OANST 12-04-2009 08:41 AM

Do you guys realize that I would have 60 rep points right now if they hadn't changed the system? I have to agree that this would be a ridiculous amount.

MA 12-04-2009 08:48 AM

i would have 23. i think the easiest way to roughly work it out is to treble your current rep power, as the current system seems to more or less third the old one.

The easiest way to figure it out is to subtract the amount of points that you have gotten from rep from the number of points that you would have from rep if we were using the old system. Then add the actual number that you have now.

MA 12-04-2009 08:57 AM

Does that take into account the lower rep power of the people repping you?

Wings of Fire 12-04-2009 09:01 AM

I think the new system is crap because I'm blatently a better class of person than Used.

wow. i fucked that up. what a load of horse shit.

must have been a coincidence mine and OANST's rep power would be roughly the same when trebled as it would if worked out properly.

shaman 12-04-2009 09:52 AM

I would have nine. Which is rather ridiculous. Almost makes me look on topic.

abe is now! 12-04-2009 09:59 AM

My question is, how many rep points can anyone get? I mean, is there a limit to that?

OANST 12-04-2009 10:21 AM

No, it doesn't. Holy shit, I would be over 100 by now.

Well, this web site seems to have a lot of information on the rolling 24 hour period. It's actually all about internet website rolling.

enchilado 12-04-2009 09:38 PM

Cut with the YouTube poop.

Pilot 12-04-2009 09:42 PM
