So Discriminative!

In my precious HoneyBee is it possible to display the amount of rep one has, as it is annoying to switch to native just to find out.

OANST 11-20-2009 02:34 PM

There are a lot of things that the other skins have that honeybee does not. I also only use honeybee, as the others look like half dried puke.

Havoc 11-20-2009 02:48 PM

Christ, people still use that old piece of garbage?

Sekto Springs 11-20-2009 02:56 PM

I'll design a new one.
I've gotten much better at it since the old banner-makin' days.

Pilot 11-20-2009 03:30 PM

Yeah, click the rep button (icon with the little scales) in one of your own posts.

used:) 11-20-2009 04:40 PM

Use a better skin, like Inudstrial. The only one that doesn't look like vomit.

Pilot 11-20-2009 04:53 PM

I've just started using industrial. I like it. I can't stand HUNNYbee, and Native was just getting old.

Nate 11-20-2009 05:08 PM

No skinfighting in this thread. It's the most boring discussion we've ever had on a hundred seperate occassions.

how to be incredibly peripheral and obnoxious in a thread, by Havoc.

enchilado 11-20-2009 07:25 PM

Are themes coded in CSS? I haven't a clue how but I could figure it out and make a new theme. I have a sense of style... though, I like Native. Industrial looks nice too. Honeybee's okay, but I can't see the difference between that and Munch's Oddysee...

~anyone like the idea of a brown-and-yellow Stranger's Wrath theme?
Enchilado

Wings of Fire 11-20-2009 07:52 PM

I used Native for a year and then Industrial for the last year, I prefer Industrial but to my mind Native is the ONLY SKIN that lets you search through blogs from the top bar.

Except it is an old piece of garbage.

Sekto Springs 11-20-2009 09:35 PM

Ive always used industrial, though I do genuinely think a new skin is in order. Or at the very least, a new banner.

enchilado 11-20-2009 09:37 PM

I'll make a new skin. Gimme the current CSS file and I'll edit it.

~it will be called "Stranger's Theme" and will be creamy shades of brown.

And thus, another skin shall be added to the "Looks like Offal" pile.

Sekto Springs 11-20-2009 09:43 PM

Yeah. Perhaps you should provide a little portfolio before hiring yourself for this position, Enchilado.

We don't want a banner made in MS Paint.

enchilado 11-20-2009 09:43 PM

Enough offal and we shall have... a horde of attacking fleeches?

~aw geez, maybe I'd best forget it.
Enchilado

EDIT: Mr Sekto posted. What's a portfolio? And what's wrong with MS Paint? Though I don't use that, I use Microsoft Office's built-in Icon Editor.

Sekto Springs 11-20-2009 09:45 PM

Y'all know I'm decent at making banners. That was ages ago though.
I would whip something up if there's demand, but it doesn't seem that there is.

At this point I think I owe this forum something.

Also, the outdated buttons. How many people go to Oddchat anymore? Update it to Oddworld Encyclopedia, Cinema, Gallery.

Whats a portfolio? Are you serious? You know like... a collection of your previous work to show someone who may be interested in hiring you for a service. If I'm an artist, I can't just walk into a business and tell him I'm an artist and expect to get hired - he's going to want to see my artwork.
And MS Paint sucks because... do I need to explain? Compare MS Paint to Photoshop in functionality and get back to me.

abe is now! 11-21-2009 02:39 AM

enchilado 11-21-2009 02:46 AM

Mr Sekto, shall we make a new theme together?

~a yellowy-brown one sounds good to me. And I actually use the GIMP :P

How to point out that people are pointing out the obvious, by Havoc.

I had a huge battle on my hands just to get the Oddworld Library up there in the first place.

I demand a CS skin.

used:) 11-21-2009 06:45 AM

A CS skin? Before it's even released, let alone confirmed to exist?

I'd make a new skin if I knew how.

MeechMunchie 11-21-2009 08:08 AM

Native is the only skin for me. Cool as Industrial is, the neutral colours of Native are easy on the eyes, good for extended reading. I'm pretty sure the skin members use affects their avatar choice. Most people who use the Ind. skin have light or dark avs, while Nat. users seem to pick more neutral colours. I know Murray looks better on green, anyway.

Wil 11-21-2009 09:28 AM

Native hurts my eyes. So little contrast.

Sekto Springs 11-21-2009 11:20 AM

A CS Skin isn't an impossibility, there's enough concept art to capture the atmosphere.
A Stranger's Wrath one isn't a bad idea either, though I think to play it a little less cliched I'd go with a cool color pallet as opposed to warm browns and oranges.
Either way, if I'm given some basic proportions (pixel x pixel) I could easily produce an eye-pleasing banner.

I'm not sure whether or not this affects the amount of bandwidth the forums has to offer, but exactly how many forum themes can you have offered? Like... would it slow anything down if there were several different themes running at once?

Havoc 11-21-2009 12:37 PM

We already have multiple themes in use right now, so no, it would not be a problem. Making a forum skin isn't very hard, but I find that it's a lot easier to do with access to the actual code so I can refresh and see what I'm doing.

I personally thing that this image could be a nice basis for a CS theme, like in the banner.

Sekto Springs 11-21-2009 01:16 PM

Yeah, I'm a big fan of soft warm colors like that. Would look really nice with a black, gold, gray theme.

I also wouldn't neglect to keep that subtle interlacing effect you have on the banner and background consistent with the new designs. Its become such a subtle yet recognizable trait of this forum's design.

No, that only allows me to see my own rep. I want to see other's.

Can I have Native's CSS file for me to play with?

Indeed you can. Or you can just copy paste what I just posted into an editor.

Well obviously... what I meant was I could have got it myself. Anyway. Bye for now.

Everyone will use my theme... EVERYONE...

I wouldn't skin anything. We'll be upgrading to vBulletin 4 within the next 2 or 3 months. Completely different styling system, poor Kristen has already lamented about the extra work :p

God I can see the the chaos of the new layout now. People will be forever traumatized. I still don't know if I like this:

I guess it looks funky but from a designers standpoint it's a nightmare to revert all your themes and stuff. Will the current themes be modified for VB4 or will we get completely new ones?

Alcar 11-21-2009 07:23 PM

Those images are of the design Kier Darby designed for vBulletin 4, but alas, wasn't chosen as the final style. You can see the current design at: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/.

I prefer Kier's :(
