What is your favourite stage production/musical?

Blood Brothers, if you haven't heard of it you should either learn some culture or stop not being British.

You guys?

Pilot 10-29-2009 07:29 PM

The Farnsworth Invention- the story of the young boy who invented electronic television.

Haven't actually seen it yes, but I am dying to. :D

Ah, found a "trailer" for the production. Hank Azaria is in it.

Alcar 10-29-2009 07:49 PM

I haven't seen very many, so ignore my popular choice :p

Wicked. Saw it in London first, and very recently saw the Sydney production.

Alcar...

Never have been interested in theatre, but famous playwright Neil LeBute is coming to speak at my college tomorrow I'm going to ask him where he gets his ideas, if I can.

Sekto Springs 10-29-2009 09:20 PM

Farnsworth, at least that particular rendition, looks really over-acted. But then again, AZARIA FTW. Also, Justin, it doesn't look like there are going to be repeat performances.

Does Spam-A-Lot count? I don't really enjoy theatre in the least.

Leto 10-29-2009 09:50 PM

i wrote a postrock opera, but it has never been performed

moxco 10-29-2009 09:56 PM

I've never heard about such Operas... But that's pretty cool... Are you serious? o_o

Sekto Springs 10-29-2009 09:57 PM

I could see it. Leto is musically inclined, but he's also an A+ bullshitter.

Leto 10-29-2009 10:15 PM

i liked post rock and was inspired after seeing la boheme.

i bullshit you not. :|

Nate 10-29-2009 11:58 PM

So, you wrote the musical Rent?

Josh 10-30-2009 02:29 AM

Hairspray. I saw the musical, then the movie.

Bullet Magnet 10-30-2009 03:59 AM

I love The Little Shop of Horrors and Les Misérables.

OddjobAbe 10-30-2009 05:01 AM

Trial of Davros. Call me sad, but I fucking loved that.

I'd like to thank Sekto for reminding me of Spam-A-Lot. I loved that.

Oh that's it. You just won.

shaman 10-30-2009 09:57 AM

Either "City of one" or "Blood brothers".

Good shows, good shows.

Sekto Springs 10-30-2009 12:34 PM

Do ballets or ice shows count?

OANST 10-30-2009 12:39 PM

Lion King on ice does. BEST SHOW EVER!!!

Sekto Springs 10-30-2009 01:08 PM

Lion King on ice? That seems kind of redundant considering the much more prestigious, stylized Broadway production.

MA 10-30-2009 01:14 PM

i thought he was taking the piss.

You know? I've always wanted to see that. :)

Sekto Springs 10-30-2009 01:34 PM

Of course he's taking the piss, and I'm standing right there with him crossing the streams.

OANST 10-30-2009 01:38 PM

Mollucks assistant deserves negrep...........FOR THINKING THAT I AM NOT 100% SERIOUS ABOUT MY LOVE OF LION KING ON ICE!

MA 10-30-2009 01:38 PM

i usually miss the point. because someone has to be there to miss the point. and i missed it quite successfully. do you see my point?

EDIT: RAPID POSTER

EDIT 2: Lion Kin? is that the cheap, rip-off version?

Sekto Springs 10-30-2009 01:41 PM

Lion King on ice? Isn't that a type of drink?

*snort*

MA 10-30-2009 01:44 PM

oooh...that was a move only OddjobAbe would usually make, OANST.

OANST 10-30-2009 01:46 PM

I thought I changed it before anyone noticed.

Hobo 10-30-2009 05:05 PM

Well, Cabaret reminds me of this forum...

I demand to know what this move was.

I had a typo that I immediately fixed. I had written Lion Kin instead of Lion King.

OddjobAbe 10-31-2009 10:24 AM

Thank goodness you fixed it. Every time I came in this thread, it would have bugged me.

Leto 10-31-2009 01:42 PM

then maybe you should idk get a life lol?

OddjobAbe 10-31-2009 04:08 PM

Well put. I can't argue with that.

Leto 10-31-2009 07:02 PM

lol.

So, you wrote the musical Rent?

not really, it was completely unrelated to la boheme, i just felt the need to write something after i saw it performed.

Have it performed! Srsly :D I bet it's a good thing to have in your bag once you get out there and experience life, looking for jobs and stuff...

Anyway I haven't watched too many things, but I did love Les Miserables.... It gave me goosebumps tihi :D.

Musicals: Wicked (saw the original Broadway cast in seventh grade), West Side Story (saw the revival this spring on Broadway), Avenue Q (still have yet to see the live production), The Lion King (not on ice), Happy End, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (if it were actually a stage production).

A lot of contemporary operas such as Glass's Einstein on the Beach and Adams's Dr. Atomic will probably go on that list once I finally sit down and listen to/watch them. I already really like the music from Glass's Akhnaten and Satyagraha, and actually got to hear parts of the live broadcast of Satyagraha from the Met in April of 08.

Others: Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil: (Alegria and Corteo), and Blast (my inner band geek is responsible for that).

Fuck Les Mis.

Sekto Springs 11-01-2009 09:40 AM

You know what's ironic about Cirque du Soleil? They aren't big in France because the french consider it "boring".
