Abe '99 (PS1) on sale for $180
http://www.japangamestock.com/buy_vi...oducts_id=5517
As you can see, it's fairly expensive. As much as I love Oddworld, I won't be buying it. It's pretty much first come, first served. I bought Abe A GoGo from that site and it disappeared from the site immediately (ie. that was the last one in stock). I have no idea of how many copies of this game they have. Judging by the price I'd say they're down to their last copy (but don't hold me to that!). Just thought I'd let everyone know that it's there anyway, even if it isn't the cheapest copy avaliable. |
Rip off, this thing is Abe's Exoddus and you can buy that for a few bucks.
Yeah but;
1) it's on the PS1 2) it's Japanese |
Hmm, apparently Amazon.co.jp lists it for about the same price
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%AA%E3...4137999&sr=1-1 I have no idea why it's so high, I guess it really must be rare |
I would say it's because they're not planning to create any more discs. Either way, the Japanese version of Exoddus seems much rarer than the English version. Perhaps it arrived quite late in the PS1 market?
Japanese stuff is awesome. I'd pay extra, if I had any money.
Shouldn't this be on the BUY list?
Only for fanatics
Seen 'em go for about the same price on ebay, sometimes listed at higher (saw a copy on there for over $200). Abe A GoGo is cheaper ^^;
how much is AO PS1 worth? I see it at £24.99 once that's not bad, i got it for free, I no AbeAgogo is quite expensive for PAL
:
2) So what? :
Fact is it's hard to come by, and since there's clearly at least some demand for it, they can afford to charge a fair bit for it.
:
No, even when I was that young I had better things to buy. Them cards are a big money making scheme.
I still don't get the whole Japanese thing though? |
:
O_O You have never had them? FREAK! |
At least I was smart and didn't waste money on overpriced printed cardboard.
Basically, the Japanese version of Abe's Exoddus for PS1 is rarer than the English version.
:
Pokemon or not, we all make stupid purchases. I was into Pokemon for a brief stint, but I never actually played the card game. In total, I spent a combined sum of my parents' and I's money somewhere in the venue of 500 bones. I also owned Pokemon blue, red, and yellow although I never played any of them through to the end. I grew out of it pretty fast, and I'm happy to say I never "moved on" to Yugi-Oh! or Magic as many of my friends had tended to do. |

"Now now, gentlegluks. Let's not argue over who gets what"
"Screw you AlexFil-er.... Aslik!"
the problem is would it work on a English Psone?
:
Depends entirely on whether your PSX checks for regions.
You can use a swapdisk to play games from other regions.
Ah. I didn't know about either of those things.
But hey, if it's that rare it'll probably be bought for a collection, so I doubt it'd get played anyway. |
What's the difference between Abe'99 and Abe's Exoddus?
Aside from the language it's in, nothing noteworthy. It's just a title (and boxart) change to make it more accessible to Japanese people.
But why this change? And why did they want OWI to change Abe's fingers' number?
Because GT Interactive were very good at localization, and they knew what would appeal to a Japanese audience. Their tastes differ. Live with it.
And once again I point you to this: http://oddworldlibrary.net/toe/FAQ#W...be%27s_Exoddus |
A short while ago, games were dubbed and localized into whatever region that the games got ported to.
Doki Doki Panic (JPN) became Super Mario Bros 2 (USA). Companies still make Multi 4/5/6 games which contain a variety of (european) languages. Childrens films are also often dubbed (because the kids are too young/inexperienced to read subtitles). |
In those days Abe'99 was unpopular among Japan gamers.
the Sales have only picked up 3000-6000 pieces.... But in recent years Japan gamers seem to have been reevaluating overseas videogames. Abe'99 is given the respect, much like its predecessor, of a God game or Kamige(=Godly game), that is the highest level of achievement, a masterpiece. atusi's father |
M.U.L.E. was freaking awesome btw, if any game needs a remake... that does.
Um, I wouldn't call this "re-evaluating overseas videogames". This is pure and simple milking the customer because the game is rare! |
That's Japanese people "re-evaluating [the greatness of] overseas videogames", AlexFili, not sellers re-evaluating how much they can charge. Although if it's rare and sought after, of course they're going to charge a lot. It stands to every reason.
