Oddworld Merch?

Hey, I was just wandering, what types of oddworld merchandise is there?

I know theres tee's, the games....But what else? And what type of merchandise SHOULD they make, like oddworld mugs, oddworld-styled laptops (kind of like that commercial where they are all dancing about with there customized laptops, except there would be a badass oddworld background already in the back and other types of things...Yeah) and oddworld backpacks? :O

Any suggestions, people?

You're lying.

Change my mind with a soundbite.

OddjobAbe 05-08-2009 11:50 PM

There's an image in another thread.

Dixanadu 05-09-2009 12:08 AM

Do they make Abe plushies? That'd be sweeeeeet.

AlexFili 05-09-2009 01:48 AM

I can confirm that Abe's Exoddus whoopie cushions exist. It was on ebay the other week.

Bullet Magnet 05-09-2009 03:58 AM

The AE whoopee cushions were recalled due to poor quality.

Xavier 05-09-2009 04:08 AM

live ammo pluchies...

Wil 05-09-2009 04:40 AM

The AO whoopie cushions were recalled due to poor quality. The AE whoopie cushions made it out there.

oddworld mugs

A mug that looks like a mug? Or a mug with a picture of a mug?

Guekko 05-09-2009 06:39 PM

I've got an AE whoopie cushion around somewhere...somewhere being the operative word.

What there need to be are toys, like an Abe figure or a Slig one. Molluck with removable suit...

Crashpunk 05-10-2009 12:24 AM

theres Abe's oddysee T-shirts oh and i've seen a Soulstorm brew glass, thing

Jordan 05-10-2009 01:20 AM

To be honest, if new Oddworld merchandise came out I probably wouldn't buy it. The reason I'd like to have merchandise is because it's rare and limited, but if it's new, wouldn't everyone have them?

Phylum 05-10-2009 01:33 AM

So you'd be a non-conformist?

I would defiantly buy any Oddworld merchandise if the opportunity arose.

MeechMunchie 05-10-2009 04:36 AM

One German company started making abe statuettes, but they weren't licenced so OWI made them stop.

Saw one of them going on ebay once, went for tons of money ^^;

Xavier 05-10-2009 10:21 PM

I don't even like that Abe statuette, it feels like it lacks something, it feels unfinished.

started making abe statuettes

Notice the word started :P

MeechMunchie 05-10-2009 11:11 PM

Weren't there also real life versions of Magog Cartel products, which were supposedly even more disgusting than the fictional ones?

Wil 05-11-2009 01:32 AM

Those unlicensed Abe statues sure are ugly and off-model. I wouldn’t want one.

AlexFili 05-11-2009 01:58 AM

I might make myself a Slig hand-puppet one of these days.

OddjobAbe 05-11-2009 06:39 AM

Sooty, Sweep, Sue and Slig? I like it. I like it very much.

Crashpunk 05-11-2009 08:00 AM

Anyone know were i can get a AO or AE poster? i really want it.

STM 05-11-2009 08:14 AM

I have the oddworld book and it says there are: Mugs, whoopie cushios, drinks, bottles, elum chub jerky, scrab jerky, paramite jerky, renegade german company made oddworld figures only like 10 around go for £3k

Guekko 05-11-2009 11:10 AM

I used to have an AE poster (Abe's wanted poster) I pilfered from a magazine when I first got the game...probably very hard to find now though

You may be new, but you must stick to the topic. There are different parts of the forum for different discussions. I would seriously consider looking at the rules and what have you before posting, or you'll likely piss people off.

MA 05-11-2009 01:36 PM

too late, he pissed me off.
top tip: use emoticons and literature symbols in moderation.

@Scrabtrapman: is that the Oddworld Inhabitants artwork book, or something else?

One German company started making abe statuettes, but they weren't licenced so OWI made them stop.

What is unfortunate is that OWI stopped them but didn't produce statuettes themselves; no one was better off with the statuettes not being sold anymore.

Nate 05-16-2009 10:12 PM

OWI were better off because the marketplace was not being flooded with poor quality merchandise that would reflect badly on them as a company.

I doubt it would somehow affect them badly; it's not like all the crappy Disney unofficial merchandise reflects badly on Disney.

Wings of Fire 05-18-2009 05:54 AM

As a company, OWI was a fraction of the size Disney was in terms of wealth and popularity.

ArtemisPanthar 05-18-2009 08:33 AM

I have a vague recollection of a small catalog being in the back of the Abe's Exoddus manual. I think they sold shirts with the different mudokon cartoon expression faces on them.

What is unfortunate is that OWI stopped them but didn't produce statuettes themselves; no one was better off with the statuettes not being sold anymore.

Actually, OWI was better off. They own the exclusive rights to the Oddworld intellectual property and all the species/characters/environments. The statuettes were being illegally produced without permission or contract with the intent to profit (technically, fanart and fan fiction infringe on copyrights but because of their harmless nature, and the fact that it reflects negatively on an individual to prevent such things, people rarely go after fanartists. Try and sell fanart/fanfiction and you enter dangerous waters).
Perhaps OWI intended/intends to make their own statuettes. Perhaps not. But a self-respecting company doesn't let someone wreck havoc on their intellectual property. Without a contract, there's no quality control, and poor work would reflect negatively on them because people assume they're properly licensed.

Disney rabidly sues (or sends cease and desist) companies that illegally produce Disney products. Its just that, since Disney is a huge property, there are many more companies illegally producing products and they can't get them all (especially since copyright laws get hazy outside of the native country). OWI had to deal with one, which is much easier to handle.

Xavier 05-18-2009 09:10 AM

yup this guy is right... best first post since a long time
