Favorite Celebrities?

Some of my favorites are the musician P!nk and the actor Jack Davenport. I've also recently enjoyed watching films with Clive Owen and Matt Damon.

Who are your favorite celebrities/musicians/actors and how do they relate to you?

OANST 04-23-2009 12:06 PM

I really like Mandy Moore and Jason Statham. They are tops.

Jordan 04-23-2009 12:11 PM

Mine is Jennifer Aniston because she's fucking beautiful.

This And Jason Statham.

Let's not forget Jason Statham.

OddjobAbe 04-23-2009 12:28 PM

They're all fuckers.

OANST 04-23-2009 12:30 PM

Not Jason Statham. I may have mentioned that he's tops.

Edit: Kastere, have you ever noticed that 90 percent of my posts hearken back to our late night Live conversations? You must have a profound affect on my psyche.

OddjobAbe 04-23-2009 12:31 PM

99.99% of them are fuckers.

Much more reasonable.

Evidently so. I'm the raccoons in your proverbial attic.

Also, Crank 2 was pretty much just a big ol' lump of stupid. I liked it, of course, but only because it knew how awful it would be if it didn't know that it knew that it was awful.

OANST 04-23-2009 12:51 PM

Ahhhh, Crank 2. It is so the Empire Strikes Back of the equation.

Wings of Fire 04-23-2009 04:55 PM

Cat Stevens and Harrison Ford immediately spring to mind.

OddjobAbe 04-24-2009 01:02 AM

Those two are definitely not fuckers.

AlexFili 04-24-2009 03:36 AM

Ewan McGregor and Vin Diesel are quite cool individuals. Both have been in some really good Sci-Fi films. Some less well known actors I like are William Hurt (Who was in "Lost in Space" and is in the current series of Damages) and Željko Ivanek (Emile Danko in Heroes, Ray Fisk in Damages)

Bullet Magnet 04-24-2009 05:45 AM

David Attenborough, Steven Hawking and Daniel Dennett come immediately to mind.

Wings of Fire 04-24-2009 05:49 AM

Does Steven Hawking actually count? I mean you'd think the scientist label supersedes the celebrity one.

OANST 04-24-2009 06:24 AM

Oh yes, let's turn this into a serious discussion. Let's.

OddjobAbe 04-24-2009 06:27 AM

Yes, let's. I can't stand "celebrities" that are in the public eye, because that usually means that they're complete imbeciles.

It does. It harks back to a simpler time when celebrities were celebrities because they were accomplished and valuable to society.

If indeed such a time actually existed and I am not simply seeing the past through rose-tinted contact lenses.

OANST 04-24-2009 08:07 AM

And Mandy Moore isn't valuable to society? Get this shit straight.

I've always thought celebrity meant 'Someone who is famous for being famous', hence why I chose both a singer and an actor who are quite famous for being famous.

OANST 04-24-2009 08:33 AM

Cat Stevens made quite a bit of beautiful music. I wouldn't call that being famous for being famous.

Bullet Magnet 04-24-2009 08:34 AM

Mine are famous for their accomplishments, but I suppose they have reached a critical value of fame whereby enough people know about them for everyone else to hear about them. Even if Stephen Hawking enjoys a portion of Richard Dawkins' hate mail.

I'm the last person in the world to dispute that fact, but for most people today he's 'That crackpot who converted to Islam'. Fucking ignorant xenophobic media and fucking youtube commenters.

AlexFili 04-24-2009 08:50 AM

I take the term Celebrity to mean someone who is famous for something, whether they be actor, singer, dancer, musician, scientist, etc...

I have seriously contemplated sending hate mail to Hawking. He has no idea what he's on about. He writes a book on a theory, then later, he writes a book saying that that theory was bullshit. I don't like people trying to screw with my head.

AlexFili 04-24-2009 09:06 AM

Scientists are always contradicting themselves.

OddjobAbe 04-24-2009 09:07 AM

I know you can blunder, or at least have a few theories, but to say that all of what you just said is bullshit is taking it too far.

Wings of Fire 04-24-2009 09:19 AM

That's the only thing seperating him from a priest. Cultural standards and norms, for some obscure reason, appeal to our innate sense of pride by telling us that changing our minds is wrong and that we should stick unquestionably to our assumptions to the end, regardless of evidence and experience.

People who follow these norms live in blissful blissful ignorance, the rest of us, the naturally born scientists, thinkers, artists and philosophers spend our evenings reading, puzzling and getting migraines.

OddjobAbe 04-24-2009 09:30 AM

I'm not sure how you want me to interpret that, but just to be clear, I am not opposed to folk changing their minds. I agree that people must think properly, but I find it irritating how we read a whole book, think "how interesting", and then discover that what was interesting and plausible may in fact be utter tosh.

But, looking at what I have written in my last posts, I do appear to have been talking shit, and I'll be the first to admit that now.

Wings of Fire 04-24-2009 09:38 AM

I merely meant to say that any major change in scientific advancement should be celebrated, not viewed as some kind of academic betrayel, Hawkings earlier books, after all, provided important groundwork for his later theories. The fact that he had the scientific integrity to admit that he wrote books full of disproven theories puts him a step above so called scientists like Skinner who went to his death in the 60s with an almost religious like conviction that all human behaviour was learnt from our parents and our peers. Even though these theories of his had been disproved decades ago.

I apologize if I came off sounding arrogant or fauxophical, I'm in an introspective mood today D:.

OddjobAbe 04-24-2009 09:40 AM

No, you didn't come across as either. I was just trying to make sure I knew what you were saying. You all know that I'm a bit poor when it comes to using my head.

But yes, you're right. after looking over what I said, I realise that.

Crashpunk 04-24-2009 09:44 AM

I always like Scatman john, shame he died. the Celebrities of today are all idiots cough cough Jade goody, deserved to die.

Fuzzle Guy 04-24-2009 09:49 AM

At the risk of sounding like a waste of space, my favourite celebrities are Jonathan Ross and Chris Moyles.

Jonathan Ross because he is really quick and witty and despite being a multi-millionaire, is still a normal person, and he always has time for his fans. He never forgets that they're the reason he's where he is today. I don't want to dwell on him too much. I have an unhealthy obsession for the man. I felt had I said "His dress sense, his cheeky smile, the way he plays with his hair when talking to the audience..." and so on and so forth, would have been ever so slightly creepy.

Chris Moyles, who I feel I have to defend my choice before being told I'm a chav and should burn in hell, has changed an awful lot in the last year. When I first started listening to him, I didn't like him much. He was rude, arrogant and had an ego bigger than his belly. But in the last year he's grown up, matured, climbed a mountain, and is no longer the bolshy, in your face character that the majority of the public in the UK think he still is. I wake up to him every weekday morning so I suppose I've had to grow to like him. :p

On that score I'd like to name Angus Daeyton. Watch the full episode of HIGNFY after the prostitute scandal and you'll see how well he takes Hislop and Merton's jokes like a man.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO GIVE A SPECIAL MENTION TO BRIAN BLESSED, Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg as actors I massively look up to as well as Brian May, Leonard Cohen and Joe Hisaishi being musicians and composers in the same vein.

Fuzzle Guy 04-24-2009 10:08 AM

I feel quite sorry for Deayton at the moment. His career has died. He's just been given the boot from Would I lie to you? now in favour of someone more popular with a more youthful audience :(

It's a shame, because I really like him. I don't think there's a place for him back on HIGNFY, but there should definately be a prime time show somewhere belonging to him.

(Also, thanks for quoting me during my edit Joe =D)

I can't quit editing today: Your mention of HIGNFY has made me think Merton is on par with Moyles if not a little bit ahead. :p

Edits over.

AlexFili 04-24-2009 10:20 AM

I must admit, Moyles is my favorite DJ, with Scott Mills second.

OddjobAbe 04-25-2009 01:52 AM

John Coltrane was fucking awesome.

So was John Lennon.

And is Bruce Springsteen.

Anonyman! 04-25-2009 06:27 AM

John Lennon was mean to his kid. Repeatedly reminded him that he was accident. This does not roll with me.

Bruce Campbell.

OANST 04-25-2009 06:56 AM

Yeah, Julian had it tough.
