The cancelled games ...

I've searched for many topics that involved incomplete games, and the closest to this thing (that I could find atleast) is a few years old.

Well. We have no clue on what any future Oddworld game would be about, but if they were to actually make the mysterious incomplete games of Squeek's Oddysee, Brutal Ballad of Fangus (Not likely, but just imagine it), or Nod's Oddysee (VERY less likely) what would ya view gameplay and designs to be like?

I'm not sure how to start such a varying (and unoriginal ...) topic like this, so I'll just start by saying Squeek should be an aquatic female creature (Strictly opinion, specially since it's viewed as "he"). Possibly worm or insectile-like. After all, Squeek is said to have symbiosis, and that's mainly associated with small feeble animals. Unless we're talking about symbiosis as in two animals somehow workin' together.

Well, add on your ideas to any of these games. Hope this type of thing wasn't made recently .....

Mac Sirloin 01-21-2009 06:28 PM

I always thought Squeek would be a Grubb, for some reason.

Nod is a cool name, though.

Lacy Hemsmire 01-21-2009 06:33 PM

Ooooh. I kinda get it.

Of course, it could be that we're moving higher up in the chain. Maybe Nod was supposed to be a Glukkon or somethin'. I dunno.

Onoes.

Leto 01-21-2009 06:44 PM

I always thought Squeek would be small, pink and wormlike.

Phylum 01-21-2009 07:34 PM

to me squeak will always be small, round and fluffy. I thought this prior to my knowledge of fuzzles

Lacy Hemsmire 01-22-2009 01:00 AM

Squeek the Fuzzle 'd be freakin' awesome.

How about a rodent-like critter similar to a mouse? O: Not a rat but.. I dunno. And he can jump and grab things with his tail.

Oatmeal Head 01-22-2009 09:16 AM

I personally, would find it incredibly amusing if Squeek was not some small cute thing, but rather a large and dangerous thing with the personality of a small cute thing. But then again, that might be what they want us to think, we'll never know until it's made.

Bullet Magnet 01-22-2009 09:39 AM

Squeek's Oddysee was the original Oddworld story that was pitched to Sherry to start the company. Nod's Oddysee was never real. Hand of Odd was to use a version of the Munch engine, and Fangus was to use the Stranger engine.

OK, now this fascinates me. I wonder if Nate found out any more specific details on this from his interview with Lorne. Nate?

Wil 01-22-2009 10:44 AM

Try searching for ‘Squeek’ or ‘third’ in the interview.

Bullet Magnet 01-22-2009 10:47 AM

I don't have it to hand, but was it in Sherry's intro to the Art book?

Wil 01-22-2009 10:50 AM

Oh no, it was mentioned long, long before that. 20 February 2001, in fact:

OANST 01-22-2009 10:51 AM

I am Squeek. I noise?

I wish I could give rep for posts in the blogs. I would have repped his ass apart.

shaman 01-22-2009 11:34 AM

i always imagined sqeek as a rat and nod as an intern for some weird reason.

!!!!!!!OFF TOPIC!!!!!!!

OANST, not to be a hemroid or anything but how exactly can you moderate necrum burial grounds?

i mean...no ones alowed to post in there, what is there to moderate?

Bullet Magnet 01-22-2009 11:44 AM

Necrum is a morgue, and OANST's posts are Soylent Green.

Yeah I totally agree with this post

None of your concern, Shaman. All you need to know is that I'm doing it. I'm doing it real good.

Question me again and I will infract the shit out of you. This goes for all y'all mothafuckas!

Wil 01-22-2009 11:51 AM

No more off-topic, please. I want to talk more about Nod’s Oddysee.

CONSPIRICY!

anywayz on a more topical note. i found loads of stuff relating to "hand of odd"

it seems like they were on a roll with it, and i cant understand why it was cancelled.

Throw me a bone here.

shaman.

Bullet Magnet 01-22-2009 11:57 AM

Time. And Monies.

Wil 01-22-2009 11:59 AM

The Hand of Odd would have used all the ecosystem-emulating and GameSpeak-and-Status features of Munch’s Oddysee’s A.L.I.V.E. 2 game engine to make something akin to a real-time strategy game, only played using a character giving commands in person rather that a top-down interface like in a god game. In case you didn’t notice, all the ecosystem-emulating, GameSpeak-and-Status features were not present in the final version of MO because of various time and technical restraints. Hand of Odd could not possibly have come from it as they’d wanted.

shaman 01-22-2009 12:02 PM

money i can understand. i can let that slide. but for christ sake its not as though they had a deadline on them is it?!!! huh! is it?

fumes.

Developer studios are not magical places unbound by the limitations of reality. In fact, they have a few extras saved just for them.

Actually, deadline problems were a huge part of why MO was what it was. And what it was aint what we were told it was.

Dont crush my dreams.

What about "sligstorm"?

Discuss that! hah!

OANST 01-22-2009 12:17 PM

Discussing Sligstorm is a bannable offense.

I think there was a recent discussion of that, actually.

shaman 01-22-2009 12:19 PM

ooops. i didn't know.

lets dicuss nod's oddysee

OANST 01-22-2009 12:36 PM

For any newbies who aren't aware: I am not a mod. Do not take comments about me infracting and or banning you seriously.

I would actually love to play Sligstorm. It's the canceled game that interests me the most.

i could kill somone right about now.

Wil 01-22-2009 12:40 PM

There’s no such thing as Nod’s Oddysee. It comes from a very early interview, but it was so long ago I can’t remember who. Lorne finally declared it an untruthful rumour some time ago.

Yeah, to me it seems pretty interesting trying to figure out how a pantsless baby Slig would get out of there, and how the heck he'll survive once he escapes.

OANST 01-22-2009 12:45 PM

I would love to see them throw it together as a Live Arcade game. It would put them back in people's minds as they get ready to release their new stuff and shouldn't be all that costly.

Phylum 01-22-2009 02:40 PM

Sligstorm would be very fun to play. I can imagine having to sneak though factories to get to pants machines, or to just steal the pants from right under the slig :D

Venks 01-22-2009 02:41 PM

I never put much thought into what Squeek's Oddysee was about, but when I saw symbiotic I always remembered that picture of a bird and a rhino in a biology book. I always assumed Squeek being something small and insignificant like the bird, but without him the big rhino wouldn't be able to live.

Also due to my extreme love of Sligs I've also always wanted to see Sligstorm.

Fil The Slig 01-24-2009 12:48 AM

Nothing is known about Nod's Oddysee, except the hero will probably be called Nod.

:

The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot is a game that was thought to be an april fools joke, since an article said it would come out in 2004, but it never did.

:

Squeek's Oddysee was a planned story about a character called Squeek, who would be a hero, is low on the food chain and his species uses symbiosis. It wasn't known whenever this would be parasitic symbiosis like with an Oktigi, or mutualism, like with a clownfish and sea anemone.

:

SligStorm was to be a PS1 game that would've came along with the two first Oddworld games (Abe's Oddysee, Abe's Exoddus) in a combinated package. It would have followed the story of an albino slig grub or larva that needed to escape the slig birthing complex or be killed, since he was born as a mutant. It was planned to be made with the engine used in Abe's Oddysee, so it would've been like one of the Abe's Exoddus levels, probably with the larva like a crawling slig.

The game would have been as long as the level Slig Barracks in Abe's Exoddus, and would've featured about two minutes of cinematics.

Here is Information!

Didn't Lorne officially told us in an interview the fourth hero wasn't called nod?

Didn't Lorne officially told us in an interview the fourth hero wasn't called nod?

Yes. But there's nothing to stop us from dreaming.

Anyways, I remember reading an old post recently that spilled out some info about Fangus. Saying that Fangus (If it were to even be made at all) doesn't take place on Oddworld, but on a different planet where humans evolved from cats and dogs. Fangus is supposed to be a Bull Dog type guy, and the villians are invading cats from a Russian-esque place.

Xavier 01-25-2009 06:01 AM

Here's what Lorne said about that:

:

Nate: So it was meant to be on Oddworld though?

Lorne: It was a decision we had to make, we were waiting to say where. On the map, I knew where Fangus was happening. But I also wanted to give the crew a chance; there were a lot of people who were really excited about making their own game. So I gave them the ability to make their own game but they didn’t want to stick with this ‘crazy’ stuff, they wanted to go with some more human designs and I just lost interest. So I said that I was going let this run but if it’s going to be so human, it’s not going to be on Oddworld. What I really wanted to do was have it be on Oddworld but in a different location, where it would have its own mythology on the other side of the world. So… here are problems that happen in Alaska and those are things that take place in the Middle East. They really had nothing to do with one another.
