GotY - Game of the Year 2008
So what do you reckon should win the award for Game of the Year?
I haven't played all that much this year. Mostly cheap, short games off steam. To that end, my award for GotY goes to... World of Goo for absolutely rocking my socks every time I play, right from the moment the theme music starts. |
Jezus do you know what you're asking?
Hm. I think GTA IV is high up on my list of this years games. |
Tie between Dead Space and Bioshock. Both scared the shit out of me while still giving awesome gameplay.
|
Bioshock was 2007. Time flies, huh?
|
:
You have no idea. |
:
I'd say either Castle Crashers, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, or GoW2. |
Fallout 3?
yeah, probably. Left 4 Dead and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise were the only other '08 games I played last year, and both are pretty fun though Fallout takes the cheese |
I was surprisingly disappointed by Fallout. Oblivion with guns, minus trees and elves and shit... meh. Although I wasn't a fan before this game, so maybe that has something to do with it. I dunno!
Anywhoo, I haven't played many games this year either. Like, any new ones actually, save Fallout. Even so, I'm saying LittleBigPlanet. :D |
Left 4 dead because I can totally choke people from a distance.
LittleBigPlanet seemed like shit to me.It was just a platformer level editor. Granted, it's deep and fun, but it's not enough reason for me to buy it or the console required. I was planning to for FFXIII60, so it's not a foreign concept. |
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots!
Definitely. |
For me,its either GoW2,Dead space, or maybe GTA IV....
There are still some games i have not picked up yet that look good but them three are probally the best i've played from last year. |
I havn't played Saints Row 2 or GoW2 yet :(. Otherwise they might have been on my list.
|
I haven't played Fallout of L4D yet, although I've only heard good things.
My vote would have to be for Castle Crashers...If not for the pre-patch "game is no longer available" bullshit I got during 99% of the online co-op I tried to play. Wah. Gears was just stupid. The story was just as weak as the first installment, and the ending was crap. The Lambent Brumak was a twat. Also, fuck all of the Dom/Maria bullshit. And fuck Baird. I hate Baird. Baird is Cliffy B with polygons instead of DNA. If that makes sense. Online was decent. I loved scaring the crap out of people by pistol whipping tickers at them. GTA was okay, if not a bit dragged out. And the vehicle control went down the tubes. I hated spending time looking for a blista compact, but I hated the way the rest of the cars cornered in comparison. And I miss the character customization that came with San Andreas. Dead Space was lame. Everyone said it was scary. It wasn't. It was just boring. I nominate the teaser trailer for Bioshock 2 as far as GoTY goes. Even though it won't be out 'til late 2009. |
Braid. I love Braid.
|
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Littlebigplanet and Apollo Justice are the only three new games I've actually played this year.
So yeah, one of them. |
GoW2 or Banjo Kazooie N&B, Ive had more fun with them than any other game that came out this year.

It's ok, DI is hardcore.
|
Fallout 3.
|
A tie between GTA 4 and Fallout 3.
|
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, as it is the only game I've played this year. Also, because it is awesome.

Hard to say really... I have GTA4, L4D, Fable 2 and Fallout3. I can't really say which game is the best as I feel you can't really compare them, they just don't feel the same.
Some days I love Fallout 3 to death, but then the other days I don't feel like playing it at all and rather play L4D. |
L4D or MGS 4. (Fuck you I loved it)
Dead Space wasn't scary. To this day the only game series that has terrified me is Silent Hill. I mean, Dead Space lost it's fear factor after the first level thingy. It wasn't fun either. Fable II was alright. I'm a sucker though, and it pulled me in unfairly. I actually enjoyed Fallout 3, but not as a Fallout game. It simply doesn't seem like Fallout to me. My opinion was also lowered due to the Oblivion-ness being so obvious. I mean, it's pretty much a mod. But it was a fun mod. |
Fallout 3, Little Big Planet or GTA4
But certaintly not MSG4 though |
:
Little Big Planet is incredibly fun, definitely my next purchase! I'm curious were you an MGS fan before playing MGS4? If not that further proves my theory that it's only for the fans, which is fine but to most fans of the series it's like the second coming! Was it the cutscenes? |
I'm actually really curious to the 20 hours of cutscenes in MGS4. The story of MGS as a whole is said to be awsome.
|
Yes, but it's confusing and often stupid at the same time.
That said, Snake Eater is one of my favorite games. |
Metal Gear Solid is fucking stupid.
I say this as a fan of Japanese storylines. The first two games were okay, I hear Snake Eater was good, but 4 was just.... Whaaaat. Also, photo-taking minigames and J-pop from an iPod. Snake and Otacon raising a child together. Fanwank fanwank fanwank return to MGS. MGS1 was the shit, however, Psycho Mantis all the way. "I see you like to play Castlevania" I fucking jumped when he did that. |
Someone should add a poll to this topic so people can actually vote.
|
:
MGS1 + 2 = good. haven't played the others, except that horrible PSP port that was like a card game or some shit. |
I could see how some people could find the story confusing or ridiculous, and how fans of the MGS1 might've felt left out since the second game. Personally I liked all of them about the same which is a lot.
I always found conspiracy theories interesting which could be a reason why I find the story so interesting, but the characters are where the series really shines nobody can deny the fact that MGS has had some of the greatest boss battles the world has ever seen and I'm not just talking about the first game. ::fuzsmile: |
