Halo Wars
|
How is this news?
|
I thought people would like to talk and guess what it's gonna be like...
|
Age of Empires with lazors, you might have done better wording your original post as a question to start a discussion, rather than an announcement for a game that's been in the pipeline for well over a year.
|
Well its the swansong of Ensemble Studios,
It better be good |
Oh the cutscenes look fantastic in that game!
|
I have decided to avoid everything that is involved with Halo as if it were the very plague. I do not enjoy those games.

Forum Protip: How to quote multiple things at once:

I think somebody likes Halo.
Like OANST, I prefer to avoid anything Halo. It was fun at first, but quickly grew old. It's incredibly mainstream. It's like the gaming equivalent of X Factor, only not quite as bad. |
RTS... on console... does not compute. I mean... seriously it doesn't. Whoever came up with this trend of putting shooters and RTS' on consoles should die. Especially the one who decided to make them primarily for consoles and make the PC version a side show...
|
Shooters work quite well on consoles. That is, one built for consoles specifically in mind.
Though this looks like utter shit. They really should've learnt with that Quake Wars thing completely bombing that FPS to RTS just doesn't work. |
It does look shit.
I got bored of halo a while ago, once i completed no.3's story i have stopped playing it.The multiplayer is not one of my favs anyway.I still play COD4 online even though i have world at war.I think COD4 is way better. I do very rarely play it. |
Just watched my housemate play the demo. Looks atrociously dull.
|
I want to see a bonafide Halo flop. Other people's misery makes me smile.

Stop being such an elitist faggot, christ. |
This guy's more offensive than I ever was.
Will you be my boyfriend? |
You know what? I might get this just to spite you.
|
The reason Halo Wars is on 360 and not PC is cus ensemble studios is dying and by the time HW is realesed they will be dead. Dead companies can't run online servers.

Just based on some of the opinions of OWF members I'd say it'll have decent critical success, I'll be honest it looks fun. |

I went and actually played the demo before deciding to critique it. First off the cut scenes are THE BEST graphics I have ever seen on the 360. Not yet having access to all of the units I can't quite see the end result, but from what I've experienced thus far Halo Wars is looking to be a very promising game. Some units start with special abilities while those that upgrade gain access to them. From my perspective I see the game revolving around the use of these special abilities. The unit special abilities are used by pressing Y, while the leader abilities are accessed by a simple 'up' tab on the directional pad. Now while the leader abilities are powerful you can't command your troops in the duration of using them. So it's a tricky business juggling special ability cool downs and the commanding units or leader abilities. Another interesting aspect of the game is the construction and the management of your bases. You can only build your bases at certain spots on the map dedicated to base building. Therefor to gain access to multiple bases you will most likely be required to wipe out an opponent's base. Now in this game instead of gathering resources they are sent to you. To be able to receive these resources you need to construct a supply post on one of the designated areas beside your base. You only have so many designated areas to build your buildings so you must choose wisely. Finally the controls of this game are very simple and effective. You move the screen with the left analog stick while the selection tool remains in the center of the screen. So sometimes selecting a single unit while looking at the battle can be a tad more difficult then it needs to be. However Halo Wars has a unique selection system. By pressing the Left Button you select every unit you control. The Right Button selects every unit you control that is currently on screen. While these units are selected you can press the Right Trigger to control only a single unit-type. To move your selected units press the action button X. To attack an enemy you must also select them with X or be standing idly when attacked. To select a single unit or building you use the A button. Simple enough. If I were to give it a review score it would be: 8.5/10 |
Fuck you elitist people who hate a game when it gets popular.
Halo Wars will be awesome. /fanboi |

Games I would of missed out on had a relative or friend not talked me into trying it: Abe's Oddysee Halo Azure Dreams Final Fantasy Tactics Katamari Damacy Valkyrie Profile Suikoden I'm not saying: "Roar you must like this game because I do!" I'm saying you should give it a try before passing judgment. |

I'll never understand anti-mainstream people. Who dislike things just because it's popular. Is it because you try that hard to be an individual or something? Because their are hundreds of thousands of people who are disliking that thing for the exact same reason. An example I'll always remember is my friend used to be a pretty hard core fan of Naruto. He bought the manga as it came out and watched the japanese episodes as they were subbed. But as soon as the anime came over to America and obtained its fan base my friend stopped liking it altogether. I would ask him why he stopped liking it and he would say the fan base destroyed it for him. Now he doesn't actually know any American Naruto fans. He doesn't go to their forums or talk to them in any way. All they did was become interested in it like he was. |
What the fuck are you talking about? No one in this thread is anti-mainstream.
Halo is mainstream. Hating Halo is not being anti-mainstream. Stop being a whiney little baby because someone's opinion differs with yours. Also; posting one liners would be a lot easier to read than the wall of text approach. |
Hating Halo without playing it is anti-mainstream. Also if you read one of my posts I said:
:
|
I know you said that, but then you made a completely different impression.
Also; who is to say no one has played it? |
:
|
Oh ok. I thought you said you hadn't played it. I'm glad you make opinions for yourself unlike way too many people. Though Halo Wars is a completely different type of game play I can understand your detestation of the series to steer you away from this game.

Then again, Doom's was retarded too. |

halo got worse as it went on and to be honest, i really don't have high hopes for this game!! i'm not saying it's going to be shitty though! and i should really get my sexbox live back up and running so i can atleast get the demo :P

*When Maria died, that was the saddest moment of any videogame ever though for me. |

I mean the first game starts off with Marcus being in jail for insubordination for going off to save his father. The Locust are winning the war so even criminals are being freed to help out. Humanity is at risk. In the second game you find out more about the Locust that just came out of the ground from nowhere. In the secret facility place, that even the military apparently don't know much about, The Locust show up unexpectantly and it makes you wonder if they are related to the sires. Though by looking in the predictability book the story behind the Locust is prolly similar to that of Final Fantasy 7 Dirge of Cerberus. The Lambent add a nice twist to a predictable story and the Locust's Queen resemblance and her mentioning of Marcus's father leave you guessing. But darn when ever someone says the Gears story is better due to that stupid inserted sub plot I just want to bash my head in. That and Gears tries way too hard to make Marcus look like a tough guy. I'm all for being tough but when vehicles come crashing in front of me you wouldn't find me standing JUST out of range. I also was really into Halo's story until Halo 3. They give everything a way which made me sad. There was no more speculating to do. Though their still are some things to discover about ONI so I'll be looking forward to Halo 3: ODST. I mean Halo does follow the usual sci-fi story: Humankind is about to be wiped out, pull out the last resorts! Yay we're winning now! However I find the Spartans incredibly interesting. All these 6 year old kids are kidnapped by the military due to special genes they happen to have. Then these kids are put through physical training that would kill me. So as these kids grow up they know nothing of love or what a normal life even is. They are just taught how to fight wars all their life. As if that wasn't bad enough they have to go through this experiment which kills or paralyzes about half of them. All that training did nothing to save them. The paralyzed ones would be stuck in chairs the rest of their lives unable to hang with the only people they ever felt comfortable with. The end result was this ultimate fighting force of Spartans, but in present day their are only like four of them left. What will they do now that the war is over? Can they ever possibly fit in with the rest of humanity? I freakin love Halo's story: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13233687 |
