Larry Shapiro becomes president of Oddworld

According to "the cut scene":
:

Former Brash Chief Creative Office and CAA videogames agent Larry Shapiro has landed a new gig as president of Oddworld Inhabitants

I have to say I'm a bit surprised

OANST 11-11-2008 02:06 PM

Ummm....... Okey dokey. Not sure what to say there.

Jordan 11-11-2008 02:19 PM

That's quite some news. All I want to say is if he fucks with Oddworld he fucks with us. ;)

Oddsville 11-11-2008 03:22 PM

What happened with Lorne and Sherry?

Edit- Nevermind I guess I shoulda read the article first. He'd better do a damn good job! Sucks that Citizen Seige went under; looks like more years of just waiting..

Nate 11-11-2008 04:30 PM

:

It'll be a while until we find out exactly what Oddworld's up to now. But I do know it won't be the "Citizen Siege" animated movie that it was previously working on with Vanguard Entertainment. McKenna told me there were "creative differences" and the rights are reverting back to Oddworld.
He's making an assumption here. Back in April when I interviewed Lorne, he hinted that things weren't going well with Vanguard but he was still optimistic about the Citizen Seige as a project.

skillya_glowi 11-11-2008 05:32 PM

That was definitely...surprising, and feels a bit weird to me as I've always equated Lorne with everything that has to do with Oddworld. And I was quite looking forward to Citizen Siege, too, for lack of anything Oddworld-based. But I guess Lorne did what was best for the company, and it's good to know that they're not giving up.

Lacy Hemsmire 11-11-2008 05:52 PM

Eeep. Well I hope things go well. o_o <3 Good lucketh, Mister Larry. |D

lbyrd2 11-11-2008 08:26 PM

If he ruins oddworld i'm spamming his inbox:fuzmad:

Nate 11-11-2008 09:02 PM

Two things to remember people:

1) CEO (ie Sherry) outranks President
2) Lorne is still remaining in charge of the creative side of things

Reading between the lines, Larry left Brash now that the company is on the skids and has joined Oddworld to do pretty much what he did in the past - sell the brand to important people like studios and publishers.

Xavier 11-12-2008 12:33 AM

Like Nate said...

Anyway as long as Lorne stays creative director and sherry CEO I'm happy. They struggled hard enough in the past to keep their IP's so I guess we shouldn't worry this time.

abe619 11-12-2008 01:03 AM

i'll miss lorne and sherry , but that brings in some hope.
Let us wish he is not as lazy as lorne lanning.

They’re still the bigwigs.

This seems… interesting?

You have no idea what you are talking about, do you?

Wings of Fire 11-12-2008 03:47 AM

Oddworld on Steam, Jeff Braun working with Lanning on a new Oddworld game and now this, all in the space of a year? A coincidence? Methinks Oddworld are on there way back up.

Jordan 11-12-2008 06:56 AM

Oh I see. As long as we have Lorne and Sherry, I'm alright with it. Oddworld is back gaiz. :D

scipionyx 11-12-2008 07:29 AM

 "creative differences" ... what the heck...?
well... I'll keep my fingers crossed for Oddworld, though I'm a little sad about citigen siege, I was really looking forward to it *sigh* ^^

GlacierDragon 11-12-2008 11:13 AM

Another scrapped project. That's a real shame. I hope they don't give up on the Oddworld Movie.

:

Yay?

DarKo 11-12-2008 02:05 PM

careface ne1?

OddYouko 11-12-2008 04:05 PM

I really don't know what to think of this...
Oh well just gonna have to wait and see....though I hope they'll still make the OW movie too!

Oh fer crying out loud, peoples! TELL ME where in that article it says that Lorne and Sherry are not going to continue to try making Citizen Seige?

crazysteef 11-12-2008 05:58 PM

Now I'm really worried about the future of Oddworld (in more than one way)...even so, its nice to know that Lorne can now concentrate wholly on creating the Oddness we all love so much, and have some pressure taken off his back.

lbyrd2 11-13-2008 12:09 AM

this dosen't seem as bad as it first looked like

Let's be honest, though. It will never see the light of day. And that is not a bad thing. If they make more Oddworld games I wll be pleased. Otherwise....eh.

...of course it must see the light of day! both of them :flames:!
thank you for saving my happiness! *unstoppable joy* OMG xD

GlacierDragon 11-13-2008 09:57 AM

Yay, Citizen Seige isn't going to be forgotten about.

This 'new title in the Oddworld franchise' is the game we heard about earlyer in the year, I take it?

skillya_glowi 11-13-2008 06:17 PM

Well good : ) I hope they don't run into any more dramatic complications (although this seems inevitable...)

More dramatic complications? Shriek!!! I'm tired of dramatic complications! :fuzmad:Even so, its nice to know that despite everything that's happened to Oddworld, they're still working on Citizen Siege and the unknown Oddworld universe title.

lbyrd2 11-13-2008 08:25 PM

everythings going to be okay!!!

hooray!!!

Incognito 11-16-2008 11:54 AM

Hmmm, this seems like an interesting turn of events. But I'm glad that Lorne and Sherry are still there at the top. This'll probably give Lorne more time to flesh out all his creative demons.

atusiya@ 11-16-2008 11:39 PM

:fuzemb:Lorne alone.....

panuru 11-18-2008 02:31 AM

Real interesting news. And it's always great to hear news on Oddworld.

I'm actually kinda' glad that Vanguard isn't handling Citizen Siege... I don't know why, but "Shrek" + "Oddworld" never settled well in my stomach.

None the less, I look forward to whatever it becomes.

Go OWI!

Xavier 11-18-2008 04:37 AM

Actually I was more afraid of Vangard after hearing about space chimps, happily never after and vaillant.

Agreed.

It's no secret that I had a problem with this film from the first time I ever heard of it. I found the logo they used for it to be moronic and the idea to be dated. Especially, the idea of gas rising to such outrageous prices that they would need armed guards at the gas stations. There have been huge strides in alternative fuels in the last ten years so by the time this happened I find it highly unlikely that people would just lie down and pay these exorbitant fees. I understand that it's supposed to be topical. I just feel as if the topic has been done, couldn't be done better, and is out of date (partially. I do understand that there is more to it than the gas crisis).

However, I find Lorne's execution of the stories that he is trying to tell to be spot on, for the most part. He breathes life into the characters in ways that very few artists are capable. In SW, for instance, I hated the idea and appearance of the Clakkerz. I still do not think that they are one of his best creations but when I got the game I didn't mind them. They annoyed me but only in the way that they were supposed to annoy me.

Bottom line: I hope good things are to come from this company and I am pleased that CS will not get the opportunity to tarnish them in my mind.

Yes, I do. And where the heck did you come from? We haven't seen you for ages!

shaman 12-01-2008 05:01 AM

i am seriously optimistic about oddworld now, and with lorne realived from the pressure of handling a whole company. i think its gonna be easyer for him to dust off the creative immagination that we fell in love with :)

Tidus 12-01-2008 07:47 AM

I'm confused. I'm surprised with this news.. but I think Oddworld will go down, or at least not better than Lorne's time..

Sorry for my english :p

Xavier 12-01-2008 09:14 AM

I'm not sure you understood it, but Lorne is still the creative director...

Bullet Magnet 12-01-2008 12:24 PM

Now he doesn't have to deal with so much industry politics or administration.
