The Glass Asylym
What's the Glass Asylym?
|
A message board created by Sydney, the founder of the Oddworld Forums, for her and her friends to chat once they decided to leave the Oddworld Forums en masse.
If you’re so interested in the Oddworld Forums’ history, why don’t you read all the past threads properly instead of picking out key words and phrases and asking us about them? |
Used to be (or still is, I dunno, I'm effectively banned from all of them ^_^) a secret place for the elite of this forum where they gossip about members ect.
|
No. You’re thinking of The Glass Prison, my dear. Later renamed The Glass Farce.
|
We don't talk about the Glass Asylum...
|
Actually, we do talk about it, quite regularly.
We don't talk about The Mausoleum. |
Glass Asylum was an awesome message board. Sometimes it's good to re-start a community with just a few select people, even when the circumstances for the original splitting up of the community were very controversial. But we really did have something briliant going with the spirit of the formally united OWF, and I still think it could've evolved into something great.
But then again maybe it'd of simply died of it's own death in the end, 'cause the only thing that united us was friendship. And as we all know, internet friendships are all-too easily broken as people and thier lives change. After all, OWF still stands because it's a forum to talk about the activities of Oddworld Inhabitants. And they still do things from time to time, which gives everyone here something to talk about. TGA's fate was that it was shut down a few months, maybe even a year (I can't remember) after its creation because Sydney couldn't be bothered to look after it anymore. She said she'd rather shut it down then to give control of it to someone else, which made everyone angry. We didn't have anywhere to talk to each other anymore, so everyone who didn't keep in touch with each other by other means all lost contact. Hence the end of a sub community. :P Fortunately for me and a few others, MSN helped us stay in touch. I'm still friends with many people I met here on OWF who also fled to TGA, even after all these years. Part of the early OWF & TGA community still lives on. :) |

no, those who were edgy have left, except T-nex who I assume has calmed down a little since the ordeal. I think the thread that revealed TGP is in the stickied Classics thread still, can't remember

Just another chapter in the Internet piss-fights.

As far as I remember it was The Mausoleum, then The Glass Prison then The Glass farce :p... And yes... ahem.. <.< Please don't go check my um... outrageous blurts... |
I actually re-read that entire topic a few hours ago, in hind sight it was a stupid thing of most of us to get THAT mad about it I guess. Still, some people had their feelings hurt.
|
Well, having read the classics thread multiple times, it seems like a pivotal point of OWF history. Sydney, a male admin who wanted a vagina (or something like that) was evil. He/She banned people left and right with no warnings. So our friendly neighborhood Alcar saved the day and revoked her admin status. Then gave it back because a large percentage of the forums started whining. Sydney got mad and brought a bunch of people to stampede out of the forums, then dance in their own little grassy meadow. Then Sydney burnt it to the ground.
|
Does the topic creator do nothing but read old threads?
|
I read the thread where Syd returned and decalred himself queen of owf or something. Best thing I've read in days. Really quite hilarious.
Yes, I too advocate the no-looking-back policy, for the sake of my 3,000 ridiculous posts never being found. |

All of that Forum Schism stuff feels like it happened a century ago, I mean it was a long time ago and I was only here for like a year and much younger for that matter when everything went down (2002?). I really don't think people could still be bitter about it by this point though...
|
I love you, Al.
|
Here's an artists impression of what happened. ;)
Yes I know it sucks, but I'm bad at paint. |
Why the fuck is Sydney Palkia?
And you missed out Pilot. EDIT: That is not an aggressive 'fuck', that is an amused 'fuck'. *Resists urge to make inappropriate joke* |
I had no idea what to potray her as, besides it was a joke, chill out.
If I've upset anyway, pm me and I'll take it down. Oh, and I wasn't there, I just made from what I knew. I never said it was funny, I was just bored. *runs into a corner and hides* |
I remember the upproar that caused this forum to split and TGA was created. Sydney was furious about something or someone here. But once TGA shut down I never bothered returning. Though because of Dark Hood I decided to poke my head in and see what's going on. Hello. =)

Done and done. |
Wow, that stuff happened forever ago. :fuzblink:
Pilot's still an idiot though. :p And Mudling's pic made me LOLZ. Abe Babe... |
OMG Abe Babe, when I first say your post I thought you'd come to unleash your wrath on me for dishonouring you name or something.
Glad to see that someone liked it however. It took me for ever to find out which was the final fantasy character you were obsessed with, I'm not a big fan of FF myself, so I hope I got the right one. Oh, and I have no idea in pilot's part in all of this, hence he is not depicted in the picture. |
Hi Abe Babe!
I believe I joined around the end of the resulting flamewars but since I never left Fancorner if I could help it I was pretty much oblivious to the whole thing at the time. I can't really judge whether Alcar the Usurper was right to kick her or not (though for the sake of comedy it's more entertaining to see Alcar as an evil tyrant). Either way a lot of people at the time chose to leave, and a lot thought of leaving, possibly just for the sake of concience. It really was sad; OWF lost a lot of good members because of that. Gotta ask Dark Hood, why did no one think of creating another forum to replace the Glass Asylum without Sydney when she dropped you all? |
Middlesboogie and a few others did, it was called The Stoneage Respority or something like that (I can't quite remember). Then it's name changed to something else. Then it became Teh Shed. It was a success on her part - Many members stayed for a time, then it kind of went its own way and after a while it became very, very quiet. Not many people knew about it at the time of its creation (there wasn't any way of telling them as TGA had been nuked by the time it was created), or they'd lost interest in foruming after the crap with OWF and TGA, so not many people joined.
Maybe I can ask her to tell me more about it later. EDIT: Oh, and Welcome Back, Abe Babe. :P |
:
For those of you who don't know, signing your posts is idiotic and I can only assume narcissistic. It already says your name. We know who you are. Do you think signing it adds extra weight to the statement? It doesn't. It just makes me irritable. |
Alcar...
|
AAAHHHHHH! STOP IT!
oanst..... |
Now you've done it, OANST.
Bullet Magnet... |
Oh right, I remembered wrong. :P The Stoneage Respority and Teh Shed were set up by friends of Rettick and Middlesboogie for the sake of having a forum to hang out in, but it just turned out that a few people from TGA went there after TGA blew up.
Dark Hood... |
Zorro.......

When I first read Abe babe's post, I thought it was some sort of joke on Alcar's part, and that the post singing was meant to give him away.
I've never seen anyone else sign there post (except for here of course), which is explanatory, because, as OANST said, post signing is kinda dumb. Anyways, back on toppic, that explains alot DH, I still don't get pilot's plot in all of this. And there was another creator of OWF wasn't there? Along said with Sydney, or maybe it's just me. |
Hehe, I used to sign my posts with "-DH" as some sort of weird trademark or so. 'Course, there wasn't much point. So I stopped.
I thought Abe Babe had returned, but I didn't really think much about it. Eh. What happened to her anyway? Back on topic. As far as I remember though, Pilot didn't really have much of a role. I think he was the one who delivered the message about Sydney's booting, but it's a bit of a mystery. |
